Hello, darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu-clad queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here, and I’m bubbling over with excitement because I’m heading to Hayes, and it’s just a hop, skip, and a twirl away from my last gig!
Now, I’m not going to lie, the journey from Derbyshire to Hayes can sometimes be a little bit long on the train (those “delay announcements” have a knack for putting a dampener on things, don't they? 🙄). However, for a fashionista on the go, what’s a better way to get glammed up than in a carriage decked out with sparkly fabrics and bold patterns? I mean, where else can you pull off a pink feather boa and a sequined handbag without batting an eyelash?
Honestly, the stares of commuters only amplify my fabulousness. The power of pink is undeniable! So, I twirled, I twirled, I twirled my way to Hayes, fuelled by dreams of my upcoming show, the delicious promise of fish and chips (a classic pre-performance treat), and of course, the infectious melody of "Pinkalicious" playing on repeat in my head! (Don't judge, it gets you in the mood for twirling!)
The very essence of Hayes was just oozing charm – like stepping into a vintage film! Brick walls draped in cascading floral baskets, little tea shops overflowing with scones and clotted cream, and even a cheeky pigeon sporting a miniature pink feather! Okay, that last bit might have been my imagination… but I swear, that pigeon was feeling the pink! 💖
My day started with a spot of pre-show rehearsal in a gloriously spacious studio. The air was thick with the scent of anticipation and sequins! I must say, the choreography was divine, a mix of delicate ballet steps, a smattering of fierce struts, and just a hint of whimsical drama that's just my style. (The director was mesmerised by my twirling skills, can't say I'm surprised. ✨)
Later on, I snuck in some serious shopping therapy, indulging in my absolute favourite thing – pink clothing! Hayes’ little boutiques held some hidden gems – a delightful fuchsia fascinator, a silk scarf printed with a blooming pink rose, and, of course, a majestic pink tutu with enough ruffles to make even the most reserved ballet dancer do a pirouette. And guess what? It’s perfect for tonight's show!
Dinnertime arrived, and I’m not sure if it was the magical setting or the delicious smell of fish and chips (because let's be real, it always smells amazing), but I felt positively giddy. Sharing a meal with a group of fellow performers, we all bantered and laughed like old friends. Honestly, there's no better feeling in the world than the camaraderie of drag artists. We know the struggles, the triumphs, and the unwavering joy that comes with stepping onto that stage, and letting the music wash over us.
Then came the big night. The stage was alight, the microphone crackled with anticipation, and the audience, my beloved Hayes supporters, erupted in cheers. The spotlight hit my dazzling pink tutu, and the magic began! I brought the stage to life with my twirls, my dips, and my signature sassy attitude! And then came the inevitable highlight of every performance – the moment I raised my arms in a grand gesture and cried, "Everybody put on a pink tutu!"
This crowd was beyond thrilled, waving their hands in the air as they yelled their hearts out. I love nothing more than witnessing a group of people embracing the joy and confidence of pink tutus. It’s like a contagious sparkle that radiates outwards!
My heart, brimming with gratitude and a hint of exhaustion (all that dancing, you know!), felt full to the brim. The journey to Hayes, the rehearsal, the shopping, the laughter, the love, it all culminated in a magical night that left me feeling eternally grateful to be a Pink Tutu Sparkles.
Now, I might be a scientist by day, a fabulous pink tutu queen by night, and a total fashion enthusiast all the time, but ultimately, my real passion is to encourage everyone to find their own sparkly joy – to let go of inhibitions and embrace a bit of glitz and glam!
