Hello my darlings! It's your Pink Tutu Sparkles here, fresh from a whirlwind trip to London, and let me tell you, my tutu-clad heart is positively bursting! This time, the fabulous Pink Tutu Sparkles was lucky enough to land in the glamorous Kensington area, a spot known for its regal air and sophisticated charm. Naturally, it was the perfect excuse for a tutu-rific time, darling!
This post is all about Kensington's wonderful mix of elegance and quirky delights, all served up with a hefty helping of pink and sparkle, of course. Just picture it: the beautiful Kensington Gardens, a picturesque park boasting beautiful lawns and grand Victorian structures. I just knew I had to capture that magic with my favourite accessory - a majestic pink tulle tutu, of course! I practically floated through those green spaces like a ballerina, feeling as carefree as a butterfly in the sunshine.
My trip to Kensington kicked off in style with a visit to the world-renowned Victoria and Albert Museum, where I indulged my love for all things fashionable and beautiful. This place is an absolute treasure trove for anyone with a passion for the arts and design. Think opulent ball gowns, dazzling jewellery, and a grand display of costumes – talk about inspiration for my next drag performance! While I did try on a few tiaras and feather boas (because, well, who can resist a little glamour?), I resisted the temptation to take home anything heavier than a tote bag filled with stunning museum-inspired ephemera.
After my V&A adventures, I decided to explore Kensington High Street. This vibrant hub buzzed with life, offering everything from posh boutiques to cosy independent shops. A good walkabout in any city has to include a little shopping, wouldn't you say? It’s so fun just window-shopping, but sometimes I can't resist going inside a shop that’s absolutely dripping with glitter and sequins. And let’s be honest, how can you say no to a shop called ‘The Tutu Emporium’ - they just had to have the best selection of tutus, and yes, you guessed it, they did! It's hard to leave the store without a new tutu or two to add to the collection.
No visit to London is complete without a glimpse of its stunning architecture. I couldn’t resist a trip to the Kensington Palace, a historical landmark that oozed elegance and royalty. A gorgeous garden, impressive history, and a chance to see some fantastic royal displays? That’s a big ‘yes please!’ from Pink Tutu Sparkles! It was magical wandering around its sprawling gardens, soaking in the ambiance of this iconic palace. The grounds felt almost otherworldly, as if they belonged in a fairytale. I even tried out some of my ballerina moves, striking a few poses under the gaze of the iconic Kensington Palace. Now, don't think I was doing any showstopping pirouettes in a full tutu! You wouldn't catch this girl falling flat on her face on camera! (Though if I ever tried it would be in a pink tutu, naturally).
In between the shopping and the palace shenanigans, I made sure to fit in a delectable high tea. It’s a London tradition, you know, a quintessentially British affair involving delicious pastries and a whole lotta tea. My go-to spot for the perfect English tea is The Kensington Afternoon Tea room – a delightful, quintessentially English setting for an afternoon of sweet treats. Everything from my charming teacup to the tiny finger sandwiches was delightfully dainty, just like my tutu, naturally! This experience had the added bonus of fueling up my energy for my performance later that night at the Kensington Arts Festival!
Speaking of the Festival, it's not often I get to perform in such a fantastic, artsy setting. This year’s Kensington Arts Festival was packed full of wonderful acts – theatre, music, comedy, dance, the lot! As a drag performer, there’s nothing more wonderful than feeling that sense of community amongst other artists – a proper bunch of performers and audience members with a love for creative expression. And that’s the other lovely thing about the Kensington Arts Festival; you get such a varied range of performers, there really is something for everyone, making it a fun, inclusive night out! It was wonderful to showcase my love of performance arts for a diverse audience. They especially loved the moment when I dramatically announced the start of my act – “Time for a Tutu Twist! And it’s gonna be pink, honey!”.
Kensington truly captivated me, darling. Its charm, its history, its fashion, it was all so incredibly enchanting. If you’re ever planning a trip to the capital, make sure to put this district on your itinerary. Who knows, you might even catch me in my pink tutu floating around!
