Pink Tutu Sparkles in Gloucester - A Tutu-ifically Fab Trip!

Hey my darling tutu-lovers! Pink Tutu Sparkles here, ready to sprinkle some glitter and pink on your Saturday with my latest adventure in the glorious city of Gloucester!

It's me, Alex, your favourite pink tutu-wearing drag queen and today I'm feeling a little extra twirly after a wonderful weekend in Gloucester. It's been a while since I travelled by train - I just love that feeling of adventure, of leaving everything behind, just me, my pink tutu and a few well-chosen sequins! I decided to ditch the car for this trip because frankly, a train journey allows you to put on a little show. It wasn't long before people on the platform were giving me approving nods - who wouldn't want to watch a pink tutu pirouette while sipping their latte, eh?

A Love Letter to Gloucester

This was actually my first time in Gloucester, and I must say, I'm utterly smitten! It’s a charming little city with beautiful historical architecture and an atmosphere that’s somehow both bustling and relaxing. I think it’s the blend of history and modern, cobbled streets with chic little boutiques, you get that perfect balance of tradition and trend. I knew I’d found a new favourite location within an hour of my arrival - you really feel that magic happen when a place embraces both the modern and the traditional, and the people of Gloucester absolutely get it.

My first port of call, of course, was a ballet class! Now, I know what you’re thinking, “Pink Tutu, why wouldn’t you be taking a class? Isn’t that your day job?” Well, my love, sometimes I just fancy some professional tutus and some really fancy moves! It’s always lovely to join classes where there are experienced professionals who are patient enough to teach you something new, or something old that you'd forgotten you loved, and there was a simply stunning ballet school, tucked away in the heart of the city. It was a gorgeous old building - think exposed brickwork and beautiful chandeliers! Imagine that setting and add to it a gorgeous, sleek floor for dancing - my love of tutus and ballet couldn’t be any happier! I met a fabulous group of dancers – I’d definitely recommend Gloucester to anyone looking for some new pirouettes!

From Ballet to Bubbles

After my class, I couldn't resist indulging in a spot of afternoon tea. I'm a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to scones and clotted cream (there's always room for a bit more, right? ), and this one certainly lived up to expectations. We had delicious finger sandwiches, fluffy cakes, and – the highlight for me – freshly baked scones served with warm, clotted cream and jam. You can't be a drag queen without embracing the luxury and delight of good, homemade, fresh food! And trust me, that fresh, bubbly Prosecco was certainly part of that luxury! I know I have mentioned in other blog posts the sheer excitement of the fresh champagne from the bar on a Friday afternoon, but here it was, again, so fresh and full of sunshine on a rainy afternoon. It felt like we were taking a sip of sunshine, and with the glorious setting we were in - beautiful, cobbled courtyard, perfect afternoon tea - what’s not to love?

Glittering under the Gloucester Sky

Saturday night, as a drag artist, is always going to be a big event, but to perform in Gloucester was just magic! Now, let's talk about my show - oh my goodness! You know I always give my best, and my glitter game was extra strong! You know me – Pink Tutu Sparkles. When in a beautiful, elegant, stylish, new town – you have to show those gorgeous locals some fantastic, glam outfits. That means big bows and fabulous fluffy feathers in my show stopping tutu - always a fan of something pink. It’s so much fun seeing how everyone’s reaction – that initial look of, “Oh wow,” and then the sparkle of delight that always takes over, it’s so much fun! Everyone, from children to their mums, it was wonderful and fun to perform in a space that had such a sense of humour! They say every night should be an evening of entertainment, but I certainly did deliver in Gloucester!

The audience was so warm and welcoming, the kind that loves a bit of glitz, and I really felt the energy of the whole room. It felt amazing to get up on that stage and share my joy and my love for all things pink! There's something magical about drag - how it connects with people on a deeper level, making them laugh, cry, and most importantly, celebrate their inner sparkle. Every performance is so special – because you are part of that performance, my dears, you’re not just an audience, you are a part of it, and I want to thank everyone who came and shared a magical Saturday night with me.
