Gateshead: A Tutu-ific Time!
#TutuQueen Blog Post #9073
Hello my gorgeous darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu-wearing drag queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, and I’m buzzing to tell you all about my latest adventure in the fabulous city of Gateshead! This journey has been a true whirlwind of colour, sparkles, and tutus, all rolled into one spectacular extravaganza. As usual, I opted for the most fabulous method of transport – a magnificent horse drawn carriage! The clip-clop of the hooves and the gentle sway of the carriage created a magical atmosphere as I journeyed to Gateshead, already feeling like a princess in my dazzling pink tutu.
But before I spill the tea on Gateshead itself, I have to tell you about my journey! My day started in my home town of Derbyshire. I do love a good Derbyshire Bakewell tart but I’m no country bumpkin, you know. After a breakfast of tea, crumpets and, of course, my usual two spoonfuls of pink frosting (pink is my colour, darlings!), it was time for the daily pre-show rituals – full glam, my signature pink glitter eyeliner, and a final adjustment to my fabulous pink tutu.
You might think it's a bit much, travelling with my stage clothes everywhere, but hey, that's life as Pink Tutu Sparkles! Every day's a chance to spread the sparkle and inspire others to embrace their inner tutu-wearing self. So, I'm always ready to transform any setting into a stage, from my home lab (yes, I'm a scientist by day!) to a train station platform.
This time, I opted for the train! I mean, what’s more glam than riding in first class? As I glided through the countryside, surrounded by fellow travellers (and admiring gazes!), it was like a mini fashion show. Everyone was loving the fabulous pink tutu, which really cheered up a gloomy day, if I do say so myself. Honestly, you can never be too flamboyant in life, and let's face it, my sparkly persona brings sunshine wherever I go.
Gateshead, what a sight to behold! My heart skipped a beat as I stepped out of the train station. The vibrant street art, the beautiful Tyne Bridge, and the charming cobbled streets immediately got me into the right mood. I'm such a fan of historical cities - they have so much character, don't you think? But there's always a touch of magic in modern places like Gateshead.
I had to embrace the fabulousness of the local culture, of course. My first stop was at the renowned Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art! I mean, what's more fabulous than art? Only art that makes me want to twirl in my pink tutu, which is exactly what happened! It was the perfect mix of colour and creativity. They even had this super interesting exhibit all about the history of tutus, which was truly inspiring! Imagine that - an entire exhibition dedicated to tutus, it was like being in my own personal heaven! I felt like I was home.
After a lunch break consisting of the most divine Gateshead-made ice cream - and you guessed it, a pink scoop for me - I hit the stage at a lovely local theatre. My performance was a blast. The audience went wild, and everyone, from young to old, were loving the tutu and the pink sparkle. It’s great to share a message of self-acceptance and positivity, and it truly makes me feel like my mission of inspiring everyone to embrace their own inner tutu-wearer is taking off.
But, this isn't a trip for work only, it's a journey for pleasure, too! There's no pink tutu party without a visit to a ballet class, right? I've been working on my pliés and pirouettes at the beautiful Northern Ballet School. Let me tell you, those young ballerinas are incredible! Their precision and grace are so inspiring. But don't worry, darlings, I still had time for a solo turn, rocking my favourite pink tutu with a sprinkle of sparkle on the floor!
Of course, any Pink Tutu Sparkles adventure isn't complete without a dash of fashion shopping! Gateshead didn’t disappoint. I found the most amazing little vintage boutique nestled in a backstreet – like a hidden gem. It was filled with stunning dresses, jackets, and oh my goodness, the shoe selection was incredible! Naturally, I snagged a new pair of glittering heels for my next performance, just a small accessory to go with my beloved tutu.
In the evenings, Gateshead turned into a wonderland of music and entertainment. My ears were blessed by the glorious sounds of street performers and live bands. The streets buzzed with excitement, filled with locals and tourists, all eager to experience the magic of this wonderful city. And it made my heart sing.
Now, every great story has a finale, right? Mine concluded with a bang (and some confetti, naturally). I had a fabulous time at the Northern Stage for a show, surrounded by friends, laughter, and, you guessed it, pink tutus galore. The atmosphere was electric and everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time. I even had a few brave souls from the audience try on my tutu for a fun little photo opportunity – I'm so proud to say my mission to bring joy through tutus is taking over the world one person at a time.
But wait, there's more! One thing I learnt while visiting this fantastic city is how the local community takes part in their traditions and festivals. For instance, I discovered a beautiful local ballet street dance troupe performing right outside the shopping centre. Their energetic dance routine had the entire square captivated, from little children to elderly folks - all clapping along! You could truly feel the connection, and how passionate they were about bringing their art form to the masses. It reminded me that no matter how grand the stage may be, it's the passion we bring to any platform that shines brightest, and truly unites us.
The city of Gateshead has truly left an impression on my little pink tutu-loving heart. It's a city with character, culture, and kindness. The people of Gateshead embraced me with open arms (and even offered some of those lovely Geordie biscuits – you have to try them!) My biggest tip for visiting? Just let yourself go! Wear that fabulous outfit, embrace the quirky art installations, get involved in the lively local scene. After all, life's a stage, and we're all in it to have a good time, darlings!
So until next time, keep twirling, stay fabulous, and never be afraid to wear that pink tutu.
Love,
Pink Tutu Sparkles!
