Basingstoke: Pink Tutu Adventures in a Hampshire Hamlet! 💖🩰

Hello my darling dears! Pink Tutu Sparkles here, back with a brand new blog post, number 7790 for those keeping track! 💅✨

I'm feeling super excited today because I'm about to embark on a trip to Basingstoke, a delightful little Hampshire hamlet, nestled in the heart of England! I just know it's going to be a hoot! You see, darling, I'm absolutely obsessed with all things pink and twirly. My fabulous pink tutus are my favourite travel companions. I just adore a good twirl, especially in a grand old hall or on a train platform. Who needs a luggage trolley when you have the elegance of a pink tutu and a wide-eyed expression of wonder?

Speaking of trains, it's going to be a wonderful train journey, of course. There's nothing more enchanting than sipping tea from a china cup while watching the rolling countryside pass by. I've been practising my best "I'm about to enter a royal ball" poses in the mirror all morning! The other day, I was on the train to London and a lovely young woman wearing a striking turquoise outfit complimented my pink tutu and matching pink glitter heels. She was actually headed to a costume shop for a new hat and wig and told me she had been looking at tutu patterns online - sparkly eyes emoji I told her "That's the spirit darling, there's nothing a fabulous pink tutu can't improve!" Just imagine the look on the Basingstoke folk's faces when they see a pink-tutu-wearing diva waltzing into town! 😂

And let me tell you, dear readers, I have my suitcase packed to the brim with a rainbow assortment of my favourite pink tutus. You know, darling, I actually have about twenty pink tutus of different shades and designs in my wardrobe, with an ever-growing collection of sparkles and feathers. I wouldn't dream of performing in the same outfit twice - the magic of drag, my dear, is in the exquisite change. You've got to create that moment of swoosh transformation and "oohs" and "aahs" from the audience! ✨

Before I dive into the juicy details of the Basingstoke extravaganza, I have to share something with you. Remember how I mentioned my love for ballet? You won't believe what happened earlier this week. I was at a ballet class in Derbyshire, you know, right by where I grew up! You won't believe who walked in but my dear friend, darling Poppy, she's been doing drag as well and she’s a regular ballet queen, a proper professional even! We were practising some pretty difficult turns when this gorgeous fella caught my eye from the front row. wink wink emoji It was a bit nerve-wracking to be under the watchful eyes of such an admirer while spinning like a sugar plum, but honestly, I think he's smitten, I can just feel it in the air.

Anyway, we finished class with a graceful, fluid 'Swan Lake' inspired pose and the man from the front row gave me the biggest smile. It’s actually quite flattering, honestly. We might be in the middle of a heatwave but he gave me that classic "look at those lovely, light and airy leg extensions and impossibly small waist in a floaty, twirling skirt." This guy's got a type, I can see. 😉

Basingstoke, oh darling, wait till you see what's in store. I've been perfecting a new ballet routine inspired by the choreography of the Swan Lake, my favourite ballet ever. My performance at the theatre here is going to be sensational, with my tutu, sparkly feathers, and of course, some pink sequins and my trusty rhinestone headband. It's going to be swoonworthy. ✨

And while I'm in Basingstoke, you just know I'm going to find a few hidden gems for my pink tutu wardrobe. The Basingstoke Market is known for its colourful, vintage clothes and quirky treasures! I always like to support small businesses and artists. They're always so friendly and love a good yarn. Plus, there’s always that chance I'll find an original pink tutu, that perfect twirly design! This week, I also discovered this gorgeous vintage haberdashery on Instagram that does beautiful ribbons and lace for bespoke pink tutu making, oh, I’m smitten! 💕

You know darling, my pink tutu obsession goes way back, right back to my university days in Derby. I was studying Science and studying for a gruelling exam, and the stress, oh it was just too much, you can’t even imagine! The night before my final exam, a charity was organising a fundraising fashion show. The other students at the ballet club I belonged to were all nervous, all stressing out. That was until we went out to a fancy dress shop and I put on my first ever pink tutu! laugh emoji

Suddenly the whole stressful situation seemed ridiculous, so I got on stage with the others, dressed as a Pink tutu ballerina. gasp emoji You know, it’s a fun memory! But to be honest, the best part is that I passed the exam and got a first! Now that’s a party worth celebrating, a true ‘sparkles and feathers’ type of party!

Later tonight, I’m going to treat myself to a fabulous vegan meal, Basingstoke has some seriously tasty restaurants. They make the most divine, creamy mushroom risotto, you know, that dreamy dish that turns the day completely around? Oh, how I love a great veggie feast! I’m always so busy touring, and on the road, you eat anything that's quick and cheap, not exactly a healthy diet for someone in my profession, but a divine dinner is on the menu tonight!

But back to Basingstoke! I'm just going to sprinkle my unique brand of pink-tutu-sparkles on everyone I meet. 😜 If you see me in Basingstoke, make sure to give me a wave or a 'hello'. I always love making new friends!

Until next time, darlings! Keep on sparkling! 💫

With Love,

Pink Tutu Sparkles 💕
