This time, I’m in the historical city of Cambridge, known for its world-renowned university, charming bridges, and a sprinkle of that classic English charm. As a proud Derbyshire lass, I’ve always wanted to explore Cambridge – especially its famous university! So, when I found out I had a performance opportunity at a delightful little cabaret, I jumped at the chance.
This city truly lives up to its reputation, with its beautiful buildings and cobbled streets – just begging to be twirled in! And don’t even get me started on the gorgeous cafes with their decadent pastries, perfect for a pre-show sugar rush.
Before I headed out to my performance, I treated myself to a shopping spree, and what else would Pink Tutu Sparkles wear in Cambridge, but the colour of royalty, pink, of course! I picked up a breathtakingly gorgeous blush pink silk scarf for a pop of elegance and a stunning fuchsia tutu to amp up my performance – I knew I couldn’t just any old pink, I had to choose wisely!
You wouldn’t believe what an absolutely splendid time I had performing for these Cambridge locals! They were a truly fantastic crowd. The energy was vibrant, the music was bouncing, and the applause was simply glorious. Honestly, I think my fabulous performance, adorned in pink, managed to get half the audience twirling along with me!
The Cambridge experience went far beyond the cabaret, darlings! I managed to squeeze in a few hours to soak up some of this magnificent city’s culture.
You simply cannot go to Cambridge without visiting the historic Trinity College! Walking through the halls of this university was like stepping back in time. I felt inspired by the geniuses who had walked these very paths before me – truly, there’s a certain magic in this city!
As I explored Cambridge's hidden corners and secret passageways, it struck me how many opportunities this town has for a queen of the ballet-inspired glamour like myself! There's something absolutely captivating about Cambridge – the combination of scholarly wisdom and cultural exuberance is simply intoxicating!
But here’s a secret – as lovely as Cambridge is, this glamorous pink tutu-wearing queen isn't all about sightseeing. 🤫
It was in Cambridge, a whole two years ago, when my science background came to play, right here in a university laboratory – believe it or not, I'm a scientist by day, using all those scientific techniques and research methods, to test fabrics! But as we say, science can be quite boring by comparison. You simply wouldn’t guess, would you, but there’s this hidden pink tutu-loving queen, who comes alive as soon as the lab coats and lab glasses come off!
Now, I just love those grand ballet schools you can find dotted around Cambridge. There's an absolutely splendid Ballet Arts Centre on Mill Road, which seems to have classes for everyone – even an evening beginner's ballet class, oh how tempting it was to drop in! And the Royal Opera House is also based here! 🩰
I could feel the rhythm of the dancers pulsating through the cobbled streets – Cambridge truly has it all for someone who loves a touch of the fabulous in her life, like yours truly! It just inspires you to let your imagination run wild. You’d never catch me in one of their traditional ballet costumes – they’re beautiful but a tad too expected, for my taste, that’s for sure!
On my second day in Cambridge, I popped along to the gorgeous Cambridge Junction theatre, a magnificent, vibrant cultural space in the heart of the city, that celebrates art, theatre, and music! As I browsed the eclectic mix of performances and exhibitions they had on display, a magnificent plan began to formulate – my fabulous drag act needed a brand-new twist, something unique and utterly exciting! And let me tell you – it will include my new gorgeous fuchsia tutu, which looks simply divine! I don't want to spoil the surprise for you all just yet, so stay tuned!
As always, it’s these kind of experiences that keep my pink-tutu loving heart beating faster than a waltz on pointe shoes! This journey to Cambridge, brimming with beauty, grace, and a pinch of history, has given me the perfect inspiration for the coming weeks.
