Hello, darlings! It’s your girl, Pink Tutu Sparkles, back with another blog post, this one hot off the press (and smelling a bit of train station, as it was written on the way here!) from glorious Grays. This is blog post number 9124 for me, you know the drill – Pink-tastic adventures with a side of sparkles and a sprinkle of tutu-mania. 😉
Now, Grays! What a pink-tastic surprise this little gem turned out to be. I’d been daydreaming about the place for ages, hearing all about it through the ballet grapevine – a town bursting with the love of dance and performance, and let me tell you, it certainly didn’t disappoint. You guys are like the crème de la crème of the dance scene!
I landed in Grays right on time for a magical performance at the stunning Grays Theatre, (can we take a moment for how amazing this venue is? The architecture is just chef’s kiss) with an absolutely to die for production of “The Nutcracker” – with a glorious twist! The local ballet company added their own flair, bringing in a bit of contemporary energy to the choreography. It was absolutely delightful – a right pink-tastic blend of tradition and innovation. 💖
After the performance, I whizzed off to The Dance Academy (those gorgeous folks who were sponsoring the “Nutcracker”), all the way on a big, shiny horse-drawn carriage – such a dream! It felt like stepping out of a fairytale. It was all very “Pink Tutu Sparkles” and I could not be happier. 😄
I snuck into the ballet class at the Dance Academy (I don't mind saying, these girls are incredibly talented!) – who knew I would have a fellow pink tutu-ophile at the studio! Miss Betty – what a fab character! She's a ballerina in her 80s and absolutely radiates with love for the dance. Betty tells me there was a time when Grays was a hotbed of fancy-dress and elaborate dance displays, even the local pubs and restaurants had stage shows in the evenings! I mean, imagine – the whole town twirling, strutting and sparkling, in a pink tutu. 🤯 It sounds like pure pink-tastic heaven! It seems Betty is on a mission to revive that magic and that she is, and I am going to help her make it happen! 🤩
So of course, being Pink Tutu Sparkles, I made it my mission to find the very pink-est things in Grays and believe me, this town has got style. It has the biggest, most stunning, most magnificent pink department store (and I know a bit about pink department stores! Ahem – Derbyshire does have an epic selection. 😄 ) But let me tell you, Grays took the pink crown! Everything about this store screamed "Pink Tutu Sparkles" and that pink tulle section? Oh my! It’s practically illegal how much amazingness that place had.
After a bit of shopping, (I couldn’t help but bring a new pink-tastic tutu – my little dance outfit never hurt no one, right? winks), I indulged in a delectable slice of pink-tinted raspberry cake, sitting outside the gracious Pink Pagoda restaurant with my new Grays pal Betty. She shared with me stories upon stories of this extraordinary little town, its history and its spirit – and all the while I felt a growing pink-tastic excitement for its future!
Of course, no trip is complete without a trip to a lovely little charity shop! Let’s just say I found some perfectly pink finds to add to my collection, perfect for those special stage outfits. It’s all in the name of sparkle! 😄
Now, you know I adore to discover local talent and in Grays, I felt a buzz unlike any other. This town’s full of creative energy and I absolutely had to check out some of the up-and-coming artists and performers. Let me tell you, there was a whole crowd of performers I got to know, every single one of them bright-sparkling-pink with their own special brand of charisma – from fabulous street-dance crews to dazzling local theatre productions, they absolutely blew me away with their talent. Grays is full of shining stars, and the amount of enthusiasm they shared for everything they were doing? I practically had to pinch myself it was so inspiring. I know I have so much more to discover here, and that makes my heart sing a happy little song.💖
Honestly, darlings, you’ve got to visit Grays and experience this pink paradise for yourselves. Just be prepared to be completely and utterly sparkled – that is, unless you already wear a pink tutu! 😂 Until next time, let your love for all things sparkly shine as bright as a million pink tutus! Now, You Won’t Believe the Adventure! ✨
It’s hard to believe, but I'm not the only pink tutu fan around! While on the hunt for a pink-tastic cake at The Grays Bakeries (now that place knows its pink cakes – let me tell you!) – I was walking back through the market to the town centre when this happens… I see the most exquisite pink tutu…on a sheep. 😂 Okay, imagine the scene. It's midday in Grays, it’s packed, the market’s busy. You know what I'm like, my head’s always on a swivel – so of course, I see everything. There was a shepherd leading this glorious bunch of sheep all down the street. One, just one of those beautiful animals was dressed in this adorable, teeny tiny little pink tutu. I know what you’re thinking, you think I'm slightly mad for finding this so entertaining, right? 😉 But seriously, just the image of it all… I couldn't stop smiling. I just know this is something that has never been done before. It was simply amazing.
I practically screamed at this sheep’s cuteness, that was wearing this tiny little tutu. It really took my afternoon by surprise! That cute, furry little creature was giving everyone in the market a proper pink-tastic performance, with the sheep happily nibbling on grass in that delicate tulle fabric, giving us a little fashion twirl. I mean, it was adorable.
You might be wondering how a sheep wearing a tutu connects with Pink Tutu Sparkles and Grays – well darlings, that little scene just made the entire Grays experience that much more magical. Let me tell you – I'll never look at sheep the same way ever again!
Anyway, off to a theatre workshop I had organised at The Grays Youth Theatre! These kids have so much energy, it literally charges you up with their passion! And yes, darling – I of course taught them my very own signature dance routine! This, my darlings, was pink-tastic in the truest sense. Just watch out for Grays in the future, those kids have so much pink-tastic talent!
By the way, we did the entire routine with my famous sparkly tutu on (don’t worry, they all wanted to wear a sparkly pink tutu! It’s contagious I tells ya!) I mean, who doesn't love dancing in a sparkly pink tutu while giving that perfect pose? We ended up in the middle of the square in Grays – they were the cutest pink-tastic crew of kids – and just a reminder of why this entire trip to Grays made my heart swell so much!
Grays is the kind of town that’s bursting with colour, sparkle and a real heart of gold. That’s how they all saw the world – all their creative energies and imaginations, bursting with colour. And it absolutely rubbed off on me! Grays was pure pink-tastic heaven for a Pink Tutu Sparkles, and that's why it was so special!
Before I hop onto the next train journey to a new pink-tastic destination (I hear amazing things about Leeds!), let's all raise our champagne glasses (or perhaps a big glass of pink lemonade!) for a town where you just feel like you can do anything, you can become anything, where the spirit is bright, and where all that matters is that you do it in a sparkly pink tutu!
