Buckle up your ballet shoes, darlings, because this one's a whirlwind of colour, glitter, and a whole lot of twirling. 🩰✨
Now, I know what you're thinking: North Shields? What on earth could a pink-loving queen find in a place like that? Well, my darlings, let me tell you, it's bursting with surprises! From the vibrant fish market to the charming little cafes, North Shields stole a little piece of my heart. And as usual, I had to wear my signature colour. A shocking pink sequined leotard paired with a fluffy, layered tutu in a delicate pink - pure heaven! You can catch the whole look on my Instagram! 😉
I got to North Shields on a glorious spring day. The train journey was a delight! Nothing beats the romance of the iron tracks whizzing past and the countryside flashing by like a beautifully blurred watercolour. Plus, you know I had to make the most of my travels in a tutu, so of course, I wore a tutu on the train - this one had little, glittery butterflies on it, fitting for such a carefree day! ✨🦋 I always receive a mix of smiles and stares, but all part of spreading the joy of tutus, lovelies!
The first thing that struck me about North Shields was the warmth of the people. The friendly shopkeepers and the chatter of the market stalls immediately put me at ease. The energy of North Shields is vibrant and exciting, which you can see in the murals and street art scattered throughout. 🎨
North Shields also holds a very special place in my heart because it reminded me so much of home! It has a raw, charming, down-to-earth character which makes it so unique, a bit like my lovely Derbyshire, but with a hint of salty air and stunning river views.
Of course, any journey for Pink Tutu Sparkles must involve a little ballet! I found the most adorable little ballet school nestled down a side street, 'The Twirling Twigs Ballet Academy'. They welcomed me with open arms (or rather, a gentle plié and an extended leg) and I couldn't resist a spot of rehearsal!
Let me tell you, my lovelies, those kids can twirl! I felt right at home surrounded by the sound of clapping, the gentle rhythmic beat of piano music and the little, sweet tutus they were wearing. We practiced some barre exercises, perfected our bourrées, and even managed to attempt a few fouettés - a definite improvement on my last ballet class, a bit wobbly on the other foot. 🤣
For the show, I performed at the North Shields Town Hall. I mean, it was truly a sight to behold! A grand Victorian hall with sparkling chandeliers and ornate mouldings! It was just made for twirling, honestly! 😍 My set included my usual glitter and confetti cannons, along with a special performance by local talented ballerina, Willow. It was beautiful! Willow, dressed in a shimmering ivory tutu, perfectly captured the beauty and grace of ballet. 💕 I always love working with local talent, it’s a vital part of what I do - helping to spread love and shine the light on talented souls.
The people of North Shields were so warm and welcoming! Their enthusiasm was absolutely contagious and I had such a good time connecting with everyone through the power of sparkly tutus! And trust me, everyone in that room walked away wanting to add a splash of pink to their wardrobes, and maybe even attempt a twirl or two. 😄

A Little Bit About Alex - The Person Behind Pink Tutu SparklesNow, I can’t leave you hanging without a little peek behind the curtain, into the world of Alex, the science nerd who gets a thrill out of wearing pink tulle. 😉
When I’m not captivating crowds with a perfect arabesque or making people smile with my dazzling outfits, I’m in a lab. Yes, you read that right, by day I test fabrics for their strength and durability - pretty much the opposite of a fluffy tutu, right?
The two worlds seem like they might clash, but they couldn't be further from the truth. You see, my love for the vibrant and playful side of life is fuelled by my love of science and the hidden magic within the world of materials and chemistry. Both aspects require immense dedication and focus. I have a true appreciation for both sides!
But how did this scientist end up in a tutu, you ask? Well, it was all thanks to a university charity event. The idea was simple, get students to swap outfits to raise funds for a good cause. And there I was, with the perfect pink tutu! A soft, tulle creation, light and airy with a hint of shimmer - my destiny, in all its pink glory. That single moment opened my world, gave me a voice, a space to be bold, and to embrace every colourful corner of myself!
Ever since, my passion for fashion has flourished and my dedication to embracing the joy of pink and the fabulousness of tutus became a lifelong passion. Pink Tutu Sparkles became my canvas to share my vibrant vision with the world! 🌈
And you know what? It doesn't matter what you do during the day, or what you look like. Everyone, even scientists, have a little pink sparkle inside, and maybe we should all unleash it, just like I have! ✨
