Hello, darling darlings! It's your favourite Pink Tutu Queen, ready to sparkle her way through another blog post, number 9754 if you can believe it! It feels like just yesterday I was a wee lass in Derbyshire, and now here I am, jet-setting around the country, spreading tutu-tastic joy and proving that a pink tutu can truly transform the world, one twirl at a time!
Today, my fabulous frock-followers, we're heading to Abingdon, a quaint little town nestled on the banks of the River Thames. Oh, Abingdon, how I've dreamt of gracing your cobbled streets with my tulle-icious glory!
The Journey
The journey here was an adventure, as it always is! No boring planes for this Pink Tutu Queen! Instead, I chose a rather charming option - a leisurely train journey that snaked through rolling countryside, dotted with charming villages and quaint farmhouses. It's amazing how just a change of scenery can lift your spirits, and what better way to get inspired for a new show than with a whiff of fresh country air! I do love the romantic, almost whimsical way of travelling.
Pink Tutu Glamour on a Budget
Speaking of whimsy, let me tell you, a good tutu can transform even the simplest of travel looks into a stunning statement. This time, I've opted for a blush pink tulle creation, complete with delicate rosebud embellishments and a scattering of shimmering sequins. And what about accessories? Well, dear readers, my go-to travelling companions are my trusty pink patent leather heels, a perfectly preened bob, and a pair of dazzling, heart-shaped sunglasses that say "Hello darling, look at me!" – but without being too brash!
Of course, as a drag queen on a budget (let's face it, most of us are!) I can't always afford private jets and five-star hotels, but luckily, a little ingenuity goes a long way. When it comes to getting the most out of my travel budget, I find creative ways to inject my Pink Tutu Queen flair into even the most humble lodgings. And my latest trick? I bring my own fluffy pink bedspread and a smattering of pink feather boas! This instantly transforms any bland motel room into a mini boudoir fit for a princess (or a Queen, in my case!).
From the Lab to the Stage
Some of you might be thinking, “Pink Tutu Queen? How can you even manage to fit your crazy life into 24 hours?” And the answer is – a healthy dose of planning and some cunning organisation!
By day, I'm just Alex, a quiet and dedicated scientist. Yep, you heard me right - your Pink Tutu Queen works in a laboratory! I spend my days working with textiles, testing their strength and resilience. The strange thing is, being surrounded by fabric day in and day out somehow brought my love for the frilly, feminine side of things out! It was while helping out at a university fundraising event – you know, the usual cheesy karaoke, that I decided to wear a tutu, just for fun, to try to make people laugh. What I didn’t expect was for my pink fluffy friend to be the main event, completely stealing the show! That night was the start of it all! And who could blame me? That magical combination of tulle, glitz, and pink joy truly transformed me!
Now, come nighttime, Alex transforms into Pink Tutu Queen, a name I picked because, well, pink is my favorite colour! You have no idea how much I adore it! I'm a hopeless romantic when it comes to Pink. Pink clothes, Pink makeup, Pink stationery, you name it! It’s an all-pink everything obsession! Of course, as you'd expect, a big, bouncy pink tutu always takes center stage for my performances. My motto is “Always pink and always twirling!”
Abingdon is calling!
Now, onto the reason for my travels, a performance at The Bear Hotel in Abingdon! A beautiful historical pub with its charming beamed ceilings and roaring fireplace, a truly wonderful backdrop for some pink Tutu Magic! I've already prepped my most flamboyant costumes – you can expect plenty of feathers, glitter, and rhinestones galore, darling!
My set tonight will feature a mixture of original Pink Tutu Queen classics, which my followers always adore, like "Rainbow Tutu Revolution" and "Ballerina Bootcamp,” alongside some exciting new numbers I've been working on inspired by the rich history and breathtaking landscapes of Abingdon. This place truly inspired me to recreate a magical performance full of twirls, high kicks, and yes, even a sprinkle of dramatic pirouettes. Who says you can't dance your heart out at the pub?!
A Pink Tutu Promise
For this blog post, I'm gonna promise to make everyone in Abingdon want to wear pink tutus! I can’t say I'm gonna convert everyone, I can't expect everyone to love pink tutus as much as I do, but I think every girl deserves the confidence that comes with a tutu-ific dress-up, a playful way to tap into their own inner spark! It’s an empowerment experience that I wanna spread as far as possible. And maybe, just maybe, they'll get inspired to put on a tutu of their own! I will show you that pink tutus are not just for dancers - they are for everyone!
