Highbury is a delightful little corner of the world, and I have to say, I absolutely adore the area's energy! There's such a lovely, vibrant community here that makes me want to dance in the streets! The cobbled streets, quaint cafes, and charming little boutiques really had my heart fluttering! Oh, and don't even get me started on the architecture, absolutely dreamy! 🏛️
This week has been a whirl of tutus and taffeta, and I've packed more than just my suitcase with delightful experiences. From performing on stage in the beautiful theatre to spending a magical day at the ballet, I've really felt at home here. 💖 I always feel right at home on a stage in a fabulous pink tutu! 🥰

Tutus and Thespians in Highbury!
My adventure started at the Highbury Theatre, where I had the pleasure of performing for a wonderful audience. ✨ I absolutely love sharing the stage and bringing joy to people through my drag persona, it's a real privilege! The stage was so beautiful - all gilded and majestic, and they even had a twinkling star backdrop! 🤩 Of course, I was twirling in a new tutu, a pink masterpiece with shimmering silver sequins and fluffy feather trims that I found at a little vintage shop in London's Soho! It was absolutely perfect for a dramatic grand finale! 💅
And oh my goodness, the crowd went wild! It was truly electric! 🎉 I swear I saw at least a hundred phones in the air at the peak of my performance, people were living for my rendition of 'Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend' in my fabulous silver sequined top and matching tulle skirt! ✨ You can catch the highlights on my social media pages, by the way. Ballet Bliss: The Grace of Highbury
The next day, I went to see a ballet performance in the grand, old, beautiful Highbury Theatre - a real, classic Victorian Theatre building. It's just breathtaking. I loved the whole experience; it was the perfect day out! The music was divine, the dancers were all so talented and elegant - it took me to another world, a realm of beautiful movement and delicate artistry. 💕 I had been planning to go to this show for weeks now - it's called "Cinderella." And let me tell you, the costume for Cinderella, a stunning white ball gown with sparkling diamanté details, just made me want to twirl and dance! 🥰
As for my own ensemble for this magical afternoon, I'd have to say my fluffy pink tutu, a masterpiece made of hand-stitched feathers and intricate tulle layering, was an absolute showstopper! 🤩 It truly made me feel like a real princess, especially when paired with my glittery ballet flats. 💕 Of course, I brought a beautiful ballet bag (that also went wonderfully with my outfit) and an intricately carved and decorated wooden walking stick that made me feel just like a proper, elegant Victorian lady. 🎩
After the performance, I popped in to a local tea shop for a cup of Darjeeling and a bite of their famous Victoria sponge cake, then it was back to my beautiful hotel to change into a new, glittery, fabulous evening outfit - so glamorous and gorgeous - all pink, with sequins, feathers and bows! 💃 That night, I was off to a fun little pub to watch the live music with some of my Highbury theatre friends - so much fun! We even had a spontaneous little dance party in the middle of the pub! 🍻 It's been amazing!
Travel in Style
Of course, no Pink Tutu Sparkles journey is complete without an exciting journey! I chose to travel to Highbury via the railway. My favourite kind of travelling - something about trains that inspires me! This trip, I made it even more special by taking the luxury train, a beautiful old-fashioned railway carriage with mahogany seats and little windows where you could see the stunning rolling English countryside. 🛤️
It’s all in the details for me, and even though the journey is just a day's trip by rail from my home in Derbyshire, I still made sure to pack a fabulous bag - it was absolutely beautiful, in a hot pink, sparkly faux-crocodile skin, with all the fixings: enough room to store a costume change or two. 👜 And, naturally, I put on my newest dazzling Pink Tutu Sparkles tiara, to look like royalty while traveling! 💖👑 The other passengers really seemed to love it, it added some colour and energy to a long, rather grey afternoon in a train compartment! They even stopped for a little photoshoot for Instagram and Tiktok. ✨
I actually met one of my Highbury friends on the train, too! I mean, really, we all know there’s no other way to travel if you’re going for the dramatic. And as I found out, if you wear a spectacular, dazzling tiara you are practically guaranteed to get new friends - everyone stops to chat! 😁
I'm a true advocate for making everyday life feel magical. I mean, if a bit of sparkle and whimsy can make someone's day brighter, why not?💖 My motto is "spread the sparkle"! 💕
Fashion, Fun and Friendships in Highbury
This week has been filled with such joy and delightful discoveries. It wasn't just the theatres and the music that captivated me. Highbury really felt like a playground of vibrant shops with exquisite window displays, tempting cafes where I found some irresistible lavender cupcakes and macarons, and charming local markets selling handmade items and delicious cheeses! 😋 There was just so much to see!
On my travels through Highbury I saw more tutus than ever before, and even managed to meet some wonderful women, all rocking pink and tulle like the absolute divas they are! 🙌 And guess what?! Some of them actually offered to buy me a cup of tea after my show! ☕️ That just made me melt. It was like my entire dream came true! 💖 I'm all about connecting with like-minded souls and creating beautiful memories together.
Even the kids got in on the tutu action, all giggling and dancing with me! They looked so happy and radiant, and that just makes me smile! It reminded me that it’s never too early or too late to spread a little love, joy, and a lot of pink tutu magic. ✨ I truly believe that the world needs more of this! 💖 A lot more tutus. 💖
A Word from the Science Lab (and My Pink Tutu Closet) 💖
And now, I'm back to my usual life: scientist by day, fabulous drag queen by night. It's the perfect balance for me - all the serious, meticulous science with the playful sparkle and glitz of drag! Honestly, I never feel more comfortable in the laboratory, working with fabrics, than when I’m testing fabrics to choose the perfect tutus to be wearing! 🤩
