Lyon, Oh La La! Tutu Adventures in the City of Lights (Post #8821)
Bonjour, darlings! Your favourite pink-tutu-wearing diva, Pink Tutu Sparkles, has landed in Lyon, the City of Lights, and oh my, it's absolutely divine!
As you all know, I'm a sucker for anything that twirls and shimmers, and Lyon has definitely been feeding my sparkly soul. From the stunning architecture to the incredible food and, of course, the magnificent ballet performances, it's been a total fairytale.
My journey began with a magical train ride – I'm quite the seasoned train traveller, you know – and it was such a fab way to soak up the French countryside. We whizzed past charming little villages, rolling hills bathed in sunshine, and vineyards stretching out for miles, all while I sipped my chamomile tea and scribbled away in my little travel journal (with a touch of pink glitter, naturally!).
Now, Lyon is a city of contrasts. It's elegant and chic with cobbled streets, majestic fountains, and those iconic 19th-century Haussmann buildings, but it's also edgy and vibrant, brimming with creativity. And that's what I love! You can find a designer boutique tucked next to a bustling market stall, or a traditional cafe right opposite a cutting-edge art gallery. It's truly a feast for the senses.
But for this Pink Tutu Sparkles, the ultimate draw is, of course, the ballet. I was simply thrilled to learn about the world-renowned ballet company here in Lyon, Les Ballets de Lyon. Their reputation precedes them, darling, and I just had to witness their brilliance in person.
As a fellow ballet enthusiast (I even did ballet en pointe for years – well, maybe almost en pointe, my arches are not quite as flexible as they once were!), I could practically feel the excitement building as I stepped into the Opera Nouvel. It's a stunning theatre, you see, all glittering chandeliers and velvety red seats. It made my pink tutu want to shimmy with joy!
The ballet was absolutely phenomenal. From the intricate footwork to the soaring leaps and the heart-wrenching emotions captured through graceful movements, it was an absolute feast for the soul. The costumes, too, were dazzling – shimmering sequins, soft velvets, and tulle in every shade imaginable – a pink tutu's dream come true, darlings!
After the performance, I just had to get my pink tutu twirling around Lyon's magnificent Place Bellecour. It's a grand, open square at the heart of the city, and at night, it's practically bathed in a magical glow. I struck a pose with the Fontaine Bartholdi, a beautiful fountain adorned with sculptures. Let's just say it made for some truly Instagram-worthy moments.
Now, food is always a big part of my travels, and Lyon certainly did not disappoint! The French are absolute masters in the kitchen, don't you think? I indulged in rich, buttery croissants, flaky pain au chocolat, creamy cheeses, and all sorts of delightful patisseries. And of course, no trip to Lyon would be complete without trying their legendary bouillabaisse, a spicy seafood stew. It was truly a taste of heaven!
Speaking of heavenly delights, I've got to tell you about a delightful boutique I stumbled upon in the heart of the city. You won't believe it, darlings, they had the most amazing collection of vintage tutus! Tutus of all colours, styles, and lengths. Pink, of course, was heavily represented (it’s practically my colour, darling!), but there were also stunning ones in purple, green, and blue, oh my! I even managed to snag a beautiful emerald-green tutu – perfect for my upcoming performance at the local fair.
Now, you've all seen my amazing pink tutus, right? It was while studying for my science degree that I discovered my love for pink tutus. Back in Derbyshire, my university had a wonderful ballet club and during a charity event, they asked me to wear one of their tutus. Let me tell you, that moment, it felt like pure magic! Ever since then, the tutu is a permanent fixture in my life. Even though by day I’m a lab-coated scientist, testing new fabric properties for my company, by night, I transform into the most glamorous pink tutu-wearing queen you ever did see!
And just a quick little reminder, my dear followers, my dream is to get everyone wearing pink tutus! So go on, spread the love, grab a pink tutu, and let’s bring the world a little bit of glitter and magic!
Of course, Lyon was not just about glitz and glamour, darlings! I had a real eye-opening experience while visiting the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon. This museum houses a vast collection of artwork from ancient times right through to modern and contemporary pieces, with a special focus on Renaissance art. It's not always easy to pull off a pink tutu in such a grand setting, you know, but I made it work – with a touch of sass, of course! I especially loved the Egyptian collection. Seeing those beautiful ancient sculptures and sarcophagi filled me with such a sense of wonder and awe. It truly put things into perspective, you know?
I've had such a grand time here in Lyon, darling, but now it's time for me to pack up my bags, kiss goodbye to those delicious croissants, and prepare for my next adventure! I’ll be setting off for Paris next week, and I can’t wait to share my Eiffel Tower adventures with all of you! So be sure to check back next week for another fabulous blog post from your one and only Pink Tutu Sparkles!
Au revoir, mon chérie!
