It's your fabulous Pink Tutu Sparkles here, with a brand-spanking new blog post for you - number 9793, if you're keeping track! - fresh off the presses from a most magnificent journey to the charming town of Coulsdon.
Now, I know what you're thinking - Coulsdon, darling? But trust me, this was no ordinary trip! This adventure involved some top-notch travel (I took the train, naturally, and we'll chat about that later), a glorious ballet show that had me twirling in my seat, and a dose of that quintessential Coulsdon charm that just stole my heart.
Before I tell you all about the pink-tastic magic of Coulsdon, let's back up a bit. As you all know, your Tutu Queen is a woman of many talents (and, dare I say, passions)! By day, I'm a scientist, a whizz with a lab coat and all things fabric testing. By night? Well, you know the drill - it's Pink Tutu Sparkles, the queen of sparkle, bringing that glittery joy to every stage I grace.
Speaking of sparkly joy, I think the seed of this whole "pink tutu" madness was planted back when I was just a wee Alex, studying science in Derbyshire. It was at university, I joined the ballet club and in a moment of pure charity-inspired madness, tried on a tutu for a fundraiser. It felt… well… liberating.
Suddenly, the lab coat seemed less glamorous! And just like that, a star was born - or should I say, a Queen was crowned! ? The pink tutus were a natural progression (that bright, vibrant colour just screamed "Pink Tutu Sparkles" to me!), and from there, well, you know the story!
And this brings me back to Coulsdon! So, how does a Derbyshire girl find herself twirling in a Coulsdon theatre, you ask? Well, a little bird - more likely, a glittery sequinned hummingbird! - told me about a fabulous ballet troupe performing at the beautiful Coulsdon Centre. Let's just say my dance shoes hit the ground before I even knew the dates.
My trip was pure pink perfection. The train ride was just what I needed to settle my nerves and get myself in the mood - the window seat, the crisp air rushing past, and the world passing by as I practiced a few pirouettes (don't worry, darling, it wasn't anything too flashy...just a few gentle spins! ?).
And the Coulsdon Centre itself - just picture a beautiful building with those charming high ceilings and classic architectural details. And once I got inside, the real magic happened! They had these lovely posters, all designed with different themes - each showcasing one of the upcoming shows. And can you believe they had a whole section for tutus! Oh, the tutus - they were so pretty and I swear I must have tried on every single one (okay, maybe just ten or twelve)!
They were mostly classic, ballet style, and had these amazing swirling details on them. Some were silky smooth and shimmery and others had lace and intricate designs on them - talk about sheer artistic perfection. Honestly, darlings, it was an embarrassment of riches, I practically fell into a swooning puddle of tutus. (They gave me a funny look - not that I blame them! ?)
After that exciting adventure in the tutu wonderland, I headed for the auditorium. My seat had the most beautiful view, a perfect perspective of the entire stage. And then the curtains went up…
I'm telling you, dear reader, it was simply spectacular. They were performing “Swan Lake,” the most beautiful piece! They told the tale with grace and poise, with a sense of pure beauty in their movements that had my jaw on the floor.
But what really stuck with me, was the story behind the piece - it was a love story set against a backdrop of beautiful costumes. Oh, those costumes - those dazzling dresses and stunning tunics that whispered of bygone times and grand kingdoms - simply divine! And they added just the right touch of colour to the whole performance.
Now, as much as I love all things pink, let's be honest - sometimes even I need a bit of colour variety, right? But seeing “Swan Lake" solidified it for me, it's about balance, my dears! A touch of sparkle, a dash of drama, and a lot of beauty and poise.
I just knew I needed to try out ballet for myself again! The energy at the Coulsdon Centre was contagious, and when they advertised a “beginner ballet" class, my pink-tutu clad feet just couldn’t resist. So, guess who ended up wearing a pair of stylish leggings, a vibrant pink tutu (of course!), and trying out those classic ballet moves, oh so delicately and gracefully!
(Just between you and me, those ballet shoes gave me a real run for my money, but after a good amount of practise and a healthy dose of determination, I’m pretty sure I nailed those plié moves. Maybe just maybe I’ve got a future as a graceful ballerina in me yet! ?)
Now, I have to admit, a full day of ballet is hard work. Luckily for a Tutu Queen, it's always important to have a few treats ready to fuel that inner diva!
You just wouldn't believe how much I enjoyed those delightful cupcakes! The baker, (a very enthusiastic lady in a very striking floral dress that had more sequins than my own collection) assured me they had the most amazing "tutti-fruiti" flavours, which felt incredibly symbolic - like the perfect combination of all those fun things we love: colour, sweetness, and a little sprinkle of sparkle!
To say I enjoyed Coulsdon, my darlings, is an understatement. I felt truly at home there, surrounded by people who appreciated the joy of performance, the allure of the tutu, and most importantly, the beauty of embracing your individuality and sharing that with the world.
And now, the real question... what can you learn from all of this? Well, I’m here to remind you, just as a pink tutu reminds me every day, to embrace all your flamboyance. Be true to yourself.
