Taunton Twirls!

Hello my darlings! Pink Tutu Sparkles here, reporting live from the fabulous town of Taunton, Somerset! The air is crisp, the streets are buzzing, and the shops are practically begging me to come in and have a good rummage. Can you believe it’s February already?! Time really does fly when you're having fun, eh?

This trip to Taunton is a bit different, my lovelies. Forget about glitzy nightclubs and roaring crowds – we’re embracing a more relaxed vibe this time! As soon as I heard about the annual Taunton Dance Festival, I knew I had to get myself there! You see, you simply can’t have Pink Tutu Sparkles in a town renowned for its dance heritage without embracing all things pirouettes and pliés, right?!

Before I left, I treated myself to a little outfit inspiration in my favourite boutique, "Fancy Frocks". My motto is: if you're going to dance, you might as well do it in style, right?! So, I emerged victorious, sporting the most divine lilac tutu, layered with shimmering pink tulle – just perfect for a little twirl and a spot of "ballet-tainment," if you will!

The train journey was an absolute dream. Now, I know I’ve mentioned it before, but a good old-fashioned train journey is a key element of the Pink Tutu Sparkles travelling experience. As much as I love soaring through the sky in a plane (oh, the glam!), nothing quite beats watching the countryside roll past, catching a glimpse of life beyond the windows – it’s just so picturesque. This time, the views were absolutely stunning. rolling green hills punctuated with quaint stone cottages… you wouldn’t believe the photo opportunities!

Speaking of photos… I couldn’t resist documenting my travel antics. Naturally, a few pink-tastic poses in the carriage were a must – my Tutu Queens wouldn't expect anything less. The carriage was quite busy, so I had to try my best to stay on my best behavior and avoid getting the grumpy looks of any passing commuters. My usual high-energy routine of "Oh, you didn't notice me in the window?" has been temporarily replaced by "Sorry, was I blocking the doorway?". We can't always be queens on the train, right?

And let me tell you, Taunton’s a sight to behold! I’m particularly smitten with the town centre – so full of quaint shops and cafes. And who can resist a stroll around the beautiful Taunton Castle grounds? The history just leaps out at you – and I, of course, took the opportunity to have a little picnic in the gardens – nothing says elegant more than a spot of gourmet nibbles under the sun, am I right?

Of course, no visit to Taunton would be complete without attending the dance festival! A kaleidoscope of talented dancers took to the stage, showing off everything from traditional ballet to street dance – I even saw a troupe performing some pretty fabulous Bollywood-inspired pieces! Honestly, my jaw dropped. These kids have some seriously incredible skills!

I spent hours lost in a world of pirouettes, chassé, and breathtaking artistry. Seeing all these talented dancers – the energy, the focus, the sheer joy they displayed, it truly brought a tear to my eye. It just made me remember why I love dance so much. The freedom of expression, the ability to tell stories through movement, the way it transports you to another place. I felt it so keenly there, and it reignited my own desire to get back to the dance studio and practice, practice, practice!

In between dance recitals, I spent my days soaking up the vibrant atmosphere of Taunton. I popped into some fab shops, treated myself to a scrumptious afternoon tea in a charming little café, and even stumbled upon an old-world bakery, with the most beautiful artisan bread.

And oh my! Let’s not forget about the local market! It’s truly a treasure trove of delicious delights and handcrafted crafts. I picked up a charming little teacup (pink, of course!), some lavender hand cream (another pink beauty), and some exquisite handmade jewellery that would make any Tutu Queen’s wardrobe sing.

By the way, did I tell you about my delightful conversation with a charming little girl on the way to the market? This adorable little angel was sporting the most adorable tutu and declared, with utter conviction, “My tutu is my superpower!" Now, doesn’t that just melt your heart? I mean, what could be more inspiring? I promptly bought her a little pink sparkly crown as a reward for being so fabulous – I felt it was a perfect little thank you for a thought-provoking encounter.

But, enough about the market – let’s talk about food! Oh my, did I tell you about this fabulous Italian restaurant, just off the square? Honestly, the food was phenomenal. The chef, Marco (a charming gent who seemed almost as much of a tutu enthusiast as myself!), crafted some truly mouth-watering pasta and risotto, with the most divine flavours. The best part? He let me have a little fun with his food presentation, adding a little sparkle to my risotto – I have to admit, the plate almost seemed too pretty to eat! (But I did, I swear!).

All in all, it's been a weekend bursting with fabulousness, colour, and sparkle. Now, you know what else really takes my fancy? Sharing all these travel tales with my fabulous followers – and of course, my biggest mission in life is to encourage each and every one of you to rock a tutu. Now, I know what you're thinking: "But Pink Tutu, what about all the practicalities of wearing a tutu, it's not for everyday life". But I assure you, my Tutu Queens, with a little creativity, there are so many fun and fab ways to incorporate this iconic piece of clothing into your lives – be it a stylish party look, or a simple afternoon walk, a tutu is the perfect dose of joy. And remember: a little sprinkle of glitter never hurt anyone!

So there you have it – Taunton twirled and tickled my senses. The place has such an unique charm. It's truly an area that deserves more love and attention! I encourage all of you, my darlings, to pack your bags, embrace the tutu, and go explore! And as always, keep on sparkling, stay fabulously flamboyant, and until next time...

… xoxo, Pink Tutu Sparkles!
