Hey there, lovelies! It's your favourite pink-loving, tutu-toting, ballet-obsessed queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here, reporting live from…drumroll…FAREHAM! That's right, this fabulously fashionable diva is taking her show on the road and, for this trip, I'm embracing the classic travel mode – the trusty train! Honestly, there's something so romantic and adventurous about settling into a comfy carriage, watching the world whizz by, and daydreaming about all the amazing outfits I can wear in my next performance.
Now, you know me, my darlings. This journey wouldn't be complete without a spectacularly pink and perfectly preened ensemble. Think sunshine yellow silk blouse, cinched at the waist with a hot pink satin belt (I know, the colour clash? Iconic!), a cascading cloud of pink tulle, and those oh-so-fabulous sequined pumps! My signature sparkly headband with a matching pink feather boa adds just the right touch of whimsy – I mean, why be subtle when you can be a dazzling beacon of pink-tastic joy, right?
I can already hear you saying, "But Alex, why Fareham? Why now?" Well, darlings, let me tell you, sometimes the Universe throws you a surprise that’s simply irresistible! You see, while I’m generally known for my glitzy theatre shows and fancy dance competitions, I'm also a huge fan of spreading the tutu love far and wide. So, imagine my delight when I discovered a quirky little craft fair in Fareham that embraced the quirky and the artistic. This fair, darling, wasn't your typical run-of-the-mill craft event! No, this was a celebration of all things unique and delightful, a place where creativity reigned supreme and every booth offered a splash of colour and charm.
I've been thinking a lot about how far the tutu journey has taken me. Remember when I started this whole Pink Tutu Sparkles thing? It all began back in Derbyshire, you know. Science student by day, glittering pink princess by night - not a bad combo! I remember my first time wearing a tutu. It was a charity event, part of the uni's ballet club, and, frankly, it was a revelation! That magical feeling, the swirling tulle, the undeniable sense of playful power – I knew then that the tutu was destined to be more than a simple dance garment. It was going to be a symbol! A symbol of joy, creativity, and pure unadulterated fun!
As you might imagine, my scientist side loves to investigate things, and I got fascinated by fabrics! Studying different fabrics, their textures, colours, it's a true treat for all the senses. That's why my lab work is more than just testing – it's a quest for the perfect tutu fabrics, always on the lookout for that perfect blend of softness, sparkle, and, of course, a magnificent, vibrant shade of pink! After all, a pink tutu without the right pink? Well, that's like a tea party without cake - it’s simply unthinkable!
This craft fair, it just seemed meant to be. With a chance to show off my amazing, pink-infused creativity to a whole new audience, I couldn’t resist. This fair was more than a performance. It was a chance to spark a conversation, to share the joy of being unapologetically yourself and inspire others to embrace their unique colours, their quirky passions.
So, as I stepped off the train in Fareham, feeling the breeze ruffle my tulle, I couldn’t help but feel a wave of excitement. The pink tutus were packed, my lipstick was freshly applied, and my heart was bursting with anticipation for all the magical encounters and unforgettable moments that lay ahead.
You know I'll be filling you in on all the adventures, the giggles, and the glitter in the coming posts, so make sure you check back regularly! Until then, darlings, stay radiant and remember, life is much better with a touch of pink, a swirl of tulle, and a sprinkle of sparkle!
Hugs and pink kisses, Pink Tutu Sparkles xoxo
Behind the TutuYou’re probably thinking, “That Alex, she's got the best job in the world – being a drag queen and a scientist. What’s the secret?"
The secret, my dears, is a lot of work, but a whole lot of fun too! It's not always about glitz and glam. Sometimes it’s about staying focused, working through a difficult performance, dealing with that late night when the machine won’t cooperate and you have to work on a deadline! But I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Being a drag artist means constantly pushing yourself creatively, embracing new ideas, and finding new ways to inspire those around you. It’s a whirlwind of costume design, hair styling, makeup magic, and performance. The fun doesn’t stop with the curtain closing, because my creative journey carries over to my work in the lab! And that work in the lab helps my work in drag, because, as you know, every aspect of my craft has to look amazing and stand up to scrutiny – so those scientific skills, the critical thinking and attention to detail are truly invaluable!
Every day brings a fresh challenge and a new opportunity to embrace a pink tutu perspective. It’s a wonderful, wonderful, world out there, my dears, and I can’t wait to explore it all – with a touch of glitter, a dash of sass, and of course, a full-fledged pink tutu!
Adventures in Tutu – A Week in the Life of Pink Tutu SparklesBut how do I make it all work? Let's go back a week and dive into my hectic but fabulous life.
Monday:
7:00 AM: The alarm rings. This isn’t your standard gym routine! It’s a mad dash to get into my scientist outfit and hit the lab by 8:00 sharp! I am working on some truly amazing fabrics, testing out new mixes that will make those tutu creations sparkle even brighter. I always say, good fabrics are the backbone of any successful Pink Tutu Sparkles outfit!
5:30 PM: After a quick sandwich and some seriously potent coffee, I transform into Pink Tutu Sparkles. Time for my makeup transformation! (Pro-tip: Start with a solid foundation and then you can add your creative flare, from a shimmery pink eye shadow to the boldest crimson lip colour)
6:30 PM: I head over to my first show – a pub gig. It's always so exciting, meeting new people, chatting with the regulars, sharing my joy for a pink-tastic evening! I always leave feeling energized and ready to hit the stage!
