Wellington Whirlwind: Tutu Queen Takes on the Capital!
Blog Post #8505
Hello darlings! It's your girl, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here, ready to spill the tea on my latest adventure! This week, I swapped the bustling streets of London for the breezy shores of Wellington, New Zealand. And, as always, my trusty pink tutu was in tow, ready to bring a splash of glamour to the city!
Let's face it, life's too short for boring outfits, and I firmly believe that everyone should experience the joy of twirling in a tutu. From the moment I stepped off the (wait for it) train, the vibrant energy of Wellington was calling to me like a siren song. This is a city that truly embraces the arts, and as soon as I set eyes on the historic architecture, I knew my tutu would be right at home.
I spent my first day in Wellington like a giddy schoolgirl on a field trip. I literally hopped off the train and ran straight to a vintage boutique (pink, naturally!), where I scored a few amazing vintage finds. Picture this: a bright pink feathered boa, a pair of emerald green platform heels (that I later realised I needed more platforms for because, hey, I'm a tutu queen, we always need a bit of lift!), and a vintage lace handkerchief, perfect for a dramatic reveal, if I do say so myself!
Of course, I couldn't spend a day in Wellington without checking out the amazing Wellington Opera House! The grand architecture was a dream come true. Imagine the most majestic theatre, painted in delicate pastel colours, and adorned with crystal chandeliers! It felt like a fairytale. And you just know, my little tutu had to make an appearance inside. As a treat to myself, I went to see a production of Swan Lake, and I practically cried my eyes out at the ballerina's graceful moves. Seeing the dancers, they moved like they were a feather being moved by the gentlest of breezes!
In the evenings, it was all about soaking up the local culture. The Wellington scene is incredibly lively - I met so many friendly locals, and it was incredible to see their enthusiastic reactions to my fabulous outfits. From the pubs to the little independent cafes, Wellington embraced my pink tutu with open arms. And, as if by magic, I even managed to convince a few local boys to don some pink tulle, too! Who knew Wellington would be the first city to get its citizens in tutus?! (Ok, it's just one chap - but we're building! Remember, we’re a big group effort and together, with our sparkly, colourful tutus, we’re making the world a brighter place!)
My trip to Wellington would be incomplete without a visit to the Zealandia Ecosanctuary! I found out it was a wildlife reserve filled with all sorts of interesting critters - imagine an adventure full of native New Zealand birds, giant weta insects and rare lizards! Of course, I wore my fabulous tutu - it was all about adding a touch of sparkle to the natural beauty of Zealandia. (Actually, the real treat for me was getting to hold one of those giant, long-legged insects! I found out they can lift 10 times their own weight! What incredible strength those cute little beasties have!)
But, Wellington isn't all about grand architecture and nature sanctuaries - the local markets were absolutely buzzing. You know me, I can't resist a bargain, and the Wellington markets were an absolute treasure trove for quirky souvenirs. The food was phenomenal, and let's not forget the artisanal crafts!
Before I knew it, my time in Wellington was coming to a close. And, naturally, no good farewell is complete without a proper party! I hosted a little soiree, of course! There were sequins galore, and enough pink to rival a bubblegum factory explosion. Everyone in attendance got to twirl, pose and strike some glamorous pictures. It was magical! And while I miss Wellington, I can’t wait to see what other adventures await!
Oh, darling, did you know I am on tour this month?! That’s right! I will be travelling throughout Europe, America and Australia to bring my fun and glamorous drag shows to cities around the world! And with all my glamorous shows comes fabulous tutus for everyone who attends! Who knew this former Derbyshire girl would be able to perform in venues such as The Royal Albert Hall and Lincoln Center in NYC. (Remember, a girl’s gotta dream, darlings and in my pink tutu I believe we can all achieve our goals). I started drag as a way to express myself - to be whoever I wanted to be. What started out as a few tutus and an eye for flamboyant costumes has blossomed into something incredible! And, oh darlings, I love that I am inspiring everyone who sees me to think “yes I can” and to “try anything.” Don’t forget, everyone is worthy of sparkle and everyone deserves to have some fun in life.
Keep those twirls fabulous and never let the sparkly glitter leave your eye. Love and sequins, Pink Tutu Sparkles x
