Today, we're going full-on Maidstone Magic. As a fellow Derbyshire lass, it's been an absolute joy to return to the southeast, my stomping grounds when I was just a wee Pink Tutu in training! 🩰
The train journey itself was a fabulously fashionable affair. I wore my new cherry-pink tweed coat with a matching hat (with a delicate pink feather, of course!) and a shocking pink tutu that swished beautifully with every turn. The train ride is always so scenic, and the passengers loved the show.
But Maidstone had some real treasures in store for me! You see, this was no ordinary visit. It wasn't just about performing – I was also indulging my insatiable passion for ballet. It was an absolutely magical week!
From Tutus to Taps: A Whirlwind of Dance
As you all know, I'm obsessed with anything and everything dance. I mean, you can't get a pink tutu lover out of a dance studio without breaking the lock, can you?! So, imagine my excitement when I stumbled upon the 'Maidstone Ballet Centre' - a beautiful studio with stained glass windows, wood floors, and a warm and welcoming atmosphere!
Their upcoming performance of The Sleeping Beauty was just perfection. The choreography was intricate and captivating, the music filled with an enchanting symphony, and the costumes - oh darling! They had so many magnificent tutus! 🩰✨ It almost made me wish I had taken up the ballet full time. But then I remember the sheer joy of performing in my own unique, fabulous style, and my heart leaps for the stage again!
It wasn't just the professional performances that impressed me this trip. The Maidstone Ballet School hosted an open class, where anyone could join in and learn a new routine! I absolutely adored it! It was just my cuppa - sharing my love for dance with new faces. It didn't matter if they had never touched a ballet shoe in their lives; every single one of them wore their heart on their sleeves, and the joy was contagious.
By the end of the class, I felt like I was part of a huge, pink-tutu loving family! It was such a joyous, uplifting experience. You know me - it's my mission to spread the joy and sparkle wherever I go, and this day was nothing short of phenomenal.
From Ballroom to Ballgown: A Fashion Frenzy
But the adventure didn't end there! This visit to Maidstone had a special mission in mind – shopping! As I was feeling so inspired, I just had to treat myself to some new accessories for my upcoming performance in Kent!
Now, there's nothing quite like the feeling of slipping on a perfectly tailored garment - that exhilarating feeling of feeling your very best. And that is what makes Maidstone so special, its independent boutiques are simply divine.
I spent an entire day scouring the cobbled streets, a dazzling, twirling symphony in pink, on a quest for the most fabulous feathered boa and sequinned shoes. The experience was like stepping back in time, with friendly faces, beautiful displays, and a genuine passion for everything beautiful. I managed to pick up a few amazing additions for my stage wardrobe and some delightful little gems for everyday wear.
Maidstone Mayhem: Performances Galore!
Oh, and the shows! How can I forget the absolute thrill of performing for the lovely people of Maidstone?
Every show has its own unique atmosphere. In Maidstone, the energy was fantastic! From the charming pub where I performed my burlesque set to the vibrant cabaret stage at the Maidstone Arts Centre, every performance felt truly special.
What I loved most was how receptive everyone was to my unique pink-tutu style. Even the gentlest soul who may not be accustomed to a little sparkle and a lot of pink couldn’t help but be won over by my act. There’s nothing more rewarding than spreading joy through dance, laughter, and a sprinkle of pure, unapologetic sparkle!
It's times like this that truly reaffirm why I do what I do. My mission, as you all know, is to get everyone to embrace the joy of dressing up, dancing, and just having a blast! My mission, in essence, is to bring the Pink Tutu Power to every corner of the world.
This week, the magic of Maidstone truly infused me with new inspiration. This town reminds me of the power of a smile, the beauty of a dance, and the importance of embracing our unique, vibrant selves. And trust me, you can find this inspiration all across the UK!
A Message From Alex (The Science Scientist)
But even amidst the dazzling world of glitter, feathers, and twirling, it's always a bit grounding to talk to the man behind the makeup: Alex.
Even though I spend most of my time thinking about what shade of pink to wear next or what sparkly sequins will complement my current tutu, I’m still very much a scientist at heart! In fact, you’ll find me working away in my lab, analysing textiles - from the finest silk to the toughest denim.
By day I'm exploring the world of fabrics, and by night I'm transporting everyone to a world of fantasy and wonder with my drag persona. You can imagine what kind of textile I am most fascinated by! Yes, tutu, of course! It’s fascinating to break down a garment like a tutu to its most basic form. Each layer, the fabric type, the embroidery - everything is fascinating to me, in both my science and drag life.
It might seem like two very different worlds, but you know, the joy and wonder I feel while analysing fabrics is not so different from the feeling I experience when designing a new costume or performing on stage. The feeling of creating, experimenting, and bringing something special to life is exactly the same.
And maybe that’s the true Pink Tutu magic! ✨ You don’t need to be on stage to bring a little glitter and fun to your world. It's all about embracing who you are, taking a chance, and adding your own touch of sparkle to everything you do. Whether you're designing a science experiment, choreographing a new routine, or simply deciding what shade of pink you want to wear today, let that sparkle be your guiding star.
