Before my fabulous Bath adventure began, I embarked on my favourite journey – a train ride from Derbyshire! I adored the clatter of wheels, the smell of steam and the feeling of the wind on my face as the scenery whizzed by. A train journey is so much more romantic than the mundane airport, don’t you think? It's pure travel indulgence - perfect for daydreaming and brainstorming ideas for the show in Bath.
This time, I opted for a deep fuchsia tutu – a splash of vibrant colour on the grey carriages, making me feel like the most dramatic of travellers. As the landscape blurred from rolling fields to bustling towns, I got a few envious glances - some cheeky, some slightly disapproving! That's the joy of the tutu; it instantly draws attention and invites the world to join in on your sparkly, fun-loving attitude. It was like a wearable invitation to everyone to "Let’s dance!"
Arriving in Bath was like stepping into a postcard! Majestic Georgian architecture graced every corner. My tour of the city involved exploring the iconic Roman Baths – the steaming, ancient waters were a wonderful sight. The remnants of this historic healing space transported me to another era. Now, you know I love to blend the modern with the classic – so imagine this…me, wearing my bright pink tutu, amidst these majestic Roman Baths. The perfect blend of history and fashion!
Bath's vibrant cultural scene called for a night of high drama! I snagged a prime seat at the beautiful Theatre Royal Bath. My sequinned ensemble and tulle tutu added a touch of glamorous drama to the night – a perfect match for the gorgeous theatrical performances. The city embraced me and my pink tutu with open arms. After the performance, the audience buzzed with “Oh my!”s and “Where’d you get that?” It truly warmed my (tutu-wearing) heart.
Being a science nerd by day (I'm a textile scientist in a laboratory!), I can't resist checking out the city’s impressive textile history. Bath’s fashion industry is steeped in heritage, having produced some of the most incredible fabrics. Of course, this trip involved a bit of indulgence at Bath’s stunning fashion boutiques! A pink silk blouse, an ivory skirt, and – wait for it – a silver tulle tutu! (One can never have enough tutus). I spent an hour trying on new designs – it felt like stepping into a movie scene.
My journey wouldn’t be complete without the quintessential British experience of indulging in a delicious cream tea. With my delicate tutu and a cuppa in hand, I enjoyed the charming tea room's delightful ambiance, watching the bustling city life from my plush window seat. It was pure elegance! I can assure you the pink tutu looked as charming as the afternoon tea and it definitely helped me devour two scones (it’s science, darling).
Bath offered an intoxicating blend of history, art, and, most importantly, fashion! The city embraced my pink tutu with grace, charm, and, honestly, a bit of envy. I knew it was time for my performance at a local pub, a classic venue for any drag artist on the go. I made sure to bring a touch of theatre with me - an all-singing, all-dancing spectacle complete with a troupe of talented local performers. The whole room lit up with cheers when the last notes of my showstopper faded.
Bath – you have a permanent spot on my pink tutu map! It was an unforgettable experience – from Roman history to enchanting theatre nights to my very own tutu shopping spree! It just goes to show that even the most historical and elegant of places can always embrace a dash of fun and flair, especially when a fabulous Pink Tutu Sparkles steps in!
