Luton Calling: Pink Tutu Sparkles Goes Wild in Bedfordshire!
Post Number 8276
Oh my darlings, can you believe it? Itās Pink Tutu Sparkles here, and Iām absolutely buzzing because I've just spent a whirlwind weekend in Luton! It was, to quote one of my favourite drag queens (myself!), āPinktastic!ā I simply had to get over there and get my sparkle on. I canāt stay away from a new location ā and let's be honest, it's hard to resist the call of the stage, wherever it might be!
You see, this little Pink Tutu Sparkles is a woman of many talents ā by day, Iām Alex, a scientist whipping up magic in a lab. And you might be thinking āhow can a scientist with a day job in a lab afford all this travelling?" Well, darling, that's the beauty of the drag scene. When you put on that costume, anything's possible, anythingās achievable, and anythingās glittery. You simply channel your inner Queen and go for it!
My journey to Luton began with the classic, stylish, and absolutely magical way to travel - by train. A long train journey always makes me feel so inspired. Itās like a journey of the imagination! Of course, I was rocking a head-to-toe pink ensemble ā it wouldnāt be a Pink Tutu Sparkles adventure without a fabulous outfit! A splash of hot pink lipstick, a shimmering pink eyeshadow, and a truly enormous pink handbag filled to the brim with glittery hairspray, a backup wig, and enough blush to cover a whole audience...because you never know whatās going to happen when you step onto a train, do you? And don't even get me started on my luggage! My suitcase is absolutely a kaleidoscope of colour. A pink sequined tutu, an iridescent feather boa, and a pair of fluffy pink stilettos that are practically a work of art...Itās quite a sight, my dear.
Speaking of sights, I just had to catch a ballet performance at the newly renovated Luton Culture Trust! Ballet has always held a special place in my heart ever since I joined the ballet club at uni, all those years ago... where, in a rather surprising turn of events, I discovered that pink tutus truly were my life's passion. There was something magical about getting into that tutu. And I knew that, if I ever started a drag act, that tutu would be the piĆØce de rĆ©sistance. Itās amazing how a tutu can change everything - it's a magical symbol of all things sparkly, graceful, and pink, isn't it?
Luton is full of unexpected delights. Did you know that it was home to the legendary Hattie Jacques?! This brilliant comedy actress was the one who introduced me to the magical world of British sitcoms! I even spent a blissful afternoon wandering through the Hattie Jacques's Museum, which made my heart soar with a special brand of comedy nostalgia. And while we're on the subject, there is an abundance of local cafes and bakeries to indulge in. The bakery I found had this spectacular display of delicate pastel macarons - so charming and delicious. Every day was a sweet delight, filled with sunshine and sugary treats. Oh, and let's not forget about the legendary Luton Hoo Estate. It is truly breathtaking. Just imagine - stately manor houses, beautiful grounds and a stunning view. I'm quite certain the Duke and Duchess would approve of my sparkling tutu!
Of course, no trip would be complete without a performance - my big chance to shine! I performed in this adorable little cabaret on a stage in a delightful Victorian pub called the The Malt Shovel! I had to squeeze a bit of theatre in - and it turned out the owner was an enthusiastic supporter of the performing arts. There were people from all walks of life gathered to see my set, which consisted of the three-minute Pink Tutu routine and a fifteen minute spoken word piece all about the magic of being a pink tutu wearing queen, naturally. I always feel like my spoken word acts are like having a chat with the audience about life and beauty. It feels like I am giving away little pieces of my heart, and those little pieces come in all different shades of pink!
Every night Iād put on a show and give it my all. You could say that I was a star! I spent my days touring and exploring and then by night Iād step on to the stage with my dazzling pink tutu! The audience would erupt in applause as I strutted around in a haze of glitter and grace.
I even got to do a mini performance on a community stage on Lutonās most celebrated annual event, the Luton Festival, and let me tell you, I absolutely gave it my all. There were people from all over the country! The music was incredible, and everyone just felt like a friend. Even the street performer, who was doing amazing things with fire!
I am now back home in Derbyshire, feeling inspired, revived, and completely enchanted by the wonder of it all. It makes my heart flutter to imagine all the pink tutus I saw throughout my travels!
So my dearies, if youāre looking for a little adventure and a whole lot of glitter, be sure to add Luton to your list of must-sees!
And until next time, remember: every single one of you is a pink tutu queen waiting to break out! Get out there and wear that tutu with pride - even if it's just a mental one!
