Tutu Tuesday in Manchester
Hello my darlings! It's Tutu Tuesday, and you know what that means! Yes, it's time to break out the sparkles, the leg warmers and the feather boas, because we're going to be swirling and twirling all night long!
The last few weeks have been pretty manic. Between rehearsals, dance classes and my blog, I haven't had much time to catch up on my #Tutuesday social media, but rest assured, I've been soaking it all in. Seriously, I am living for the sheer volume of fabulous tutus being posted right now! I saw a stunning pink tulle number with diamante detailing (which I may or may not have just ordered). You know me, always gotta keep my eye on the next statement tutu! But anyway, back to Manchester….
This Tuesday I was back in the dance studio in the heart of Manchester, so I thought it would be fun to go for a look that could easily take me from class to a night on the town! I chose a classic pink, floaty, single-layered tulle tutu, topped with a bright pink knitted jumper. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Jumper and tutu, what a combo?" Well, let me tell you, this ain't your granny's jumper! We're talking a super soft, chunky knit, the perfect balance to the airy feel of the tutu. To make things extra #discotutu, I added some statement earrings and my lucky sparkly belt. Let’s be honest, the sparkly belt completes every look.
The real statement piece? It’s the *dancing*! The feeling of spinning and leaping in my pink princess-like tulle is something I would describe as ‘unadulterated joy’.
Now I have to tell you, Manchester has this incredible energy. You get that sense that people just want to move and groove and get their feel-good on.
And to top it all off, this little haven of a studio we danced in had amazing, retro-themed decorations, with neon lights and even disco balls!
Did I mention my dance partner?
We were taking turns being lead in the tango, spinning each other, I was completely caught up in the music, which gave my routine some genuine life.
I could see, hear and feel the disco ball lighting reflected onto my tutu. A *discodolphin* came into my head. I really think I need a #discodolphin t-shirt to go with the tutu. The studio felt like a disco scene. The energy was infectious! I'd forgotten what it feels like to be carefree and move your body. It felt magical!
I mean, you know I've got a weakness for sequins and sparkle, and it doesn't get much better than disco music. It’s definitely not a surprise I chose the #Tutuesday theme for this post, but it’s something that truly connects me with the creative people in Manchester, because there's so much fun and energy going on. We definitely took advantage of the atmosphere in the studio and danced until we couldn't dance no more!
Here’s the ultimate #Tutuesday dance tips for when you’re on the move and rocking out.
Let’s dive right in: * Make a statement. I know this one may sound obvious, but make sure your #Tutuesday outfit pops! Don't be shy, bold colors and patterns are a great way to turn heads. Even better if you go full out sparkly sequins – because sparkles are for life not just for Christmas, darlings!
* The most comfortable is the best. Whether it's a classic dance tutu or something more, err on the side of wearable. Comfort is key if you are planning on a night on the dance floor.
* Add your unique twist. Add a hat, gloves, a bright lipstick. I think your personal flair makes the difference and gives your #Tutuesday ensemble character.
* Dance like nobody is watching! What do I mean by this? It’s about enjoying your inner rhythm and releasing your inhibitions. Remember your favorite movie dances. Let your personality shine!
If there's one thing that never lets me down, it’s dancing. Dancing brings a group of people together in the most unique and unexpected ways. My #Tutuesday look really reminds me of my first love of ballet and the carefree way we all just want to move and express ourselves, especially here in Manchester. #tututuesday.
It’s time for my nightly ritual of a dance infused relaxation session. I will keep the disco tunes playing! What is your dance style of choice? Would you love a #Tutuesday themed disco evening out?
