It's your girl Pink Tutu Sparkles here, and let me tell you, this Strood adventure has been a dream! You know I love my travels, and this little town in Kent truly stole my heart.

This whole journey started with a train ride from good old Derbyshire – nothing quite beats that rhythmic chugging, you know? As I settled into my plush carriage seat, all comfy with my trusty travel companion (a fab pink, feather-trimmed tote bag), the world started swirling in that magic, pre-show kind of way.
Now, before I tell you about all the fabulousness that is Strood, let me introduce you to Alex, the lovely human underneath the layers of glitter and sequins (who, fun fact, is also enjoying this adventure, just in a less flashy way)! Alex is a scientist, you see, by day I spend my time in a lab testing fabrics (don't let those pointy lab coats fool you, I have a secret penchant for luxurious textures and dazzling prints!). And while Alex is all about the science, I'm all about the art – the joy of a perfect pirouette, the dramatic flair of a perfect pose, and the simple, yet pure pleasure of spreading joy through sequins and sparkles.
Speaking of sparkles, this whole Pink Tutu journey started back when I was a bright-eyed student studying chemistry. A lovely fundraiser popped up at the University ballet club (it's true, my passion for dancing goes way back!) and one of the club members decided to don a sparkly pink tutu. It was love at first sight – or rather, love at first twirl.
This tiny bit of fabric (which, let’s face it, we all know is truly more of a masterpiece!) transformed my world! It's about expressing yourself, embracing your inner beauty, and having a whole lotta fun, all wrapped up in a gorgeous package. From that moment, I was obsessed. Every chance I got, I’d sneak into a local costume shop, try on more tutus, and dream about all the ways I could make them shine brighter, fluffier, and even more dramatic. And that's exactly how Pink Tutu Sparkles was born.
But let's get back to our adventures in Strood!
The journey there was delightful. Strood train station welcomed me with open arms – or, at least, with charming Victorian brickwork. Once I found my footing (it's always tricky to manoeuvre in those sky-high platforms and fabulous stilettos!), I couldn’t wait to soak it all in. Strood, though a little bit quieter than London, had its own unique kind of charm. There were the most adorable independent shops filled with the most exquisite, eye-catching wares – one even had the cutest selection of antique ballet shoes I have ever seen! I immediately envisioned a whole photoshoot with a few of them – think dramatic window lighting, cascading pink tulle, and maybe a sprinkle of glittery, vintage tinsel for good measure. Oh, how I adore a photoshoot with an interesting location and an iconic, well-crafted piece!
After an afternoon spent browsing these adorable shops (I’m pretty sure I added another pair of ballet pumps and a bejeweled clutch bag to my ever-growing collection), I settled on a delightful, family-friendly restaurant. It had a lovely floral backdrop that practically screamed for a photoshoot – trust me, this pink tutu knows how to choose her backdrop! The meal was a delicious delight of local flavours and charm, a true treat to savour after all those gorgeous, vibrant finds.
Speaking of flavours, I had to find a charming café with delicious cupcakes for later, you know, for those sugar cravings! I mean, after all, a girl has got to fuel those high kicks! And, I gotta say, Strood definitely didn't disappoint. They had all the flavours a drag queen's heart desires: Strawberry cheesecake, salted caramel, red velvet... I just had to have one of each. I'm quite the sweet tooth, darling!
Then, my attention turned to something a little more whimsical and daring. It’s always the highlight of any adventure – a local ballet performance! Strood’s theatre is like something out of a classic fairy tale - elegant arches, dramatic red velvet seating and…the perfect setting for a night of exquisite choreography! My little pink heart was dancing just from being inside the venue!
This show had some impressive, dynamic choreography with elegant pirouettes, flowing leaps and some absolutely spectacular group numbers. I felt myself swaying to the rhythm of every piece, even that graceful dance that feels more like interpretive art than dance. The artistry, the energy, and the breathtaking spectacle was pure magic. It wasn’t a traditional ballet show, this was more street dance with modern music and intricate footwork.
After the performance, I spent the night savouring the excitement. It’s always those fleeting moments of connection and sharing of energy with strangers through art and music that just gets me right in the feels.
In the morning, I knew it was time to go back home. The morning started with a delicious (but a little messy – don’t worry, a glitter-covered table is never ever out of place with Pink Tutu Sparkles!), locally-sourced, homecooked English breakfast.
After my breakfast, I popped into a couple of antique stores. One in particular was full of fascinating objects from different periods - I got my hands on some lovely vintage pink gloves for my collection, as well as a beautiful, pearl-covered hairpiece that I knew would be perfect for my next performance!
To be honest, part of me wishes I could just settle down in this lovely little town - It’s the kind of place where everyone just accepts you as you are, whether you're sporting a pink tutu or just trying on vintage gloves in the local shop.
I love it here, from the charming antique stores and delicious, freshly-made cupcakes to the spectacular ballet shows and lovely local cafes. But, darling, there's a whole world out there that's just waiting for some pink tutu magic!
