Hey lovelies, it's your favourite pink tutu-clad drag queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, back with another travel tale straight from the heart of New York City!
As you know, I live for adventure, for shimmering sequins, and most of all, for spreading the joy of the pink tutu! So, imagine my delight when I was invited to perform in the Big Apple for New Year's Eve. It was a dream come true – a whirlwind of glittering lights, roaring crowds, and a sprinkle of magic that could only be found in the most electrifying city in the world.
I can't even begin to describe the rush I felt stepping off the train at Penn Station. This wasn't my first time in New York, but it always feels like coming home – especially when you're sporting a fluffy pink tutu and sparkly platform heels!
My journey to this glamorous gig was, as always, an adventure. It began in Derbyshire, where I swapped my lab coat for a dazzling feathered boa and took the train to London. I absolutely love train journeys. They're such a romantic way to travel – watching the countryside fly by, lost in my own world of pink tulle and daydreams.
When I reached London, I had the most fabulous afternoon of shopping. New York demands a certain level of sparkle, so I picked out a new feathered headdress, some dazzling diamante earrings and a pair of bright pink platforms. Oh, and a fluffy pink tutu, naturally! I always try to get a new one for every city I visit – a little reminder of all the amazing places I've been.
That evening, I performed at a fabulously camp fundraiser at a local community centre. They loved my new show "A Celebration of Tutus," which, of course, involves plenty of twirling and even a bit of ballet en pointe (my secret weapon).
After a quick snooze on the train, I was in New York! Stepping out into the glittering metropolis, I could almost taste the magic in the air. The energy was intoxicating – just like my newest perfume!
I stayed in a hotel right next to the theatre district. It felt so glamorous to be in such a historic place, just steps away from where legendary performers like Marlene Dietrich and Judy Garland once graced the stage.
My first day in New York was dedicated to my favourite things – ballet and fashion. I spent the morning watching the most mesmerising performance at the New York City Ballet. Those dancers were just breathtaking – every move so precise, so elegant, so inspiring! I think I was especially entranced by their gorgeous tutus – a vibrant spectrum of colours, so unlike my favourite shade of pink! But they were so beautiful and graceful, reminding me why I love this dance form so much.
Afterwards, I hit the shops for more inspiration. New York is such a feast for the eyes. The colours, the styles, the sheer volume of fashion - it's like walking into a living, breathing magazine!
I found some amazing outfits to add to my repertoire, some quirky accessories for my "Pink Tutu Sparkle" wardrobe and a brand new tutu (pink, obviously!). It's the most delicate tutu, made from layers and layers of the softest tulle, with shimmering diamantes scattered throughout.
The evening brought the most enchanting show. I wandered down Broadway, caught a glimpse of Times Square ablaze with lights, and then popped into a hidden ballet school for a performance of Swan Lake. I simply had to catch this classic – every time I see this masterpiece, I feel a renewed sense of wonder and inspiration.
New Year's Eve was absolutely sensational. The energy in Times Square was phenomenal, and the crowds were dressed in the most amazing outfits, ready for the countdown. Of course, I was the centre of attention, surrounded by giggling onlookers who wanted a photo with the pink tutu queen!
I was performing at the heart of it all – Times Square. My show, “Pink Tutu in New York,” was a whirlwind of high energy, lots of sparkles and glitter, and, naturally, some show-stopping tutu moves. I even had a special dance sequence to “New York, New York.” The crowd was amazing – everyone cheered, and danced along with me! It was a true dream come true, to perform in New York, surrounded by this vibrant, energetic atmosphere.
The countdown was something I'll never forget – the massive ball dropping from the top of One Times Square, everyone screaming and cheering – it was magic! And as the confetti fell, I felt such joy and pride. I'd brought a touch of pink sparkle to New York City, a little piece of myself to the place that has always held such fascination for me.
My last day in New York was a real mix of the new and the familiar. First, I decided to explore a hidden part of the city – Central Park. It felt like another world, so peaceful and tranquil, a stark contrast to the frenetic energy of Times Square. I spent the morning wandering through its beautiful landscapes, soaking in the serenity, and imagining what it would be like to live in such a green, spacious area. And, of course, I found the perfect place to snap some photos for my pink tutu blog – with the skyscrapers of Manhattan peeking through the foliage, and the glistening lakes reflecting the brilliant sunshine.
In the afternoon, I wandered through Greenwich Village, soaking in the artsy, Bohemian vibe. I love how the city has so many contrasting districts – each with its own unique character and atmosphere. I stopped at a cafe for a delicious, sugary, pink cupcake, just like the ones my mother used to make back home! And while I sipped on a steaming cup of English Breakfast tea (it's good to find the comforts of home wherever you go!), I browsed the local shops. I discovered some vintage pieces – a truly unique find for my next drag act!
Later that evening, I indulged in some fabulous theatre – "Moulin Rouge!" I was blown away by the stunning costumes, the dazzling dance routines, and the heart-stopping energy of the show.
New York City, I've fallen for your charms once again. I can't wait to return, to explore more of your vibrant hidden gems and dazzling bright lights! You truly inspire me. And maybe, just maybe, on my next visit, I'll convince a few more people to join my tutu movement. Because, really, who wouldn't want to twirl around in a fluffy pink tutu, with a twinkle in their eye and a smile on their face?
Until next time, lovelies,
Pink Tutu Sparkles!
xx
