Hello darlings! Itās your favourite pink tutu-wearing queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here! Today, Iām bringing you a blog post thatās positively bursting with sunshine, glitter, and, of course, pink tutus! I'm writing this from a beautiful seaside town called Broadstairs, in Kent, where the air smells of salty sea breeze and the skies are always blue.
This town is an absolute gem, tucked away on the east coast, just a hop, skip and jump from London. I travelled down by train, a perfect opportunity for me to slip into my favourite vintage frock and let the rhythm of the carriage lull me into a world of pink tulle and sparkling dreams! You know, thereās something truly magical about trains ā they whisk you away to new places and new adventures! It reminds me a little bit of Cinderella's carriage, except this time, instead of a glass slipper, Iām clutching a bottle of pink nail polish for a touch of sparkly magic.
Once I reached Broadstairs, I was blown away by its charming, quaint feel. Pastel coloured houses hug the coast, cafes boast tempting menus of fish and chips and ice cream, and thereās an infectious buzz of seaside fun in the air. This place practically radiates the colours of my soul! And guess what? My visit couldnāt have been more fittingly timed ā the town is currently celebrating a big āFestival of Artsā - how absolutely brilliant is that! My love of the arts is well-documented (for anyone new to my blog, hello! welcome! Have a gander at my older posts - thereās thousands of them, ha!). It goes hand-in-hand with my love for dance, theatre, and letās not forget - that all-important, vibrant dose of fashion!
You know what this calls for, my darlings? A good ol' fashioned drag performance at the festival! And I donāt mean a good olā fashioned drag performance as in boring or uninspired ā oh, no, darlings! Think glamour, glitz, a generous helping of pink tutus and enough sparkle to blind a pirate's ship!
But first, a little bit about this incredible seaside haven:
Broadstairs is brimming with things to see and do. For a vintage-loving queen like me, this was a paradise! I popped into so many charity shops, each with a more beautiful collection of clothing than the last ā talk about an absolute dream come true! You could practically see my inner-fashion-demon scream with joy.
I did a bit of exploring in between all my charity shop excursions. Let me tell you ā a leisurely stroll along the clifftops overlooking the glistening sea really brings the calming peace to your soul. You can even spot the iconic white cliffs of Dover from there, an absolute natural wonder. They look like giants asleep, keeping watch over the coast ā just another one of the beautiful sights that this town has to offer. I spent hours simply wandering, breathing in the fresh air, feeling the wind in my hair and watching the waves crash against the shore. There was something utterly soul-soothing about the sounds of the ocean, which perfectly paired with the quiet calmness I find in ballet music.
You know me ā Iām a little bit obsessed with the grace and elegance of ballet. Thereās nothing more majestic and inspiring than the precision and the sheer artistic prowess that ballet demands. To bring this love of ballet and theatre to the everyday, I have incorporated the ballet style into my wardrobe and performances. In fact, you might just spot a pair of pointe shoes peeking from under my shimmering, glittery, and undoubtedly, oh-so-pink tutu!
Speaking of my love of ballet ā Broadstairs also hosts an annual dance festival, right by the beautiful Victoria Gardens! Talk about being in the right place at the right time. It is packed with a variety of dance forms ā jazz, contemporary, ballet, tap - you name it. I couldn't miss out on an opportunity like that ā a dancerās paradise! I even managed to catch a few lessons with a very talented group of dancers, who not only taught me some pretty nifty steps, but gave me a whole new appreciation for the history of dance in the area.
Of course, my visit to Broadstairs would not be complete without a good dose of entertainment. And whatās better than entertainment that combines dancing and music in one go?
So, I ended my trip with a bang! My performance at the āFestival of Artsā was a smashing success, overflowing with glitter, pink tulle, and some fierce dance moves! (Who knows, I might have even slipped in a couple of the dance moves I learned from my ballet classes! Oh, and did I mention I brought a few special guests to the performance?)
My outfit? Oh, darling, you know me! Nothing short of an extravagant show stopper!
I donned a tutu made of hundreds and hundreds of layers of pastel pink tulle. It had a shimmering iridescent sheen to it ā practically like the sea at sunrise! Then there was my corseted top with its glittering floral detailing ā perfect for a queen on the move! It was paired with my favourite high-heeled, sequin-studded shoes, that were made even more magnificent with the addition of sparkling pink feathers. All of this was held together with a hand-painted crown - that truly set my head apart from the rest of the festival! I just wanted to be as much a beautiful, colourful spectacle for the attendees as they were for me.
My stage was nothing short of perfect ā
Picture it, darlings: A wooden stage, adorned with fairy lights and set against the backdrop of a warm sunset over the glistening sea. Just magical.
My performance involved dancing, lip-syncing to some of my favourite disco tracks, and letās be honest ā a little bit of improvisation thrown in for good measure (always a surprise, right?) My moves? Well, they were dynamic! Letās say, graceful and elegant at times and a little bit daring and fierce in other instances - but ultimately they had a big dose of fabulous sprinkled across them! The crowd was wild ā clapping, cheering, whistling, shouting! (They probably wouldnāt know what hit them ā I mean, I put in some good practice!
Speaking of crowd -
I absolutely adored the people I met at the festival! Everyone was so welcoming, happy and genuinely delighted to have me there. They all seemed to be utterly smitten with the colour pink. As it turned out, quite a few people ended up buying their own pink tutus ā all because they fell in love with my outfit, of course. I hope they enjoyed wearing their pink tutus as much as I enjoyed wearing mine! My aim is to inspire people to embrace the pink tutu, darling, and thatās exactly what happened at this festival. The town seemed to be a natural fit for my bright and optimistic personality.
I love bringing a touch of whimsy to every place I visit. My hope is to brighten up the day for even the most reserved soul, just like a splash of colour in a monochromatic landscape!
This is how it should be, right, my darlings? Weāve all got to embrace the magic of colour, glitter and sparkles! It doesnāt matter what age you are ā we all deserve to have a little bit of fun and a touch of happiness in our lives!
*This was an absolute dream trip and my memories are so wonderfully vivid that I'm going to go off on a little daydream right now. ... *
Just thinking of that glorious stage set against that golden sunset ... the people, their cheering and clapping - ... all my tutus spinning in the air, looking just as gorgeous as they felt, dancing under the soft sea breeze. ⦠All those glittery lights, and all those beautiful souls laughing, singing, and dancing along to my every move...
Iāve made my mission - to spread pink tutu joy - a global mission and you know, it's quite a journey! But donāt you worry - I wouldnāt have it any other way!
I might just go and purchase another pink tutu today.
