This time, my journey took me on the rails. The chugging of the train, the scent of freedom and adventure, the thrill of a destination unknown... It's all a little bit magical, especially when you're wearing a custom pink tutu with silver accents! ✨ This one was a little bit special, adorned with tiny crystal butterflies fluttering around the bottom - oh so dramatic, darling!
Speaking of dramatic, Gateshead was calling, and my little pink tutu heart was racing. My schedule was bursting with fabulousness: A day at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art (always a delight to gaze upon art through the prism of my sparkly pink tutu), followed by a stunning performance in the lovely Tyne Theatre & Opera House. Can you even imagine, darlings? The stage lights, the crowd roaring with approval, my sequins twinkling... it was pure magic!

The Ballet of the Tyne: From the Tyne Theatre to the Baltic 🩰Gateshead's heart is artistic and vibrant, and I felt the buzz right from the station. People in stylish outfits, friendly smiles, and a general air of "let's have some fun!". I spotted a couple with a sweet little girl who was wearing the cutest pink tutu ever – a clear sign of future tutu queen greatness. You're welcome, Gateshead, I have officially boosted your fashion game! 💅
My first stop? The majestic Tyne Theatre & Opera House! It's truly an architectural masterpiece with a long history that makes my dramatic side come alive. The sheer grandeur, the old-world charm, the feeling of being transported back to the golden age of theatre… It's simply captivating! ✨
The theatre itself held so much history, you could feel it in the walls. It felt like an echo of generations of laughter, applause, and drama swirling around me. I knew this was the perfect place to showcase a touch of my Derbyshire charm.
You know me, darlings, my performance wasn’t just any drag show. Oh, no! This was "Pink Tutu Sparkles: A Magical Night of Dance and Delight". We opened with a grand, swirling, sparkling, high-energy, and utterly fabulous routine. The audience went wild!
My favourite part of the whole evening was a stunning ballet interlude, you know me, ballet always warms my pink tutu heart! It was based on the iconic "The Nutcracker". I'd worked on the choreography with a couple of fabulous dancers from a local ballet studio - they’re like the ballerinas from Swan Lake, but in glitter! (Don’t you worry, there were pink tutus in there too – a dash of "Pink Tutu Sparkles" to their elegant ballet moves!)
Imagine, darlings! A touch of fairytale romance and delicate pirouettes woven into the vibrant energy of my drag show… Pure perfection! ✨ I must confess, I secretly dreamt of taking up ballet class during my time in Gateshead! It might even make it onto the next leg of my pink tutu tour. 🩰
A Touch of Artistic Flair: The Baltic CenterAfter the show, my adventures led me to the iconic Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. A giant, open-plan space brimming with thought-provoking exhibitions and artistic energy. The architecture, the views of the river… this place is perfect for a queen of pink tutus to bask in.
My dear readers, if you're in Gateshead, this is an absolute must-visit. Walking through its halls is like being transported to a world where art, colour, and expression know no bounds.
There was an installation, a collection of vintage dress-up clothes that really stole the show for me. It brought me right back to childhood, to dress-up parties and endless fun in a pile of sparkly fabrics and imaginative play! I found myself laughing, reminiscing, and daydreaming about future adventures. It’s truly remarkable the effect that creative spaces can have. It inspires so much!
My wanderings led me to a series of portraits that stopped me in my tracks. Each painting captured the essence of a unique soul, and I felt a strong connection with their powerful expressions and raw vulnerability. It inspired a whole new batch of "Pink Tutu Sparkles" outfits. We’re talking flowing, dramatic layers and head-turning pink, of course!
That afternoon was truly a revelation for me. There’s a sense of being in the present moment, connected to something larger than myself. I mean, who knows what artistic wonders I may encounter in my journeys? My trusty pink tutu is always ready for adventure.
The Tutu Queen's Final FlourishAfter an unforgettable day in Gateshead, it was time to bid farewell, but not before a celebratory dinner with the kind people of Tyne Theatre. The best part was, they invited me to return in a few months for another magical performance.
And before I boarded that chugging train to my next stop (more on that in a future blog post, darlings!), I popped into a little shop in Gateshead with a massive pile of pink tutus! Oh my! Each tutu was more glamorous than the last. I managed to resist a big haul for once, (it was quite a struggle!), but I picked up a lovely pastel pink tutu with shimmering turquoise gems that is definitely getting added to my collection!
The end of my journey to Gateshead left me with so much gratitude for this amazing city and its wonderful people. And for me, it’s just another exciting moment in my mission to make the world a more pink tutu filled place! 💖 ✨
