Tutu Tuesday in Caerphilly: A Day of Disco and Dolphins
It's Tuesday, which means it's #Tututuesday! And what better way to celebrate than with a little trip to Caerphilly, the town famous for its cheese (and now, its Tutu Tuesday celebrations). The vibrant energy was practically tangible, swirling around me like a perfect pirouette.
Let me tell you, the scene was straight outta Studio 54 (but without the disco ball – thank goodness for my glitter eyeshadow, though!). Caerphilly Town Square was overflowing with tulle and sequins – imagine a shimmering sea of pink, blush, lavender, and turquoise!
There were tutus of all shapes and sizes. From the classic ‘romantic tutu’, with its cloud-like layers, to the sleek, sophisticated ‘ballet tutu’ in its purest form. But honestly, who needs classic when you have tutus adorned with shimmering feathers, sequin-laden fringes, and even an abundance of pink pompoms? Let's be real – it’s #Tututuesday and anything goes, and honestly, the bolder, the better.
One thing I did spot that I haven’t seen before? A whole posse of ladies sporting the "disco dolphin" #discodolphin tutus – imagine sequins with an embroidered dolphin leaping from the centre, and yes, they were totally rocking it!
The day wasn't just about looking fab. We had some amazing activities planned. Firstly, the 'Tutu Twirl Competition', a joyous mix of grace, hilarity and, of course, loads of twirling – we even had a mini 'disco-themed' workshop, which inspired some of the best impromptu choreographed moves, all happening right there in the square. We were shimmying, swaying, and snapping our fingers, all the while surrounded by tutu-clad beauties.
Then there was the ‘Tutu Swap Shop’, where you could find a bargain, exchange, or donate a tutu to someone else. The idea of recycling and sustainability? Genius!
It was absolutely buzzing with excitement. There was something about everyone, from children sporting handmade tutus adorned with plastic flowers (seriously, they were so adorable, they should win the ‘most charming tutu’ award!) to grandmothers showing off their impressive twirling abilities in their glamorous vintage tutus. Honestly, everyone just embraced the fun, the colour, the freedom of expression.
Here are a few of my favourite #tututuesday moments:
- Seeing a group of four friends rocking matching pastel pink tutus – pure magic!
- Witnessing a family attempting a synchronized "ballet freeze" moment. So adorable, and their timing was impeccable.
- Hearing a group of teenage girls bust out an impromptu '80s disco dance routine in front of the Caerphilly Castle. Honestly, that view made it even better.
By the end of the day, I had discovered a few key #tututuesday tips to keep in mind, that I’d love to share:
- Invest in a good-quality tutu. You can never go wrong with a timeless classic in tulle or a bright vibrant color that stands out in the crowd.
- Embrace the creativity! You can add your own personal flair, adding sparkly embellishments, or fun little motifs, like feathers or fringe! It really gives your outfit a touch of individuality.
- Have fun and be comfortable! No matter your age, background, or dance experience, the main thing is to relax, embrace the freedom of expression and enjoy the day!
As the sun began to set, the final act of Tutu Tuesday took place, and it was truly a show-stopper! An enormous screen displayed a compilation of photographs from the day. Seeing everyone so joyful and expressive, dressed in their fabulous tutus, made me truly realize how magical #Tututuesday is. It's not just about a dress – it's about freedom, self-expression, and celebrating the unique beauty of each individual.
It seems I'll be making this annual pilgrimage to Caerphilly! If you're looking for a day filled with fun, laughter, and a whole lot of twirling, I suggest you mark your calendars for the next #Tututuesday in Caerphilly! It truly is a one-of-a-kind event.
See you next time!
