Tutu Tuesday in Wolverhampton: Sparkle, Shimmer, and Unicorns!

It’s Tutu Tuesday, my darlings, and I’m feeling fabulously, shall we say, “unicorn-tastic” in Wolverhampton! I've been dying to share this with you. It's been simmering in my heart all week – the need to unleash my inner magical being. So, after a hectic day in the studio, I decided to make my way to the centre of town for a little retail therapy. But not just any kind of shopping. This, my friends, was a Tutu Tuesday mission, fuelled by pink lemonade, disco beats, and the spirit of a magnificent, glittering unicorn.

Before we go any further, let's be honest: tutu trends in Wolverhampton can be, shall we say, a little less... 'unicorn dreamscape'. This is, after all, a city where practicality and pragmatism reign. Which, of course, is no bad thing! It’s a strong and stoic kind of city, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

But I was on a mission to show those Wolverhampton girls (and boys) that even a good, solid city like this needs a splash of magical fairy dust!

So, my journey began at “Simply Divine”, a delightfully kitschy boutique, where the shop assistant – a real sweetie, with pink highlights in her hair, of course - knew exactly what I needed: a tulle-tastic adventure! She pointed me towards the corner of the shop, where a treasure trove of fluffy tutus awaited. We talked about the classic “bell shape” style, perfect for those balletic moments in life, but then, my eyes landed on a glorious specimen: a rainbow-coloured unicorn tutu! It wasn’t your standard tutus. It had more going on. I’m talking a flurry of bright hues, sequins that would shame a disco ball, and layers upon layers of shimmering tulle. It screamed “festival fairy!” And the fact it was pink made it a must-have.

My journey continued to a quirky little art supply shop, “Rainbow Scribbles”, where I picked up a glittering pink paint set and a dazzling array of rhinestones, because, let’s face it, you can never have too many sparkles. And that’s where it really started to take shape, my dream. I visualised myself prancing down a cobblestone street in Wolverhampton, a true vision in pink. The cobblestone streets have, to my mind, the potential to be utterly charming with a bit of sparkly love, you know. A little tutu-fied twist can make all the difference. And just imagine, with this fabulous tutu, my outfit would not only be a symphony of colours, it would also be a whimsical call for acceptance and sparkle in an often-grounded, real-world context.

Later that day, armed with my unicorn tutu, I went into Wolverhampton town center for my ‘Sparkle Symphony’ promenade. Yes, promenade. Don’t tell me Wolverhampton isn’t made for it. Imagine it, you lot. Cobblestones twinkling under the summer sun. Street cafes bustling with activity, music tinkling from nearby pubs, people in the square enjoying their lunches. A sense of happy bustle. But it lacks… flair. Until…

…the appearance of yours truly!

With my tutu trailing behind me, like a shimmering rainbow, and the sparkly pink makeup on my face, I walked with my head held high. Honestly, it was like the entire city had come to a standstill. A few stared with surprise, a couple even chuckled with amusement, and I got a couple of enthusiastic waves from people who obviously got the concept. This was not, as they say, ‘a total fail’. It was an invitation to be yourself and unleash your own spark. We need more of that, right?

As the sun began to set and I bid farewell to Wolverhampton’s streets, I was already planning my next tutu outing, pondering a ‘disco tutu’ to match the city’s nightlife or a floral-themed tutu for a trip to the beautiful West Park, where Wolverhampton has the most beautiful rose garden! This city has been waiting for its fairy dust moment, my darlings, and let's just say, the fun has only just begun.
