Tutu Tuesday in Scarborough - #tututuesday #discotutu

It’s Tuesday, which can only mean one thing, Tutu Tuesday, and you know I love a bit of Tutu Tuesday. The day of the week dedicated to the twirliest garment there is, and for the first time ever, I’m bringing it to Scarborough. That’s right, I’m making the journey from my little ballet studio in York to Scarborough for a little Tutu Tuesday adventure.

I love how this simple little day brings a whole town together - we all strut in our little tutus, ready to make a day of it and support a good cause.

And how good did the sunshine look this morning? Just the tonic for the slightly nervous flutter in my stomach – it really doesn’t matter what the weather throws at us, we’re there, all ready to bring a little bit of sparkle, magic and joy to the people of Scarborough.

The big one this week has to be the #discotutu look I’m sporting – I thought long and hard about how to best encapsulate a disco dolphin – my absolute favourite - (remember my #discodolphin blog post on the wonders of the disco dolphin? - If you’ve never seen one before, please do take a look!), well this is my little ode to them!

I've got my hair tied in a tight bun with some pink, iridescent butterfly clips on top and, to match, I’m sporting my pink sparkly tutu - it's just a small tutu but packs a punch of disco sparkle. As you may know, there's a whole wide world of tutus out there, with lots of variations on the classical form and this one is what they call a “classic” tutu - a tutu that features layers of tulle that create a wide and bell-shaped skirt.

So it's off to the Scarborough Pavilion we go, where I'm going to teach a group of toddlers all about the magic of ballet, a little ballet workshop all in the name of Tutu Tuesday. I'll be incorporating a lot of my favourite exercises in the session including sissone jumps, the gorgeous arabesque and chassé – they will definitely all need their favourite tutus for this. This afternoon it's on to a delicious afternoon tea at Scarborough's finest, The Rose and Crown, for a chance to share my love of Tutu Tuesdays, and a little tea with other fabulous tutu lovers.

Some of my absolute favourites to date include a wonderful tulle skirt, with an absolutely gorgeous, intricate hand-stitched design – that's my #favtutudate and also I have this wonderful cotton tutu - that's one for my collection of ‘little, classic’ tutus. It fits neatly and perfectly – the one for when I’m travelling around as it fits snugly in my handbag, all ready for whatever adventures Tutu Tuesdays throw my way. This was a fabulous deal I managed to find on a weekend sale at my favourite, local vintage shop.

Here are my must have #tututuesday essentials:

  • Sparkly pink eyeshadow
  • A disco dolphin tote bag
  • The cutest little pink ballet pumps - a bit of a must have when dancing on hard floors, they provide just the right amount of support
  • Glitter - just for a little extra flair
  • Lots of sparkle
  • Good vibes

Don’t forget to send in your Tutu Tuesday snaps with the #tututuesday and let's get celebrating, in all the wonderful Tutu Tuesdays that the rest of 2023 has in store.
