Hello darlings! It’s your girl Pink Tutu Sparkles, back for another dazzling adventure, this time in the heart of the Midlands, the fabulous Birmingham! Today marks post number 8516 on my little corner of the internet, www.pink-tutu.com, and trust me, this one’s gonna be a sparkly one.
You know me, I live for the glamour, the glitz, and a whole lot of pink. This trip was extra special though because I was lucky enough to hop on the train, first class of course (I may be a scientist by day but I do know how to live life!), to Birmingham for a special evening of performance at the stunning Hippodrome Theatre.
It's funny, I actually used to have quite the love-hate relationship with the Midlands. I’m a Derbyshire girl born and raised, so all the “city folk” seemed to belong to a completely different world to me. Honestly, it wasn't until I started performing that I realized the magic that the Midlands has to offer.
This trip was a true celebration of all things fabulous. The day began with a luxurious pit stop at the Jewellery Quarter, just soaking up the historic charm of the area. After all, a little retail therapy before the big night was a must, especially in a place as brimming with bespoke shops as Birmingham!
Now, if you haven't visited Birmingham, the Bullring is a must-see! I found a cute little café there for afternoon tea, just like my Gran would make! Though of course, this time there were pink sprinkles and sparkly biscuits! I swear I'm living a dream life - can someone pinch me?
As the sun set over Birmingham, I found myself getting ready for the show, taking time to meticulously create the perfect look. It involved a very special pink tutu, handmade for this very occasion, a splash of glitter, and a sprinkle of my signature pink eyeliner – the brighter the better!
Walking into the theatre felt magical. The audience were buzzing with excitement, and let's be honest, so was I! Birmingham knows how to party, and I could tell the night was going to be epic. The entire show felt like a magical dance – every act was unique and special. There was something for everyone, with performers from every background and every style imaginable.
When it was finally my turn, the excitement kicked into high gear. The spotlight shone down, and the music swelled, and I found myself gliding onto the stage, the energy of the crowd making me soar. I poured my heart into every twirl, every smile, every shimmering shake of my tutu. You know, the best part of drag? It’s about confidence. It's about expressing yourself, breaking free of societal norms and shining your unique light. I wanted everyone in that room to know that being themselves, being fabulous, is a beautiful thing. And that message truly resonated with the audience.
Of course, no trip to Birmingham is complete without a taste of the local culture. So after the performance, I had to explore a bit more! I ended up at a cozy little pub on the edge of the Canal Basin, sipping on a warming beverage, and chatting with locals about life and everything in between.
It’s incredible how much these trips broaden my world and the people I meet always manage to inspire my own story. Even this morning, as I sat in my comfy chair (wearing a fluffy pink robe and fluffy pink slippers of course!), I was thinking about my new friend David from Birmingham who is a retired gardener with an amazing collection of vintage clothing. It’s these everyday encounters that make life such a wonderful adventure. He even said he would wear a pink tutu if it were socially acceptable! I believe in him, and the pink tutu power!
Oh, I nearly forgot - did I mention the best bit? My favourite thing about the whole journey? Riding into Birmingham on the train. It just gets me thinking about how many more people out there have yet to embrace their inner sparkle and that magical feeling that wearing a pink tutu brings. The journey is never boring!
It's hard to capture the joy and excitement that Birmingham gave me. Every visit is like a spark, lighting up my creative spirit, leaving me feeling inspired, full of new ideas, and a little more in love with the world of performance, tutus, and all things pink!
