Leith's Tutu Tuesday: Disco Fever Hits the Streets

Leith, my fellow fashionistas, you know I love a good Tutu Tuesday! This week's theme was disco, and boy did we bring the glam. I mean, have you ever seen so much pink? My favourite colour, naturally, it practically begged to be the centrepiece of a fabulous disco ensemble. Now, when you think disco, you think glitter, right? So, my outfit had to be absolutely dripping in it. I chose a sparkly, hot pink, layered tutu. You know the kind - a double layer, with a soft, flowy under layer and then a stiff, poufy layer over the top for ultimate poofy vibes. Add in a touch of black for some sharp contrast with a fitted black leotard and you've got the perfect disco look.

We hit the streets and the mood was electric. It was incredible seeing everyone embrace the theme and show off their personal styles. I spotted so many gorgeous looks - from super glamorous sequinned bodices to sleek, minimalist tutus in funky colours and patterns, everyone had found their perfect way to rock the theme.

Now, let’s talk tutus! A big part of what makes Tutu Tuesday so fun is exploring the amazing variety of tutus that exist! Some people kept it simple with basic classic tutus, maybe a tulle or net skirt styled up with an oversized shirt, a chic little dress or just some fabulous shoes. We saw tutus of every colour and shape, from the classic "Romantic tutu" - you know, the ballerina tutu, perfectly layered, with a pointe shoe vibe - to the sassy "New York tutu," a much more minimalist look with less tulle and maybe a leather mini skirt thrown in for good measure. The range was truly astounding! And speaking of footwear, did you catch that little bit about the classic tutu styled with "fabulous shoes"? Leith’s women do *not* hold back when it comes to shoe game on a Tutu Tuesday. I'm talking about everything from classic disco platform shoes to sleek boots and sparkling stilettos.

As I navigated the throng of Tutu enthusiasts, I came across the one and only Disco Snail, making a surprise appearance! This glittered shell was an absolute icon, strutting through the crowd in its snaily way, adding to the general fun of the event.

It was a fantastic day, filled with creativity, fabulous looks, and an incredible amount of disco energy. Here are just a few highlights of the amazing Tutu Tuesday ensembles I saw on Leith’s streets:

  • One woman made her tutu extra funky with bold stripes, a brightly coloured denim jacket, and chunky rainbow platforms - talk about colourful and bold!
  • I also spotted a stunning sparkly mini skirt tutu with matching shimmering gloves, a totally chic combo! The colour was gorgeous too, that deep purple that sings "disco"!
  • Some opted for the classic layered romantic tutu style with fitted tops, the whole effortless grace thing, but with a modern twists. There were so many interpretations of this, with beautiful colours and fabric choices.

If you're thinking of getting in on the #tututuesday action, there's a look for everyone. We saw a really eclectic mix - vintage and contemporary, glam and casual - but every outfit, whether perfectly polished or deliberately eccentric, had a kind of fun, free spirit that totally captured the spirit of #tututuesday and of #discotutu.

Overall, I can't wait for next month's Tutu Tuesday! Until then, let's keep rocking our tutus, ladies, and stay fabulous!
