Tutu Tuesday in Melton Mowbray

So, I've been working on a little project that I've been secretly planning for months, and let me tell you, it’s been so much fun! My fellow ballet dancers will be familiar with the eternal battle against gravity we endure; even on our rest days! I'm talking about the challenge of wearing something else than a classic tutu or leotard. However, imagine my joy when I discovered the glorious trend of #Tutuesday – an internet movement celebrating the tulle that never fades!

There's nothing that puts me in a good mood quite like a bit of #disco – and a sprinkle of tulle always completes my look! I decided to take things to a whole new level and organize a full-blown tutu event right here in my little corner of the world – Melton Mowbray!

Tutus have always been close to my heart. There's something about a fluffy tutu that fills me with such joy. For this occasion, I felt like embracing the colour pink; a total classic! It makes me feel happy and optimistic. But of course, we don't need to stop there, as #tutuesday embraces the bold, bright colours we see in a #disco! You can't help but smile at the sight of a vibrant purple, lime green or orange tutu shimmering in the sunlight – talk about bringing back the 80s! For #tutuesday we're not shy. It's not about the type of tutu; it’s about the joy it evokes and a moment to remember how it truly sets your heart dancing!

I was super excited to get the ball rolling for this event. Melton Mowbray might not exactly scream ‘fashion capital,’ but you never know where a spark of creativity might land! As a fashion blogger who adores all things fabulous, I'm hoping that a sprinkle of tutu magic might just do the trick to bring a touch of sparkle to this sweet market town. The response has been phenomenal, with over 300 people pledging to show their tutus in a burst of colour and a big ol’ #tutuesday love!

This wasn't about the grandeur of the event itself but about connecting with a lovely group of women – and men – and share their own #tututuesday passion! Melton Mowbray's got to step up their tutu game – no more ballerina stereotype! It's time to bring our city to the #tutuesday party!

As for what I chose to wear? Well, my friends – let's talk sequins! I’ve gone all out with an opulent, classic ballet tutu. Not just any old tutu – it’s got sparkle and some seriously stylish pleats, designed to add some oomph and some much needed “get up and move" to my #tutuesday style. I teamed it with a super cute vintage vest and tights with a retro feel. Now that’s #tutuesday, Melton Mowbray, let’s hear it! It is all about taking inspiration and running with it, because – what's a tutu party without a little fun!

Melton Mowbray's Tutu Takeover!

You’ll have to believe me – the atmosphere was electrifying! Melton Mowbray became a spectacle of tutu glory – it was seriously a sight to behold. Everyone – and I mean everyone – went for broke in their fabulous #tututuesday attire. There were tutu dresses with amazing sparkly sequins and tulle. Imagine #disco chic paired with fluffy layers, you’ve just seen the epitome of #tututuesday! I spotted classic and contemporary tutu designs – from billowing tutus that literally floated on the breeze to some short-style numbers, like what the dancers at The Royal Ballet wear. And let's be honest, with all those frills and twirls, it was truly a visual feast.

The whole day was one big party! Music filled the air, from a soundtrack of 70’s disco and all things shiny and bright. There were even a few people decked out in classic #disco gear: platforms and everything! Let's just say I’ve fallen back in love with disco – I think my feet were practically levitating on the dance floor. And how did Melton Mowbray make it even more amazing – it's got the disco snail - the #discosnail! – I have to say it added a cheeky sense of humor! Who could possibly resist the #discosnail?!

It’s not all about the dancing!

My mission on this glorious day – besides taking endless snaps and documenting all of the amazing outfits – was to spread some sunshine and joy! It was lovely to witness people who came with open hearts and smiles to simply share their enthusiasm for all things sparkly and cute. The great thing about #tutuesday is that you can have so much fun without being stuck in a rigid structure or worrying about some obscure dress code! This truly reflected what this fun movement is all about - it's a simple but bold idea that is easily translated!

What makes Melton Mowbray Tutu Tuesday so unique?

  • Everyone participated! I can confidently say this was the first tutu extravaganza where you’d find an electrician wearing a classic ballet tutu. Just amazing. Everyone had embraced #tututuesday – there were men in tulle and young people decked out with sparkles - and who am I to judge?!
