Harrow, Darlings! A Pink Tutu Pilgrimage to the Home of Ballet 🩰

Hello, lovelies! It’s your favourite pink-tutu-clad queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, back again for another adventure! This is post number 8545, can you believe it? I’ve been writing this blog for what feels like forever now, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world! 💖

Today I’m bringing you straight from the heart of Harrow, which you may recognise as the home of the Royal Ballet School – basically ballet heaven! I can’t resist a trip anywhere ballet is involved, especially when it’s a chance to indulge in all the frills and sparkles! This week I’ve got some serious catching up to do on my pink tutu wear, and I can’t think of a better place to find inspiration than at the Ballet School, especially after that dazzling performance at the Royal Opera House on Monday!

Now, for those of you who don’t know (shame on you! Have you not read a single post of mine?), I’m Alex, and by day, I’m a bit of a lab rat in a science lab. By night, I transform into Pink Tutu Sparkles, the queen of all things pink and twirly. That’s how it is, darlings! Balancing science and sparkles is my superpower. Who’d have thought a science graduate could turn a love of fabric analysis into a full-blown love affair with the fluffy stuff, you know? 😉 It all started back when I was studying at university. It was for a charity event, and the idea of donning a tutu felt ridiculous and amazing all at once! I put it on, and everything just clicked!

Right now I'm actually sipping a proper brew, one of those proper strong ones with the full fat milk, in my cute little hotel room here in Harrow, watching the rain fall against the window. I have the cutest room you ever did see, full of pastel pinks and floral patterns – a true paradise for a tutu queen like me! 💖

Oh, and speaking of paradise… This weekend I’ve got my eye on the gorgeous floral market in Harrow on the Hill. It’s only a stone's throw from my hotel, and honestly, just the thought of all the fresh blooms makes my tutu want to pirouette. Plus, it’s right next to the Harrow Arts Centre! A perfect combination of art, nature, and pink!

My journey to Harrow, by the way, was truly a classic! It was on the train, of course! No flying for this queen. Let’s be honest, there’s nothing quite as magical as winding your way through the English countryside on a train journey. Especially when you can admire the changing landscapes in your favourite shade of pink. This particular journey involved me, a friendly conductor, a very inquisitive baby and a whole lot of conversation! The baby was a real darling, he loved my outfit! Oh and this time I got to put on a dramatic performance in my best sequined suit. The conductor, God love her, said I really captured the spirit of the scene from ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ with all the wild gesticulating and such. What a delight to be bringing the drama wherever I go. The conductor wanted to know how I made the transition from ‘science whizz’ to ‘full-blown pink tutu extraordinaire’. She actually really liked the idea, it all made sense, she said. Well, I did warn her that science has a way of twisting into the unexpected. 😉

My week’s activities are jam-packed. From workshops with the Royal Ballet School – yes, darlings! A little twirling is on the agenda! – to popping into local shops searching for the perfect vintage pieces to compliment my ever-growing collection. I just can’t resist a good vintage hunt – finding something sparkly that nobody else has? Yes, please! It’s a thrill like no other, the only challenge being fitting all the lovely things into my suitcases. Luckily, this pink tutu loving queen is well-versed in the art of folding and packing! My luggage must have a few of the more dramatic ‘Marie Kondo’ rules to follow – things have to spark joy – they are pink or there is glitter, so naturally, the suitcases fill themselves.

Of course, a good dose of tea and cake is crucial to maintaining a good energy level for a girl like me! And, wouldn't you know it, Harrow has an entire bakery called The Pink Pig! The perfect place for a tutu queen like me to find inspiration! It has beautiful handmade cakes and pastries - they all must have glitter and are all different colours of pink - pink macaroons, pink iced cupcakes and oh, the pastries – they are to die for. I do love a pastry that gives you all that sugar rush! And the perfect opportunity for a delightful snap to upload on to my social media. Who doesn't like a photo of pink food in front of a pink-dressed drag queen. I know I certainly love to see it, if you know what I mean! 😉

So, if you’re looking for the perfect pink adventure, pack your own sparkly essentials (and maybe a spare pink tutu – just in case), and hop on down to Harrow, darlings!

There’s nothing like getting your sparkle on and experiencing all that Harrow has to offer!

Don’t forget to pop over to my website, www.pink-tutu.com for the full story and all the fabulous snaps!
