Oh, the journey! I was positively bouncing in my pink train carriage seat, dreaming of all the lovely ladies I’d meet in this vibrant North-Eastern gem. This city is buzzing with life and creativity – perfect for a tutu-tastic adventure. You know me, I can’t resist a bit of travel – and let’s be honest, anything's better than staring at petri dishes all day in the lab. The thrill of the journey and the sparkle of the stage, it's just so much fun. Besides, a pink tutu needs to be seen!
Now, I’m no stranger to the North. You see, dear readers, this little Derbyshire girl knows her way around a northern fayre! From Yorkshire's grand sheep markets to Newcastle’s electric nightlife, I’ve sashayed my way through it all. And of course, I can’t forget those glorious trips to the seaside! Salty air and cotton candy - what more could a tutu ask for?
But back to Gateshead, my lovely lot. It's like a stage set waiting for a queen! This weekend's been all about exploring the architectural delights of the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. My fellow theatre-goers will be thrilled to hear there are absolutely phenomenal art exhibitions on display - I almost went pink with delight! I have to confess, I'm not always the most refined attendee, I like to add a bit of extra sparkle to the exhibitions… a well-placed, twirling pink tutu here, a flamboyant flourish in front of a sculpture there… it all adds to the excitement. Let's just say, the staff definitely enjoyed my energetic presence!
Speaking of stages, the Gate Theatre’s absolutely gorgeous - oh, to perform in such a beautiful space! I've got a special talent for turning any stage into my own personal catwalk. And let's be honest, darling, nothing beats performing in front of a gaggle of giddy gigglers - that’s how I keep those feathers flying!
One of my favourite places I found this weekend was The Biscuit Factory, full of unique crafts, trinkets, and handmade treasures. Now, who knew Gateshead was a hub for bespoke artisans? And let's face it, any place with handmade creations just begs to have a touch of pink tutu magic sprinkled around. I've got my eyes on a few sparkly jewellery pieces, perfect for making those "ooh la la" statements on stage! Who needs to go all the way to Paris to find some fabulous flair?
No trip is complete without indulging in some culinary delights, right? I took a trip into the centre of Gateshead and found this hidden gem – a vintage tea room bursting with delightful delights. From perfectly brewed Earl Grey to finger sandwiches so divine, it was positively pinktastic! I felt like I was stepping back into time, with elegant floral china and dainty cakes… It was all so incredibly civilised! And guess who added a touch of sparkle? That’s right! I put on my very finest tutu and sashayed my way into the afternoon, twirling a perfect pirouette alongside the lovely ladies over their teacups.
This visit has been an absolute triumph, from those fabulous performance stages to the friendly faces of Gateshead – it’s been a treat from start to finish. This city is bursting with vibrant energy and infectious smiles. You can’t help but fall in love with this bustling town, it’s a breath of fresh air, so to speak!
