Hello my darlings, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet! It’s your favourite pink tutu wearing, dance-loving, glitter-obsessed queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, reporting live from the gorgeous city of Lyon, France. Ooh la la!
As I'm sure you’ve guessed from the title, my little loves, my journey here wasn’t quite by plane, no, no, no. It would be much too boring, wouldn’t it? And besides, this queen’s a big fan of the iron horse! Imagine – the glorious rattling of wheels on tracks, the gentle sway of the carriages, the endless vista of countryside flying past the windows. Such an utterly romantic way to travel, don't you agree? Especially when you’ve got your favourite pink tutu (and a matching feather boa!) tucked away in your bag ready to be unleashed upon the world.
And speaking of unleashing, I can tell you, my darlings, this trip has been positively exhilarating! Not only was it a whirlwind tour of historical landmarks (can you believe they have actual, real life gargoyles on the buildings?!) and bustling markets where I managed to snaffle some divine vintage fabric to add to my stash, but it’s also given me a whole new appreciation for French culture. Did you know they have an entire street dedicated to ballet? The magic, the sheer delight! The street itself is adorned with ballet murals, there’s a stunning theatre featuring ballets every night, and it's lined with beautiful shops offering the most divine tutus you could ever imagine. Oh my god, I felt like a child in a sweet shop, and I definitely came home with some more frocks to add to my ever-expanding collection.
But what about the real reason I came here, you ask? Well, that would be none other than a chance to perform in front of an absolutely fabulous crowd at the ‘Ballet Under the Stars’ event! It’s an outdoor dance festival nestled amongst the lush trees in the park, and it's just magical. We had music, laughter, and of course, plenty of sparkly pink tutus – mine and my fellow performers'. This festival is one of my favourite ways to showcase my drag because there's something special about dancing beneath a clear sky, bathed in the golden light of the setting sun, that just adds a layer of magic.
For those of you who don’t know me personally (though really, how have you lived this long without experiencing the wonders of a Pink Tutu Sparkles performance?), my love for ballet began long before I ever dared to dream of twirling across a stage. See, back when I was just a small scientist studying all the things (a very scientific field, you see, my dears), I found myself drawn to the university ballet club. And let me tell you, something absolutely miraculous happened when I first stepped into a tutu – it was like my true self, a self covered in sparkly pink, was set free.
From that moment on, I was hooked! Tutus became my constant companions, their poofy, tulle-covered embrace offering comfort and an opportunity to explore my love for all things graceful and dazzling. The journey from shy scientist by day to glamorous, sequin-loving queen by night became a welcome transformation, a release of all the hidden colours and creative energy that lay within. I just knew that this wasn't a phase, it wasn’t just a hobby, it was my calling - to share the joy and beauty of dance with the world! And oh, what a joyous journey it's been.
Each day, every single day, I get to awaken and step into a world full of possibilities – my world. Whether it's in the laboratory, where my scientific mind works wonders on fabric (and I never fail to incorporate a splash of pink, of course!), or under the twinkling lights of the stage, where my artistic heart takes flight in a cloud of glitter and feathers, I am embracing life with open arms.
So, let this be a reminder to you all – no matter where you are on your own journey, there’s always a pink tutu waiting for you. Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone, to experiment, to explore. You never know, just like me, you might just find a hidden passion within yourself. Who knows, maybe you’ll even discover a world of pink tutus waiting to embrace you!