10:30 PM: Back at home, finally! Quick face wash and a deep conditioning mask (this queen's hair always needs to look fabulous), then, bedtime.
Tuesday:
8:00 AM: Time for science. I get to focus on the new synthetic fabrics – a fascinating mix of high-tech science and sheer sparkle! I'm testing the flexibility of a new type of tulle. Perfect for some of my dream tutu designs, I tell you!
12:30 PM: Lunch is quick, as usual. Then it’s on to the fabric dye research – that’s my passion! My goal: To find the most vibrant, most spectacularly pink hues, shades so perfect they’d leave you speechless. (No, I’m not kidding.)
5:00 PM: Science, science, science. Gotta keep that mind working! (It's really important, even if it means skipping the shop on my lunch break)
7:00 PM: Time for a well-deserved break! Dinner is on me tonight, and I'm ordering that gourmet burger I've been dreaming about.
8:30 PM: Let’s get ready to dance! I have a ballet class to attend. Nothing better than those warm-ups and stretching and some serious pliés, right? It keeps my body limber and allows me to get that perfect flow for those tutu moments!
Wednesday:
8:00 AM: Another day at the lab. But it’s not a normal day, it's… FABRIC TESTING DAY! (Get excited) Today, I get to experiment with a new fabric I've been dreaming up for a special new creation. A little secret, I am planning on designing a dazzling, double-layered pink tutu with extra long streamers, perfect for those sweeping dance moves, I have a feeling the ballet world is about to be blown away.
5:30 PM: Straight from the lab to the gym. Time for a quick cardio session! Keeping fit and healthy means that even a five-foot-five drag queen can work up a serious sweat, believe me.
7:00 PM: I head to the town square where I'll be hosting a pink tutu flash mob! This isn’t about serious performance or a big show. This is about spreading that joyful vibe, and making the town come alive! So much fun, getting those unsuspecting shoppers all excited to move and groove to a sprinkle of tutu magic!
11:00 PM: Time to unwind, chill with a good book and a cup of tea before heading to bed.
Thursday:
9:00 AM: This morning it's a bit of a "Tutu-morphosis." Time to whip out the sewing machine and give it a go. I have this idea for a special new tutu for the upcoming event in Fareham, it’s going to be absolutely divine! Imagine a delicate pink tulle, a cascading cloud, layered with silver sequins… that sparkle just makes my heart sing!
2:00 PM: Time for a quick visit to the fabric shop – it's like candy for my creative soul. They have this stunning shade of pale pink, just waiting to be turned into a magical pink masterpiece! It’s an essential step in creating the perfect pink tutu creation, that’s why I never miss out on the shops that can add those important touches of sparkle!
6:30 PM: Back to the lab for a couple of hours of intensive fabric research. The team is working on something super special – a brand-new kind of sparkly material – you heard it here first, it will take those dazzling creations to a whole new level!
10:00 PM: It's finally time to switch off, slip into my pajamas, and relax for a little while before turning off the lights and drifting off to sleep.
Friday:
10:00 AM: Today it's all about that new tutu creation. A lot of measuring, pinning, and creating, and let me tell you, creating a perfect, stunning piece, it takes a LOT of dedication, especially if you're going for those intricate designs! I've even got this amazing new technique I’m experimenting with, just wait, I’m not revealing the secrets just yet, but I promise it will be worth the wait!
2:00 PM: A well-deserved afternoon off for this fashionista! First up – a trip to the beauty salon! The perfect look for tonight’s show is my top priority. (I have to be the fairest, brightest diva, don't you know)
7:00 PM: Tonight is the night! I'm hosting my biggest gig yet – an all-night extravaganza of performance, singing, and of course, plenty of dazzling dance routines! And I have something super special planned! A massive, surprise guest – a world-renowned ballet dancer, someone who has dedicated their life to the beauty of the art of ballet, (but guess who she'll be performing in?) You guessed it! It's a collaboration I’ve been working on for weeks, it’s going to be absolutely sensational, darling!

11:00 PM: I finally leave the venue (so excited to see the reviews!)
Sunday:
9:00 AM: It’s a time for chill – a well-deserved day of rest for this diva. Time to relax in some fluffy pyjamas and sip on a pot of tea – even queens need some serious self-care!
2:00 PM: It’s Sunday so that means… more science! A few hours in the lab, working on some special new prototypes. They are top secret for now – but think sparkles, texture, and possibly a new kind of dye! The potential is huge, my dears!
5:00 PM: I'm off on a little journey, getting out into the open air with a trip to a nearby countryside spot to recharge and soak up the views.
6:00 PM: A leisurely walk around the local markets is a treat for the soul. All the yummy smells from the street food stalls, the vibrant colours and handcrafted wares, and yes, I might have picked up a few sparkly embellishments for a brand new tutu idea – one can never have too many sparkles!
8:00 PM: Back home for some serious downtime. This queen needs to catch up on sleep and a bit of dreaming.
So there you have it – a week in the life of a pink tutu princess and scientist extraordinaire! Don’t worry, I will have more about Fareham and the craft fair in a later blog post – but for now, remember, life is always better when there’s a bit of sparkle, a dash of sass, and a good, old-fashioned dose of pink tutus, right?
