Darling Divas and Fabulous Fellas! It’s Pink Tutu Sparkles, back for your daily dose of glitz, glam, and of course, tutus! Today's blog is extra special because guess what?! Your Tutu Queen is on the road again! That's right, a little train journey to Walkden to sprinkle some pink sparkle on this charming corner of Greater Manchester.
It all began with a frantic flutter in my tulle, a twinkle in my eye, and a message from the lovely ladies at the Walkden Women's Institute, asking if I would be so kind as to bless them with my presence and some tutu-licious entertainment. How could I possibly say no? A chance to bring joy and some much-needed fabulousness to a new community? Consider it done, my dears!
Now, let's be real, any excuse to hop on a train with a big ol' pink tulle bag stuffed full of sequins and feathers is a good excuse! My heart beats a little faster at the sight of steam engines and the promise of a countryside adventure. There's something magical about seeing the world through the window of a carriage, and trust me, a big, sparkly tutu on the platform gets more than a few smiles. I'm a one-woman parade, darling!
Speaking of sparkly, let's talk about the outfit. Now, this is the real challenge, right? It’s got to be practical for travelling, tutu-ific for performing, and totally fabulous for Walkden. I went with my classic bubblegum pink (my favourite, naturally!), and a little touch of turquoise, for a splash of the sea. It's got enough sparkle to blind a small village, but the best bit is the detachable train that turns me into a pink cloud when I sashay out on stage! (Spoiler alert, it was an absolute hit, darling! The applause was like angels whispering my name, or maybe just the local pigeon.)
The performance was at a quaint village hall, but I tell you, these ladies could rock a night club! I led them through some ballet basics (because every good diva has a bit of plié in her step) and then I threw down some shimmy-shaking dance moves. Let me tell you, there is nothing quite like the energy of a room full of women giggling and dancing in their very own pink tutus. My heart nearly burst with joy, my dears.
Now, about this Walkden business. I know what you're thinking - it sounds a bit, shall we say, “quaint”? Well, hold on to your tiaras! Walkden is a hidden gem! Think picturesque lanes, charming cafes, and a community spirit that would warm even the coldest of hearts. I couldn’t resist exploring the streets a bit after the performance. You know how it is - a bit of research for my next blog post (hint: pink tutus are universal!) and a bit of retail therapy - who can resist a lovely antique shop in Walkden?! It's just the sort of place that inspires a pink tutu wearer, let me tell you.
I even got the opportunity to catch a glimpse of *the fabulous and the phenomenal *Walkden Town Hall. It's not just a town hall; it's a bit of local history in all its glorious Art Deco splendor. Seriously, darlings, they must have brought in every colour imaginable, but guess who stood out the most? You guessed it! A pink tutu with a smile that could rival the sun.
And for you lovers of the silver screen, my dears, did you know that the lovely folks in Walkden used to have their very own picture palace? A real, genuine cinema. Gone, but certainly not forgotten, that's for sure. Imagine, darling, sitting there in a gorgeous, flowing, bubblegum pink tutu, enjoying a good film - that's the life!
As my train journey back home started, my head buzzed with excitement. It’s these little escapes, these trips to unknown towns and communities that really make life so wonderful.
