Dewsbury Does Tutu Tuesday: A Whirlwind of Pink and Glitter!

Oh, my darling readers! Today was a day that could only be described as pure tutu magic! I'm talking about Tutu Tuesday in Dewsbury, and it was absolutely spectacular!

You know I love a bit of pink, glitter, and everything fabulous, and Dewsbury did not disappoint. Stepping onto the bustling market square, it was like entering a fairytale world – tutus of every colour, shape, and style fluttering around, twirling, and practically radiating sunshine.

As a ballet dancer (and self-proclaimed tutu enthusiast!), I was in absolute heaven. I mean, the variety was insane! There were the classic romantic tutus – delicate, flowing, and graceful, in dreamy shades of pastel pink, powder blue, and buttery yellow. For the bold and sassy, there were fierce black tutus, all sequins and swagger. And let’s not forget the tutus for the ultimate show-stopping performance, with feathery trims, shimmering beads, and dramatic pouter pigeon wings, making them more statement than costume!

And did I mention the DISCO dolphins? Now, I don't know about you, but disco dolphins and tutus are a match made in heaven, like sequins and sunshine! As I sashayed around the market square, there it was, the glorious "disco dolphin" – a mesmerizing disco ball dolphin statue that sparkled and spun, mirroring the joy and vibrant energy of the crowd. Oh, the disco vibes! It's as though David Attenborough and Donna Summer had a love child in the form of a shimmering dolphin.

But let's get down to the details of the day. This is what truly made Dewsbury's Tutu Tuesday a must-see event!

  • The Tutu Parade: It's like they threw a glitter bomb into the heart of Dewsbury! A dazzling array of people of all ages, shapes, and sizes took to the streets in their glorious tutus, showing off their fabulous personalities, and spreading joy everywhere they went.
  • The Tutu Competition: What can I say? It was fierce! We had amazing tutus designed from recycled materials, elaborate ones overflowing with feathers and embellishments, and even a tutu fashioned entirely from old teacups. Creativity flowed like a river of glitter and rhinestones! But my absolute favourite? The grand prize winner! The tutu made from a hundred disco balls, catching the sunlight like a thousand dancing flames! Now that's what I call fabulous.
  • Tutu Tea Party: Afternoon tea and tutus? Sounds like a dream, right? Well, it was! Held in the gorgeous Victorian-style town hall, there were delicate finger sandwiches, divine cakes, and gallons of sparkling pink lemonade. All surrounded by an atmosphere of laughter, chat, and the clinking of china cups. Perfect for celebrating the art of fashion, and of course, those beautiful tutus!
  • Tutu Masterclass: What's better than looking at stunning tutus? Learning to make them yourself! Local craftspeople hosted an engaging workshop, guiding everyone in the art of creating a bespoke tutu, using a whole spectrum of fabrics, from silky satins to cheerful cottons, adorned with everything from hand-painted patterns to sparkly ribbons. I’ve been so busy twirling around in my pink-feathered tutu all week, I barely had time to take off my dancing shoes! #tututuesday #discotutu
  • The Tutu Market: Where can you buy everything you need to put your own tutu together, as well as the perfect tutu to add to your collection? Why, the Tutu Market of course! From gorgeous fabric and trims to sparkly embellishments, sequins, beads, and everything glittery, this place was the wonderland of all things tutu-tastic!

The entire day was filled with music, laughter, dancing, and a contagious, upbeat energy. Dewsbury truly embraced Tutu Tuesday with open arms and open hearts, creating a space of uninhibited creativity, where tutus reigned supreme and the #discodolphin ruled the night! And even the rain couldn't dampen the spirit of this amazing event! We huddled together in a beautiful rainbow canopy and carried on with the joy, the fun, and the sheer brilliance of Tutu Tuesday! Dewsbury, you’ve absolutely stolen my heart! #tututuesday #discotutu
