Oh, darlings! The glitter dust has barely settled from my whirlwind tour of Edinburgh, and already I’m positively buzzing with excitement to share all the pink, sparkly delights with you! Leith was the latest stop on my pink tutu pilgrimage, and oh my, did it deliver.
Now, as you know, I, your beloved Pink Tutu Sparkles, am all about making the world a little brighter, a little more whimsical, and a little more pink, of course. And Leith just screamed pink tutu potential! It's the sort of place that oozes history and charm, with cobbled streets, grand buildings, and a vibrant arts scene - perfect for a queen in her pink tutu, I'd say.
Before we dive into the details, let's rewind for a moment and take a quick peek at my journey! I opted for the train, my dear, a luxurious way to travel, complete with the quintessential train snack of a pink iced doughnut! It was the perfect chance to soak up the scenery and to plot the various outfits I would wear during my stay. (It's true what they say – even the smallest suitcase of a drag queen can house an abundance of pink outfits!)
Once in Edinburgh, I booked into the most delightful B&B – a gorgeous Victorian townhouse with the most divine pink floral wallpaper! I felt like a fairytale princess, only with a much brighter pink colour scheme, naturally! After settling in and unpacking all those dazzling pink ensembles, I took a wander through Leith's historic streets.
My first stop, of course, had to be the fabulous Leith Theatre. This beautiful Art Deco building is bursting with charm, and the current community arts centre housed within truly captures the spirit of Leith. The space itself has so much history and it's easy to picture grand balls, sparkling lights, and yes, maybe even a tutu-clad queen gracing the stage!
The Leith Walk area is such a vibrant hub, filled with independent shops, galleries, and even a gorgeous theatre (The Playhouse), so I simply had to have a peek around! I just knew the fabulous folks in Leith would love to add a splash of pink to their outfits.
I discovered a vintage shop crammed full of retro finds, where I managed to snag a couple of amazing vintage handbags perfect for holding my shimmering essentials, a gorgeous antique hat to give my next stage show some extra fabulousness, and even a set of vintage earrings which totally matched the shimmering rose-gold of my pink tutu for the evening performance! It really is remarkable how much vintage jewellery works well with pink tulle. Don't forget to check those local markets and charity shops – hidden treasures await, you just have to be open to pink, that’s all!
Later in the evening, it was time to hit the stage! I was lucky to get a gig at a local cabaret venue – you really can't beat a cosy space for sharing that love of performing, you know. My audience absolutely loved the vibrant energy I brought to the stage – and that’s all down to the power of pink!
Let's face it, pink has a certain power, doesn't it? It can make even the most ordinary day feel magical and transform any setting into a shimmering stage. It just makes everything, even those of us a bit shy or insecure, feel so confident! That's the thing I love most about pink - it has a magical power that makes you feel like you can take on anything!
Of course, no trip to Edinburgh is complete without a trip to the National Gallery of Scotland, and trust me, dear readers, my trusty pink tutu was the perfect outfit for that occasion. Seeing the famous "Pink" by the French painter Gustave Courbet - who even knew a painter loved pink! - was simply divine, the shades of pink were breathtaking, just as beautiful as my own fabulous pink tutu! I could even see how artists have been inspired to use such bright colour in their art – just as I’m inspired to use pink! And just as the painting 'Pink' was one of the most sought-after works by this artist – well, just like a pink tutu can turn any street into a fabulous fashion runway, my own, personal pink tutu, I realised, could be considered as 'A Pink Tutu by Pink Tutu Sparkles', if you see what I mean?! I’m off to write to the Royal Academy of Art… watch this space!
Oh, and remember, the Scottish National Ballet is just down the road from the Gallery, which obviously meant that I had to try a class at their Edinburgh studio! Oh, to have a whole new, dedicated audience and group of people with which to spread the gospel of pink and all things tutus, my ultimate aim to get everyone to embrace pink! It was a joyous mix of elegant movements, rhythmic steps, and, of course, plenty of twirls and leaps - just the way a Pink Tutu Sparkles loves it!
As the sun began to set, casting the city in a magical pink glow, I sat on the pier, reflecting on my incredible journey. Every time I travel, it fills my heart with a joyous, whimsical feeling – a feeling only made possible by wearing my signature pink tutu, the true magical power of my pink tutu shines bright in this colourful, historic place! I always come home refreshed and brimming with inspiration for new shows, new routines, new colours to mix and match.
