Scarborough Calling!

Pink Tutu Sparkles here! It's me, your favourite, pinkest, tutu-iest friend.

It's officially day 6590 of me wearing a pink tutu - you know how I love my tutus! I've been doing this for years, and never thought I'd still be twirling in pink tutus on the daily, but it's my life's calling. Pink and tutus - that's my mantra.

Today's blog, though? Scarborough baby! It's all about seaside fun, twirling under the pier and oh yes, glitter bombs galore.

As you know, I love a good trip. It’s just me, my luggage and a tutu. If you follow me on my pink travels on Instagram or Tiktok (or Twitter or Facebook!) you know that I often travel by train or horseback. (The latter takes a little more time, but honestly, so glamorous!) I adore trains.

Travelling by train allows me to meet all sorts of fun people, and there's no better place for a little catwalk down the carriage! Oh and I can't forget, my good ol' faithful tutu - a pink tutu is never far away, she's always on my lap.

And the magic? This trip wasn't just for fun, oh no, I had a performance. You see, I’m not just a girl with a love of tutus and glitter - I am also a Drag Queen. You probably figured that one out, seeing my outfits, but that’s just a part of my story, you see! I have always adored the arts, the dance, the magic, and being a Drag Queen? Well, that’s a part of my passion for putting on a good show and entertaining the masses.

Before you get your head full of drag queens with long lashes, big wigs and that stereotypical show-stopping, dramatic and theatrical approach, imagine this; I love pink, love ballet, love a bit of bling!

How does my show begin? Well, you’ve probably gathered by now, in a tutu, my tutu. Sometimes a bright pink tutu, other times I am channeling a more classical vibe with a pale pink or light blue tutu, but it always fits and is always with me! There I am, in the spotlight, it's a magical world of dancing, sparkly costumes, and oh so much joy. The music blasts as my favourite pink sparkly heels come into play, and my stage act becomes a show! My dance is a combination of balletic elegance and a playful nod to street-style dance. The tutu does it's own bit of magical twirling, and that’s the story of my stage! I’ve found, it truly speaks to so many people - a fun night, and for a few minutes, you don’t have to worry about anything else but enjoying the joy, and the entertainment.

You won't believe this but I’m from a small village in Derbyshire. If you know Derbyshire you know it’s not known for tutus and sequins, no sir. It’s an old fashioned area that loves traditionalism - it’s full of gorgeous green valleys and stunning scenery - if you need a quiet getaway that is for you, I suggest a trip there if you get a chance! But not me. Not a fan of beige. It’s too boring, too normal for this tutu-wearing-queen, this Pink Tutu Sparkles, here!

If you met me during the day you might be surprised. I am a Scientist by day, my own scientific fairytale, you know? That means you won’t find me in a tutu all day - though I often find a way to wear something pink to brighten up the laboratory. I am passionate about science - I actually work in a lab testing textiles. In a funny turn of fate I use my pink-tutu expertise for my lab work! (But let’s not forget about pink dye!).

Before all this happened, my whole life changed with a tutu. And this is all my mum’s fault - honestly, bless her, she's always wanted a pink tutu-wearing daughter, and guess what, she got one, although in the end, it became her drag-queen-wearing daughter! It was the year I was studying science. Yes, science! You know, the most normal of degrees...but at that time, the uni's student association was having a fundraising event for a good cause. They wanted students to wear tutus to support the charity event.

And so, there I was, all dressed up and ready to make a little contribution. One thing led to another, as life does. We had so much fun! You know how it is at university - sometimes you feel you need to have the right kind of attire and a really big smile for a night out - I found the confidence for the night, wearing a tutu, a big smile and well, a fabulous pink tutu and my new found confidence.

It took me until that day to truly embrace my inner tutu, so it’s a good thing I wear one every day! But don’t worry, I’m a full-time drag queen now - although in real life I go by Alex, you all know me as Pink Tutu Sparkles! You won’t catch me without it on a good night out, let’s just say I think we can all have a pink-tutu-fabulous time!

And of course, one thing has been my guiding light and it has all been for the tutu - the dream is this, Everyone will wear a pink tutu one day. The big Pink Tutu Revolution! My life goal? Simple. My little, personal contribution to making the world a little brighter, and more fabulous, a little sparkly, a little bit more… pink. I’m just trying to do my part - to spread a little happiness, one pink tutu at a time. Because after all, don’t we all deserve a little more fabulous in our lives?

Now about this trip!

A gorgeous seafront city, with plenty of cafes, arcades and beautiful parks to explore. Scarborough! It was calling my name with the charm and energy that's almost hard to resist. If you don’t know it, you need to. You get the charm of a beautiful coastal location mixed with big-city energy! There’s plenty to do and, well, it’s lovely - a place to feel at peace and escape everything. It’s an area I truly recommend! I can feel myself relax as soon as I step onto the train from Sheffield Station. And when I step off in Scarborough, it is just…peaceful.

You all know that one of my biggest loves in life, other than tutus, is ballet. And when I found out Scarborough’s got the beautiful Stephen Joseph Theatre it's clear why I was here - not only to do my own little gig on the pier but to see a proper ballet. The most magical, sparkly, perfect thing about it? The theatre's got these gorgeous, antique-looking red chairs! Honestly, perfect for someone who loves glamour and glitter, they just fit in perfectly with my pink tutu and me.

And let's not forget - it was also an opportunity to explore the Scarborough Open Air Theatre too, a stunning open space with so much history.

If you love an English city, then this has it all: Beautiful parks to explore and lovely walks! It was a lovely treat to visit the nearby botanical gardens, a real joy to find beautiful plants in full bloom - the scent of them really is like a perfume you can’t resist - truly magical. Oh and a pink tutu, what a combo! I think that’s a day perfectly balanced, no?

On this visit, the locals were truly wonderful, with everyone so lovely, always friendly and smiling, as though we're part of the same, beautiful, glamorous party, which made for a fun and welcoming experience. Everyone here loves a pink tutu! I know, I am on my mission. But there is something about this area.

Honestly, when it comes to visiting, this place is right up there with one of my favourite locations. And why? *It's like walking through a ballet set - the seafront, the beautiful colours of the flowers in full bloom. This place makes me dance just a bit more, wear a tutu with a big, sparkly smile and, oh yes, it does a lot for my pink-tutu collection - in all the best ways! * I promise you won’t be bored here.

If you haven't been - add it to your bucket list, because it’s really got something for everyone. It was such a joy and so fun - and my time here was just simply magnificent - even with the seagull incident. You see, sometimes when I am travelling, well, the locals think I am quite interesting!

So, yes. This place has left me feeling truly pink, happy, sparkly and oh so inspired for a dance or two.

That’s a good note to finish on. Stay safe and keep smiling.

Catch you tomorrow for my next Pink Tutu Adventure!

Until next time,

Pink Tutu Sparkles!
