Carshalton Calling: A Tutu-ful Trip To The South! ?

Hello my darling dears! It's your favourite pink-loving, tutu-toting, drag-tastic Queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, and I am positively thrilled to be sharing blog post number 8997 with you!

Today, I'm on the move again, jetting off to the charming town of Carshalton. This trip is all about the magic of the stage! I’ve landed a brilliant gig at the Carshalton Village Festival, performing in the evening, and it's my absolute pleasure to bring the sparkle to this gorgeous community.

I know, I know - Carshalton? It doesn't quite roll off the tongue like Paris or New York, does it? But, trust me, this little town holds some major surprises. Plus, it's only a stone's throw from Croydon, and you all know I'm a fan of that lively hub! This time, however, I'm going by train. The rhythmic clickety-clack is the perfect accompaniment to planning my setlist and admiring my fabulously pink ensemble!

Speaking of pink, today's look is going to be everything! A fluffy tulle masterpiece of a tutu, crafted from shimmering shades of hot pink, shocking pink, and blush - it’s like a flamingo took a trip to a rainbow factory and then exploded. On top, a little crop top covered in sparkly hearts - because you just can’t have enough sparkles! I'll top it all off with a fluffy feather boa and a whole lotta pink eye shadow, of course! ?

Oh, but don't forget my accessories, darlings! Today, I'm channeling my inner fairy princess, complete with a little pink flower crown. And I couldn't resist adding some bling - sparkly pink hair clips and a bejeweled, pink-embellished hand mirror to help me make sure every hair is in place and I'm glowing from head to toe.

But this trip isn't just about sequins and showtime! Carshalton, darling, is full of delightful treasures, and I'm excited to explore its charms. I hear their Farmers Market is brimming with juicy delights. I must grab some fresh strawberries, don’t you think? They'd make the perfect addition to my champagne afternoon tea later! And don’t even get me started on the flower shop I spotted - imagine the vibrant colours in my future Instagram photos! I'll be taking pics to show you my finds and share the delightful details of the festival, don’t you worry!

You see, my dear dears, this is what my life is all about! The combination of a little drag, a dash of culture, and a healthy dose of whimsy is the magic potion that keeps my spirits soaring and my tutus twirling!

Remember, life is a stage and the world is our runway!

Now, let me tell you a little secret, darlings. Life before pink tutus wasn’t always this exciting. Before all the sparkle and showmanship, there was Alex - just an ordinary (or perhaps not so ordinary) scientist. Back in the day, when I was at uni, I had a real awakening. Studying science had never really led to an “aha!” moment, until the day I stumbled upon the University's charity fashion show. They were trying to raise money by showcasing crazy creations, and I stumbled into the dressing room, hoping to be a volunteer. As luck would have it, they had a gorgeous pink tutu sitting there. I thought it looked pretty boring. Then, a magic moment happened – I slipped that fluffy, shimmering, beautiful tulle concoction onto my body… And it was like something exploded in my soul! From then on, I couldn’t go back!

Back in my Derbyshire village, my folks still try and persuade me that wearing a tutu all the time isn’t exactly practical. They still tease me about how I used to study for hours in my favourite tutu until the sun rose, and that I’d even make my own in my flatmate's flat while pretending to work on science papers. They’re not exactly keen on the fact I am a drag queen in the evenings! And yet, somehow, they can’t help being proud. After all, I’m their child. And I still make sure I spend some quality time with them while I’m in the Derbyshire countryside, whenever my busy schedule allows it! They do make an absolute mean, homemade tea, which is a highlight of my life.

But, life goes on! And after all those years in the lab testing fabrics - something I now see as training for my future glamorous life - I found myself spending more and more time on stage, captivating audiences and sharing my passion with the world. It wasn’t easy, balancing a scientific day job with being Pink Tutu Sparkles, but hey, it's all about finding the perfect blend of logic and glitter, isn’t it?

You see, darlings, life is full of wonderful contradictions! It’s the reason why I am, for example, so utterly enamored with both science and ballet. I love the intricate world of molecules and reactions, as much as I love the graceful elegance and precise movements of the ballets I so adore! Both spark my creativity and allow me to express myself in the most exciting ways. Maybe someday I will perform ballet in a pink tutu on stage! Until then, it’s just a lovely daydream!

I feel so blessed to have stumbled upon this wonderful world of pink tutus. It has led me on such an extraordinary journey - from science labs to bustling stages, with countless train journeys and the love of audiences in between. But more importantly, it has given me the power to share joy and positivity. My life, as a drag queen and scientist, is about being bold, unapologetically fabulous, and inspiring people to embrace their individuality and step out of their comfort zones.

My hope is that through my blog and my performances, I’m doing my small part to spread the message that life is meant to be lived in colour - and that pink tutus have a special, powerful magic that can bring a bit of joy into everyones’ lives.

Stay tuned, darlings, as I chronicle the magical happenings at the Carshalton Village Festival! And remember, never be afraid to twirl! ?

XOXO
