Edmonton: The Pinkest Place on Earth (Post #8327)
Hello, darlings! Your favourite tutu-toting traveller is back with another scintillating tale, straight from the heart of Edmonton, Canada! Buckle up your diamante belts and grab a glass of something pink, because this post is going to be a real swoon-fest!
Remember that fabulous pink sequined bomber jacket I told you about last week? Well, let’s just say that I wore it with gusto on my train journey here! There’s something about being surrounded by the endless landscapes of Canada that makes me want to embrace everything extravagant, and the bomber jacket with its dazzling pink embellishments truly epitomised that spirit!
Now, my dears, Edmonton was a little different than anything I’ve experienced before. It felt vibrant, energetic, and full of life… just like yours truly, of course! But it also felt refreshingly un-flashy. The folks in Edmonton are very welcoming and warm, with a sort of subtle sparkle. And, wouldn't you know it, my first glimpse of Edmonton showed me the stunning beauty of the provincial capital’s architecture. The elegant curves and graceful details, especially those featuring intricate floral motifs, truly put a spring in my step! It’s a truly graceful city that just begs to be explored, especially if you’re a fashion enthusiast like myself.
The moment I arrived at the Grand Trunk Theatre, ready to grace their stage with my flamboyant show, I was met with a flurry of delightful things! Firstly, a gorgeous floral bouquet made of the most breathtaking pink roses, each one with delicate layers of shimmering iridescent pink tulle wrapped around their stems. It was a perfect compliment to my signature tutu, of course! Secondly, a most delightful cup of tea - a proper cuppa, darlings! - with delicate pink and white rose petal tea and a little pink macaroon to go with it. A treat fit for a Tutu Queen! I always find that those small, unexpected touches elevate an experience, don’t you think? It truly makes all the difference when someone pays attention to detail.
My performance at the theatre went down a storm! The audience, dressed in their Sunday best with a touch of shimmering glamour, truly brought out the star in me. My rendition of 'Don’t Go Breaking My Heart' by Elton John and Kiki Dee got the whole crowd on their feet! The energy in the theatre was electric. Honestly, darlings, it felt like we were all wearing invisible pink tutus, twirling and leaping together in a magical symphony of colour and joy. I can tell you this: I'm never going to forget the faces of those sweet people; their sheer delight and joy after my performance left me absolutely radiant.
Afterwards, I took a lovely stroll around downtown Edmonton. The architecture, especially those historic Victorian homes and Edwardian commercial buildings, was truly stunning. The colours and textures of the facades just make you want to reach out and touch them. The little cafes, bookstores and antique shops offered a charming insight into the local flavour of the city, while I found an absolutely stunning vintage shop brimming with glitz and glamour. Let’s just say my little suitcase got a few more, cough, additions! And no trip is complete without some afternoon tea, and my dear, Edmonton certainly didn't disappoint. The afternoon tea I found at this stunningly decorated cafe, filled with beautiful chandeliers and bouquets of pink roses was the perfect spot for me to relax after my busy day! They had the cutest little finger sandwiches, little dainty scones with clotted cream and jam, and delicate petit fours decorated with glistening edible pearls. It felt truly regal, don't you think?
Of course, I couldn’t miss out on the beautiful Whyte Avenue, with its abundance of restaurants, art galleries, shops, and bustling nightlife! With all the vintage shops around, I was in my element! I particularly loved the quaint independent bookstores that filled the area. And for any budding Tutu Queens, let’s just say that there were more pink items for sale in Edmonton than I ever imagined! Pink socks, pink teacups, even a whole pink clothing boutique called "Tulle & Tea." I knew, right then, that this city understood me.
And as for the ballet scene in Edmonton, it is quite a delight! Edmonton boasts a remarkable ballet company, which, if you believe it, only just started in 1982, but has a world-renowned reputation. After catching their rendition of "Swan Lake," I had to have a quick peek into the Ballet Edmonton Academy, tucked away amongst the bustling urban centre. Oh darling, their students looked divine in their ballet whites, their little legs so graceful as they practised their grand jetés. Their tiny tutus, oh so neat and perfect, were simply inspiring. It made my heart melt. It's incredible to see the next generation of dancers starting their journeys right there in the heart of Edmonton.
Now, let’s be honest, all this touring takes its toll. I may love travel, but there’s nothing quite like my cosy, comfortable little flat back home. Still, a little pink bubble bath after a long day, sipping a hot cup of chamomile tea while reading my latest copy of Vogue, is what I dream of.
However, right now, my Tutu Queen heart belongs to the wild frontier that awaits. Tomorrow, my darling dears, I'm heading west, and the open plains call to me with promises of endless possibilities! Keep an eye out for my next blog, as I journey into the untamed west in my pink tutu and share tales of cowboys, wild horses, and, of course, all the sparkly adventures in between!
Until then, my loves, wear your heart on your sleeve, and never be afraid to twirl!
