Tutu Queen Takes Manhattan! #7539

Oh my darlings! It’s your favourite Tutu Queen here, back with another scintillating, sparkling adventure from the world of pink tulle and glittery glamour. Today, I’m positively quivering with excitement, because I’m sharing my whirlwind trip to the Big Apple, New York City!

It’s been a dream of mine to take my dazzlingly pink self to the city that never sleeps. I just knew, with its buzzing atmosphere, its endless energy, its stunning architecture and iconic Broadway shows, it would be the perfect stage for a tutu queen like me!

But first, let’s rewind a little

As you all know, this girl's got a penchant for pink. You could even say I'm a little
obsessed with it! Remember my pink tulle dress at that village fĂȘte last month? It had more sequins than a disco ball! But pink's just the tip of the iceberg, honey. My absolute passion? Well, you know it! Tutu's, darling! Fluffy, bouncy, pirouette-worthy tutus. Who knew my love of all things sparkly and pink could lead to a career in drag, right?

As you know, my life as Pink Tutu Sparkles began in a Derbyshire lab. You’d find me surrounded by microscopes and beakers, analysing fabrics like a scientific fashion detective! Little did those stuffy lab coats know, the heart of a drag queen beat within me, just waiting for a little “oomph” to take it to the next level!

That "oomph" came during my university days. The uni ballet club was holding a fundraiser, and they needed a bit of
flair. So I donned a tutu for the first time, and that was it. I was hooked!

Remember, darlings, life is a cabaret! Don’t be afraid to experiment, be brave, try new things, and embrace your inner fabulous! Because, let’s face it, life is too short for boring outfits, and there’s no greater feeling than wearing a tutu, strutting your stuff, and knowing you’re the star of your own show!

Now, back to Manhattan!

I took the train, obviously! It’s the perfect mode of transportation for a glamorous queen like me. My fluffy pink tulle outfit felt so elegant against the backdrop of those classic plush carriage interiors. Plus, I met some fab fellow travellers, a group of aspiring actresses who were heading to Broadway!

As soon as we rolled into Grand Central Station, the city felt like a living, breathing fairytale. We took a taxi up to my dazzling hotel room – a luxurious haven of pink silk sheets, a sparkly dressing table, and an incredible view of the city.

The very first thing I did after checking in was, of course, find the nearest store selling tutus! And boy oh boy, were the tutus in New York something special! We're talking feathers, sequins, a rainbow of colours - it was tutu-topia!

I ended up purchasing the most exquisite, vibrant hot pink tulle skirt! It was a statement piece that perfectly encapsulated the joy and energy of New York. It’s just the type of thing that I want everyone to try - everyone can wear a pink tutu! And trust me, honey, you'll be surprised how liberating and fun it feels!

Then came the time for me to work my magic on New York! I secured a spot in a charming cabaret venue in the Village. I performed my favourite numbers: a whimsical dance to “The Pink Panther”, a sassy cabaret performance of "Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend" (with a lot of extra twirling, of course), and ended with a showstopper: a dazzling interpretation of “Barbie Girl” with an actual pink Barbie corvette I’d found on Craigslist. The crowd absolutely loved it, they cheered and shouted “Tutu Queen, Tutu Queen!” until my heart almost popped. It was a dream come true.

But it wasn't all just about glitter and sequins, darlings. I made it a point to soak in the city's rich cultural atmosphere.

And how do you get a Tutu Queen from Derbyshire to a ballet performance in NYC? Why, by horse-drawn carriage, of course!

My fabulous friend, Fiona, found me a vintage carriage drawn by a majestic pair of white steeds. I mean, you can’t visit New York City without taking a carriage ride, can you? We cruised around Central Park, basking in the warm New York evening. And let me tell you, that tutu of mine definitely stole the show, even among the city’s stylish inhabitants!

That night, we headed to Lincoln Center to watch the Ballet. It was like being transported into a world of graceful leaps, stunning costumes and pure artistry. It was so inspiring, and it made me think about the importance of discipline, passion and expression. Those ballet dancers had this incredible drive to tell their story through movement and emotion, just like we drag queens.

But for me, it wasn’t just about watching, it was about learning! I knew I had to explore this world for myself! I found the most beautiful, intimate ballet school hidden in a side street near Times Square. My favourite thing about the ballet school was that it didn’t matter what level you were at - the teachers treated every student like they were a prima ballerina! So there I was, tutu queen in training, taking classes among real ballet dancers. It was such a rush!

To see a tutu queen try a “pirouette en dehors” or a "chassĂ©" is one thing; to see a tutu queen attempt these moves while balancing precariously on pointe is another thing entirely. Trust me, darling, it was truly spectacular.

Even though my dancing skills needed a little polishing, everyone there was so supportive, it felt like being part of a special club. There's nothing quite like that feeling of being surrounded by people who are passionate about their art and sharing their knowledge. It was definitely the highlight of my New York experience!

So, after a week of pink twirling, breathtaking dance classes and breathtaking city views, it was time for this tutu queen to make her way back to Derbyshire, carrying with me the memories of my enchanting New York escapade.

It was the trip of a lifetime!

You’ve seen New York with a tutu queen’s eyes!

Remember, darlings, embrace the vibrant beauty of life, just like I embraced the beauty of New York City. Embrace your passion, and most importantly, never be afraid to twirl!

See you next time, my dearest Tutu Queens. And as always, keep twirling!

*Yours, Pink Tutu Sparkles *
