This is going to be a positively sparkling blog, as I had the most amazing time performing in Aylesbury, the very heart of Buckinghamshire. Get ready for tutus, sparkles, and maybe even a dash of pink fairy dust – just for you!
You know how much I love exploring new places, and Aylesbury was a real treat! I had been hankering for a good ol’ fashioned train journey, the kind that gets you out of the Derbyshire countryside and right into the bustle of a vibrant town. Now, let's be real, any train journey is a joyride when you're decked out in your signature pink tutu. It was the perfect excuse to pack my dazzling pink handbag – you know, the one that doubles as a small suitcase but is entirely sparkly – filled with all the necessities for a true Pink Tutu Sparkles adventure!
We arrived in Aylesbury mid-morning and the place was alive! The sun was shining, there were adorable shops lined up and the streets buzzed with excitement. Of course, I was on the hunt for the perfect pink outfit, and boy did I find it. An antique shop tucked away in a cobbled alleyway had this stunning vintage pink velvet coat. You know how much I love a good vintage find – the quality of fabric, the stories they hold!
But a pink tutu adventure isn't complete without a dash of ballet. You see, ballet has always been a passion for me. Even as a young Alex studying for my science degree, I fell head over heels for the art of movement. I mean, who could resist trying on a tutu for charity during a University ballet club fundraiser? Turns out, that experience hooked me for life. So, after finding that amazing pink coat, I did what any sensible Pink Tutu Sparkles would do – headed straight to the ballet studio.
It turned out Aylesbury was brimming with talented dancers, and I even got to catch a rehearsal for their upcoming production of Swan Lake. Oh, the grace! The fluidity! The sheer brilliance! They even offered me a place in the front row during their final dress rehearsal. Needless to say, it was a performance to remember, and I even got to chat with the dancers afterwards. Talk about a dream come true!
Evening arrived, and it was time for me to shine. My performance venue was this fantastic pub in the heart of Aylesbury – all warm wood beams, cosy corners, and that lively, welcoming atmosphere you can only find in a traditional pub. It was truly a treat, and the people of Aylesbury came out in droves. The stage was small, but my presence was large. Oh, the tutus and the laughter and the singing and the applause! They absolutely loved it. You know, some nights you just connect with an audience, and this was definitely one of those nights!
After my set, a kind stranger (with the best pink polka-dot hair you've ever seen!) invited me to join her and her friends for a traditional English dinner at a charming, historic pub right across from the train station. They insisted on paying, and I can’t say I was opposed. After all, what’s a drag queen on tour without a little spoiling? We dined on local favorites, stories of travels, and a fair amount of laughter, and I left with a truly full heart.
But as every good adventure has to come to an end, my train journey back to Derbyshire awaited. However, I have to say that Aylesbury was far more than just a weekend away. It was a reminder of the beauty of finding the pink in every journey, in every performance, in every moment.
And hey, you know what I say – if I can spread the joy of tutus and pink in the most unexpected places, like Aylesbury, then anything is possible. After all, as we’ve all learned, life is far too short to take yourself too seriously, to stay inside, to shy away from sparkles and pink.
