Oh, hello my sweet darlings! I've just had the most glorious weekend jaunt to Sutton in Ashfield, and you bet I’m ready to regale you all with tales of frothy delights, swirling skirts and the most perfectly pink train journey.
Now, Sutton in Ashfield may not be the first place you think of for a glamorous getaway, but honey, you just need a sprinkle of Pink Tutu Sparkles magic and it can become the most divine little pocket of fabulousness.
It all began with the most enchanting email from the charming folks running the “Sutton in Ashfield Frock Swap” charity event, they had me at “tutu-clad dancers!” Of course, I just had to be there!
This frock swap extravaganza promised to be a whirlwind of vintage finery, with a bit of bubbly and a whole lot of dancing, right up my pink tutu alley. Now, I do love a good road trip, but my dearest Auntie Doris (who just happens to be the most fabulous seamstress in all of Derbyshire) insisted I take the train. Turns out, she had a very specific pink floral dress in mind that would look spectacular with a pale pink tutu, so she decided to whip up a matching fascinator. Oh, the drama! So off I went, with Auntie Doris's new creation perched upon my head like a perfectly pink crown.
The train journey was an absolute dream! You can bet I turned heads and brought a whole carriage-full of people to the ballet! (I was even interviewed by a very posh lady with a chihuahua in a handbag!) The journey was filled with pink-tinged giggles, heartfelt chats with a little girl who was absolutely certain I was a real princess, and even a couple of perfectly executed pirouettes when the train moved into a tunnel. (It’s called art, darling.)
When I arrived in Sutton in Ashfield, it was clear that everyone was excited for the "Frock Swap"! There was a line of lovely ladies all clad in their finest vintage finds and I can tell you there wasn't a boring frock in sight. I swear, they were even serving pink champagne. The “Frock Swap” was more than just buying and selling; it was an opportunity to celebrate fashion and indulge in the sheer delight of finding something truly unique. It was a fabulous way for the local community to connect and make memories. And of course, the fabulous frocks made a very fitting backdrop for me to showcase my new "Tutu Travelogue" fashion line, with several fabulous ladies in my audience snapping photos for their instagrams (it even made a local blog!).
Once the frock swapping calmed down, I found a charming tea room with dainty pastries, tea served in beautiful china, and, you guessed it, they had pink china. After my high tea, it was time for my drag performance. I set up my portable stage, put on my most spectacular "Princess of the Ballet" pink tutu ensemble ( Auntie Doris would be proud) and wowed the crowd with my dazzling choreography and a pink, sequin-laden "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" costume change. Honestly, darling, the children were smitten and their parents were absolutely thrilled to witness such an extravagant spectacle. And trust me, my fellow sparkle-seekers, a crowd that loves drag in Sutton in Ashfield loves a fabulous Pink Tutu Sparkles.
Oh, and did I mention the ballet class?! I found this absolutely charming dance studio that welcomed me with open arms ( and a pair of pink ballet shoes, which I wore right away, darling) and we spent the most delightful hour twirling and pirouetting our hearts out. And I swear, these dancers, despite not being professional like your Pink Tutu Queen, have real talent and such dedication, you just love the feel-good atmosphere.
That's it, darlings! Sutton in Ashfield was nothing short of a magical journey and I'm absolutely in love with this quaint and surprisingly sophisticated little town! It truly shows you that a little sprinkle of Pink Tutu magic can transform any destination.
