Hey darlings, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where all things pink, sparkly, and twirly are celebrated! It’s your favourite pink tutu-wearing drag queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here, bringing you all the fabulous goss from my latest adventure. This time, I found myself transported (by train, of course - always in style!) to the lovely seaside town of Leith in Scotland, and boy, did it live up to its reputation!
Let me start by saying that I’m completely smitten with Leith. It’s got that charming, independent vibe with a dash of history thrown in, all wrapped up in a pretty coastal package. My pink tutu got more than a few compliments walking through the cobbled streets and, lemme tell ya, it feels amazing to get such enthusiastic approval from everyone, from wee bairns to grannies!
This trip was extra special, as I was invited to perform at the Leith Fringe Festival. Can you imagine, darling? My debut in this artsy wonderland! The vibe was electrifying. I found myself surrounded by vibrant performers, artistic souls, and tons of creative energy. Honestly, it felt like a perfect blend of chaos and magic, which is my ideal scenario, wouldn't you agree? And let’s not forget the audience. Those wonderful Leith folk lapped up every twirl and glitter bomb! It was a joy to see smiles and gasps of astonishment as my tutu did its thing on the stage. They say that 'The Show Must Go On,' and that's exactly what it did - it was a fabulous spectacle of pink-tastic magic, even for the Scottish drizzle we had on the evening.
But enough about me, let's dive into some of the amazing things I got up to in Leith. My inner shopaholic went absolutely wild at The Biscuit Factory, darling. Honestly, it’s like a paradise for vintage finds and handcrafted goodies! I found myself clutching a stunning new handbag, crafted by a local designer - imagine, it's pink with a sequined design and matching fluffy pink pom-poms on the handles. Can you believe it?! Now, this is a handbag that could steal the show even if you're wearing jeans and a tee! I swear, the longer I wandered, the more the Biscuit Factory felt like a magical treasure cave where I could easily get lost in a flurry of sparkly fabrics and one-off, designer pieces.
Leith has a delightful old-world charm that I just adore. The Victorian architecture, the quaint cafes nestled between cobblestone lanes - it was like stepping back in time with a modern twist. It's an inspiring mix! My visit wouldn’t have been complete without experiencing the magic of The Royal Lyceum Theatre, which happens to be one of Scotland's most prestigious theatre venues. Even without a show, I had a wander around the grand interior and saw the backstage and rehearsal rooms - such a cool experience! You just feel the history and passion that's been poured into the building over the years. You've got to have seen it, it's all part of the theatre experience! I can't imagine having the nerve to perform on that stage, you must be some kind of theatrical rockstar to even attempt it!
Speaking of theatrical flair, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, right around the corner, was a magnet for my pink-tutu clad soul. The streets buzzed with impromptu street performers, comedians, and talented artists displaying their unique artistry. I soaked in all the vibes and even tried a new Pink Tutu Salsa, inspired by my time on a balcony watching a street show in the sunshine! My pink tutu held its own during all the twirls and spins - the movement's fantastic! I did have a slight tutu malfunction when I stumbled over an unwary pigeon - my apologies to said pigeon - but it's all part of the act, right?!
But no trip to Leith, in my opinion, is complete without experiencing the delights of the Forth Rail Bridge. Honestly, that structure is just awe-inspiring, a majestic sight from any angle, towering high above the water! We went on a special tour, it really brought the bridge to life! And even got to visit the paint shop which was covered in huge rollers ready to coat the bridge. I even got a sneaky picture with some of the bridge painting team and the paint rollers - I'm sure you'll find it on my instagram soon, all decked out in my best pink, and with an air of pride, of course! Honestly, what a sight, what a history, such an amazing feat of engineering. The Forth Rail Bridge is a true symbol of human creativity and ingenuity - even if I did struggle to catch a train that was already there!
I spent a blissful evening at *the shore, getting lost in the picturesque harbour views while tucking into a delicious seafood platter, all topped off with the most amazing, (pink!) strawberry milkshake ever! Can you even imagine the sheer delight! Pink milkshake by the harbour - now that's living the dream, darlings.
I ended the night enjoying the Leith Jazz Festival at one of the many cozy bars lining the streets, soaking in the sweet melodies with a refreshing cocktail. Jazz has such a lovely laid-back mood, it suits the cool night air and brings back lovely memories of watching those iconic black-and-white film stars from the era! I have to admit, I'm no good with improvisations, but the jazz performers, now those are genuine artists. They do have to be, since it's all ad-libbed and unrehearsed!
All in all, my little trip to Leith was pure pink-tastic joy, darlings! It’s a destination that has everything – historic charm, artistic vibrancy, delicious food, and, of course, lots of pink-tutu-friendly fun. I truly hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into my Leith adventure. I'll be back, darlings, for more pink tutu magic, I’m already planning my next big trip, which could be anything! The great thing about performing drag, and loving what I do, is that it’s taking me to the most wonderful places and giving me new opportunities and experiences all the time. I mean, let’s face it, I love spreading a little pink tutu joy wherever I go. That’s why I always keep a couple of spare tutus in my luggage. You never know who might be inspired to join the Pink Tutu Revolution, right?! Who knows, perhaps even some lovely folks in Leith, where it all started! Until then, keep twirling!
