Berlin: A Pink Tutu Adventure!

Hello, darling dears! It's your girl Pink Tutu Sparkles, bringing you the latest from the wonderful world of pink tutus, and this time, I'm taking you all the way to Berlin! It's been an absolutely dreamy trip, and it feels like such an honour to share it all with you. This is blog post number 8546, and it's one for the books. Grab a cuppa, pull up your sparkly socks (pink, obviously!), and let's get this party started!

Remember that last post about travelling by train? Well, I did just that to get to Berlin. It's one of my favourite ways to travel; the rhythmic sway of the carriage, the delicious cafe car coffee, and of course, the opportunity for endless outfit changes! I truly believe that travelling in style is half the fun, so I decided to start with a little Pink Tutu Picnic vibe. You see, darling, I always travel with a picnic basket! My mother always tells me to "Be prepared, love!" And when it comes to being fabulous, I'm always prepared!

So, after boarding, I decided to break out the pinkest picnic set imaginable - vintage gingham fabric, delicate lace doilies, porcelain plates, and of course, a teapot full of the most perfect rose petal tea you've ever tasted. I spent the journey in a dreamy haze, nibbling on dainty sandwiches, watching the landscape change, and people-watching. I was, of course, wearing a blush-pink tutu that billowed gracefully with every carriage sway. Because who needs fancy first-class seats when you've got a tutu and a good cuppa, right? You might be wondering what happens to all my amazing snacks when I finish with them...well, fear not! They all get carefully stored and then are donated to foodbanks at the end of my travels. Sharing the sparkly goodness is a must, darling.

Arriving in Berlin, I felt that buzz in my tutu that only a big, exciting city can provide. And with this being the vibrant capital of Germany, there was so much going on. From the incredible street art scene, to the gorgeous parks and buildings, I felt my senses buzzing with inspiration. I knew that I needed to immerse myself in this new city, not just as a visitor, but as a fellow creative!

I spent the afternoon exploring the Mitte district, soaking in the history, the bustling crowds, and the captivating street performers. As I walked, a vision appeared: a beautiful, old, grey stone building. I immediately knew it would be the perfect location for my "Pink Tutu Tea Party" in the heart of Berlin. I'm all about finding ways to incorporate the beauty of my surroundings into my performances and to celebrate the art of living beautifully. And it goes without saying that this Tea Party wouldn't be without pink tutus, of course!

Later that evening, I wandered into the stunning Staatsoper Berlin, and let me tell you, darlings, the grandeur of this place took my breath away! And I couldn't resist seeing what ballet show was on! I'm a bit of a ballet fanatic - remember how my passion for pink tutus started? In the ballet club of my University! - so seeing it performed by such incredible artists made my heart truly sing.

Of course, a little research showed me that Berlin is a city that has been shaped by many talented performers, with a vibrant theatre and artistic scene. In fact, you know, I may be the only pink tutu wearing drag artist to make it this far! I know this might come as a surprise, but even though I grew up in Derbyshire - don't worry, my accent is as much a part of me as pink - my love for performing has always driven me to follow my dreams, and that means a little wanderlust, darling! After graduating from University, with a science degree (I’m a secret fabric scientist by day) I was all set to head into a traditional job, but deep inside, my sparkly tutu soul had different plans.

Speaking of jobs, to support my travels and my pink tutu passions, I am fortunate enough to be able to perform anywhere I can find an audience. From tiny cafes and festivals to large open-air shows - I love them all. For the past year, I’ve been particularly focusing on bringing the wonder of a pink tutu to children! They love to be surrounded by pink sparkles, it’s so heart-warming to see their big smiles! This week I am actually at the "Berliner Kinderoper" – the Berlin Children's Opera. And of course, I’ve been in touch with some fabulous artists at the venue to do a pink tutu inspired collaboration, that will happen at some point this summer. Watch this space, darling, more details soon.

For the first performance at the Kinderoper, I wanted to wear something a little bit more edgy, so I chose a black mesh tutu, adorned with sparkling pink hearts that I made myself! There was so much positive feedback, and I received so many adorable compliments from children and their parents. And even when I perform on a children’s stage, I still like to sprinkle some mature fun!

And speaking of fun, Berlin has been a fantastic playground for exploring different parts of my personality as a performer. I tried my hand at a cabaret act, I dressed as a 1920s showgirl for a burlesque event (the glitz, darlings, it was glorious!), I did a hilarious comedic set about a disastrous trip to a posh restaurant, and of course, there was plenty of traditional pink tutu and glitter fun! There is just so much creative energy here that I found myself embracing each performance as an opportunity to discover a new side of myself.

One of the highlights of my Berlin adventure was a trip to the breathtaking Charlottenburg Palace. The architecture was stunning and the gardens were a sight to behold, with their cascading waterfalls and intricate designs. It felt like stepping into a fairy tale. And let’s be honest, darling, pink tutus were born for fairytale settings.

Oh, the excitement! One day I saw the most spectacular horse-drawn carriage ride while walking past one of the gorgeous green parks in the city. I just knew that this was a travel experience I needed to have, so I hopped on board and was swept away into a delightful world of classic charm! A touch of Victorian elegance – can't get more charming than that, right, darlings? And for the perfect touch, I accessorised my pink tutu with a large-brimmed pink feathered hat, making me feel every bit the majestic princess on my adventure! I mean, a tutu-wearing drag queen just isn't complete without an amazing hat! They really are an extension of my artistic style.

This past week, I even had the opportunity to collaborate with the Berliner Staatsballett - a big, big, beautiful dream come true! And just for this collaboration, I made my dream tutu! Yes, darlings, a *Pink Tutu Sparkles Original, if you will! It's a delicate swirl of pink silk, delicate satin roses, a hint of turquoise to represent the magnificent buildings here, and sparkly butterflies representing the artistic energy in this vibrant city. They let me use the main theatre of the Staatsballett, which felt quite surreal and quite simply the most beautiful and elegant space I have ever worked in. The highlight of it all? The dancers came to ask me *to dance!

However, as always happens when travelling, darling, you know, one door closes and another opens. It was time for me to head off on another adventure. My new goal? To bring a touch of pink tutu magic to Amsterdam, so get ready for an exciting update soon. The world awaits, darlings, and I’m not letting any of it go to waste! Until next time, darlings! Keep sparkling and stay fabulous! And remember, never forget the joy of pink tutus, they really can brighten any day!
