Salisbury Sparkle: A Pink Tutu Journey to the South

Hello my lovelies! It's your Pink Tutu Sparkles here, ready to whisk you away on another adventure, this time to the lovely historic city of Salisbury. Now, I know what you're thinking – "Salisbury? Isn't that a bit… sleepy?" But let me tell you, darling, Salisbury has a hidden sparkle, just waiting to be discovered!

It's always an absolute thrill to explore new places, and this time I decided to ditch the trusty double-decker bus and go old-school – I took the train! I love the rhythmic chugging, the windows whizzing past, the gentle sway… a train journey is like a little performance in itself. My fluffy pink suitcase, decked with rhinestones and a matching feather boa, was the perfect accompaniment.

As the train snaked its way through the rolling English countryside, I got into the spirit of things by putting on my “train playlist” – all those upbeat show tunes that get the blood pumping! I had my head in a world of sequins and sparkles, even before arriving at my destination.

But honestly, even without the theatrics, Salisbury is just lovely! With its cobbled streets and ancient cathedral looming high above, there’s a genuine feeling of history around every corner. Plus, Salisbury has this gorgeous medieval market that feels like it's straight out of a storybook. It was brimming with charming stalls bursting with local crafts and delectable treats. I nabbed a delightful pot of lavender honey – perfect for my next evening tea.

The cathedral, oh my, simply breath-taking! And the whole town just radiates an aura of calm and serenity. I even spotted a gaggle of geese strutting about, making their way through the cobbled squares! They looked quite glamorous in their black and white plumage, strutting around like a miniature ballerina troupe. They reminded me that there’s a touch of sparkle in even the simplest things.

Speaking of sparkle, my reason for heading to Salisbury? A performance! Well, more precisely, two! I'm talking fabulous, sequin-filled, glitter-infused performances, and not just for any old audience, but at a fundraiser for the local theatre school!

I absolutely adore children’s theatre schools. They're like mini academies of creativity and self-expression! And the young performers at this particular school were a joy to watch. They were bubbling with enthusiasm and excitement, their tiny tutus swirling as they pranced across the stage. It truly warmed my heart to witness that infectious passion. I was there to bring my signature sparkle and teach them a few fun tricks I learned from performing in shows and street events all over the UK.

For my own set, I decided to go with a shimmering coral and silver tutu – a perfect choice for the warm, late summer air. The outfit was adorned with playful fringing that shimmied as I danced – just like a tropical breeze! I even brought out my giant pink feather fan to really accentuate those sassy poses. The children absolutely loved it! They squealed with delight and waved their tiny hands excitedly as I shimmied and sparkled under the stage lights.

After the performance, I grabbed a cup of hot chocolate (whipped cream and marshmallows, naturally!) and had a little chat with some of the children. I told them a bit about how I started my drag journey. Turns out it was inspired by the ballet club back when I was a science student at university! Can you believe it? One of my closest friends at the time – we studied physics together, if you can believe it – was doing a fundraising gig for charity and they needed someone to wear a tutu… And guess what? They dragged me, quite literally, into this glittery world!

After those years of hunched over a microscope in the lab (and believe me, it’s a world apart from my colourful performances), I can safely say, I was never looking back. My love for ballet is still as strong as ever. It inspires my performance, it gives me structure, it tells a story – in its own quiet way.

So here I am, a science student by day and Pink Tutu Sparkles by night, inspiring others with my love for dance, fashion, and yes, even tutus! After the show, I went out to celebrate with the theatre school’s supporters in the local pub. Turns out they had a truly amazing dance floor! With the locals looking on, we gave them a little show, complete with some “high kicks” and "pirouette" routines, proving that, you can always find a reason to celebrate, no matter what you do, where you are, or, of course, what you wear!

And that's where this little blog post must end, darling, for now. I'm off to pack my bags – my sparkly suitcase is waiting! But before you all head off to the latest catwalk extravaganzas, remember what we talked about today - sparkle, shine, and don’t be afraid to embrace the unexpected! The most extraordinary journeys are always filled with surprising moments and unexpected adventures, and with a bit of glitter and some bold pink, anything is possible. I'll be sure to let you know what my next destination will be! Stay tuned for the latest on Pink Tutu Sparkles and my glamorous adventures around the world!

Until next time, darlings! Stay fabulous!

Lots of love, and of course, lots of pink…

Pink Tutu Sparkles.
