Leighton Buzzard’s Tutu Tuesday: A Dance of Delight

Oh my darlings, what a glorious Tuesday we’ve had! The air was buzzing with anticipation and a sprinkle of glitter as Leighton Buzzard embraced its inner ballerina with Tutu Tuesday. And you know I simply *had* to be there. Pink tulle and shimmering sequins? Sign me up! I’ve been dreaming of Tutu Tuesday ever since I heard about it – imagine a whole day dedicated to tutus! It’s every ballet dancer’s dream come true, especially when you’re as obsessed with twirling and a bit of sparkle as me!

The streets were alive with a delightful energy, and it seemed everyone in town was feeling the magic. There were so many different kinds of tutus – I swear, I saw more variations than I’ve seen steps in my entire life! We had classic, billowing tutus in that soft, dreamy pastel pink that always makes me feel like a princess, the vibrant, daringly bold colours of hot pink, neon pink and coral (pink, duh!). For a little extra oomph, some had dazzling sequined patterns while others were decked out in layers of tulle. But for a true statement look, there were even some fabulous tutu skirts, perfect for those who love the tutu spirit but want a more day-to-day kind of style. And you know, I can’t tell you how much I love those! #Tutuesday - every day could be a Tutu Tuesday if it was up to me, but as it stands, one day a month is a brilliant start.

This town definitely knows how to celebrate, though. Every single person who dared to twirl a tutu added their own flavour. Kids were sporting adorable tiny tutus while dappers and the older folks even had a crack at rocking the look! From the tiny tot taking her first, oh so careful, twirl in a frilly pink, to the elegant lady waltzing through the park in her custom made purple masterpiece, the scene was filled with joyful chaos that radiated such happiness and positivity – and the glitter certainly helped!

There was no shortage of dancing either. We had ballet classes with kids, the elderly and everything in between, all having the best time. There was some street dance happening, the odd jazz class (some serious skills happening there!) and one group even got all the bystanders involved in a little line dance, so of course I took a shot of that. There were a couple of street performers and even a flash mob on the main square – the town square truly was the centre of it all – all orchestrated in tutus of course. My highlight had to be a trio who all had some really amazing street dance skills. There’s something just magic about seeing so many talented people giving it their all and bringing joy to the community!

My top tips? Well, it wouldn't be a Tuesday with a Tutu in the air if it wasn’t about bringing out your best. Don't be afraid to be daring with colours and embellishments! Think neon pink, a touch of sequins and even a little feather trim to get that ultimate whimsical feel! I mean, there is absolutely no rule that a tutu has to be all girly - even the boys can hop in and bring on the colour and the sparkle! Think fun patterns and even some metallic highlights and bring on the dance.

We have to talk about the real highlight, the one thing that brought us all together – the legendary **#DiscoDolphin**. Imagine a full size dolphin with a fabulous disco ball that can, get this, *actually dance*. It moved, it twirled and yes, it even shook its hips to the most gloriously 70s soundtrack - I kid you not. There was enough glitter and glam for every single tutu to envy. Even I couldn't resist joining the Disco Dolphin and getting my groove on! It was absolutely fantastic. I swear I caught a little shimmying and head bopping from everyone passing by – the Disco Dolphin truly was the life of the party. You’d have thought it was David Cassidy dancing his way down the high street and, ok, I’ll admit I maybe squealed a bit! The ultimate icon of this magical Tutu Tuesday. It might be the most magical creature in all of Leighton Buzzard!

For a whole town to come together to celebrate in such a fun, fabulous, creative way, well, it’s just beautiful. A sprinkle of sequins and some dance steps. There is nothing better for my mood. For all of you in other towns and cities, I hope you have a #Tutuesday of your own one day – I promise it’ll be the happiest and most magical event you ever go to! So, take your inspirations from the fantastic, unique people of Leighton Buzzard and be sure to share the magic! #Tutuesday

Five essential things to consider for a Tutu Tuesday of your own!

  • Pick a Theme: Do you want it all about pink, neon, or classic tutus? Fancy dressing up your own Disco Dolphin for a dance party? Maybe have a costume theme that’s linked to your community! It all works. Just make sure to embrace your inner sparkle!
  • Pick Your Style: Do you fancy a ballet class, jazz dance? Do you want to encourage a little street dance, or maybe everyone just shimmying along together! It's a dance party so get creative!
  • Spread the Word: Share the details about the day, tell everyone to be ready to shine and dance. Maybe do a call-out for best tutu looks!
  • Let's Get Creative: Find a talented street dancer, get some DJs involved or maybe even a fun-loving, local dance teacher who can make this magic happen.
  • Most importantly, get ready to twirl, spin and most importantly have the time of your life. And of course, capture all the happy moments, it's definitely Instagram worthy!

And that's it from me. I'm back in my tutu-themed dance wear. Let’s just say the whole vibe is contagious and I can't stop spinning and thinking up more fabulous events for my home town – it’s all for the love of the art of dance. And maybe a little glitter. So get on out there, you beautiful people! Until next time, lovelies.
