Hey, lovelies! It's your girl, Pink Tutu Sparkles, back again with another dazzling post! I'm feeling so fabulous after another whirlwind trip, and let me tell you, this one was extra special. Darwen, you are truly a hidden gem!
First of all, let's talk about getting there. Of course, being the glamorous creature that I am, I decided to take the train. Nothing beats that leisurely journey, a glass of sparkling wine, and the thrill of arriving at the station with my fabulous ensemble! I can't go anywhere without at least one fabulous pink tutu, so this trip was no exception! My darling pink tulle number shimmered under the station lights like a sugar plum fairy's dream, just wait til you see the pictures!
As I stepped off the train, I was greeted with the most picturesque setting – the kind of quaint, cobbled streets you only dream about. And you wouldn't believe it, but there was this gorgeous, little vintage shop with the most adorable collection of bonnets! I practically ran in, it was like stepping back in time! Naturally, I couldn't resist adding a new headpiece to my collection – it was just screaming for me to take it home and adorn my already fabulous crown.
Darwen welcomed me with open arms, the local people were just darling, and let me tell you, there was an undeniable energy in the air – a kind of “Let’s put on a show and get everyone twirling” kind of vibe, perfect for your girl. My destination was a charming theatre with beautiful Georgian architecture. Oh my word, it took my breath away! They call it The Darwen Library Theatre, and it was the most delightful venue I've visited in ages!
This particular theatre had a wonderful history, just like the little vintage bonnet shop. They’ve been putting on shows for decades. There was something truly special about performing in a place with so much heart and soul, and of course, I had the most amazing time dancing the night away, twirling under those gorgeous chandeliers! The locals loved the whole Pink Tutu Sparkles vibe, they even joined in with a few moves! Can you imagine?
Between my performance and a little impromptu shop visit (did I mention I found the most divine ballet slippers – pink, of course – with beautiful embellishments? Oh, the things we drag queens do for our love of all things fabulous!), I managed to squeeze in a quick visit to the Darwen Market Hall. It’s not all about the glamorous glitz you know, there’s a little bit of down to earthness about me! I love finding those hidden gems – especially if they have a fresh, hand-crafted vibe.
I was just mesmerized by all the little stalls, each bursting with creativity and charm! I bought a beautiful handmade, locally made lavender satchel. Oh, it was gorgeous! They even offered me a delicious warm apple turnover – heaven! They truly have the kindest hearts, the people of Darwen!
And it wouldn’t be a trip to a new location without a little taste of local cuisine! So, for dinner, I ventured to this cosy, little pub called The Railway Inn – it was the perfect spot to unwind after a long day. I’m sure they're surprised at their pub being described as ‘cosy’ in my blog but this pub has a real sense of charm. Their staff were absolutely lovely.
One of the lovely ladies who works in the kitchen even made me this gorgeous salad – the freshest lettuce and greens, and this beautiful vinaigrette – all sprinkled with sparkling edible flowers! A real pink tutu twist to a pub classic! Now, they call it a Railway Inn for a reason! You can imagine that I wasn’t far from a train station, so I opted for the local train line again to head back. That journey was actually something truly special, so it wouldn’t be a Pink Tutu Sparkles blog without the added details…
We left the station right as the sun started to set. The skies were turning all shades of dusky pink, and I'm not lying when I say the whole world felt like it was covered in shimmering tulle. Oh, my word! It truly was magical.
Speaking of magic, my friends! Darwen has stolen my heart with its charm and friendly atmosphere! I cannot recommend this beautiful little town enough. If you're looking for a charming getaway, look no further. It has a kind heart and so much heart!
