Hanwell: Tutu Tuesday Brings Disco Fever to the High Street!
It's been a while since Hanwell has seen such a display of fabulousness, but Tutu Tuesday was back with a vengeance and it was pinkalicious! You know what they say, Tuesday's child is full of grace and Hanwell embraced this saying wholeheartedly. It's a bit of a running joke between my ballet pals that Tuesdays are reserved for practicing, but this particular Tuesday was for showing off.
Honestly, it was pure magic. I arrived at the bustling High Street early to scout the scene, already buzzing with anticipation. The first thing I spotted was a sweet little shop called "Sew Pretty" showcasing the most stunning collection of tulle I've ever laid eyes on. I swear the colors were popping! A sea of bright pink and shimmering lilac tutus was on display – the ultimate ode to our beloved dancewear.
From there, the fun just snowballed. The energy on the High Street was infectious, as locals from all walks of life rocked their best disco tutus, each with a unique flair. It was all about "expressing your inner sparkle," a phrase I swear I heard someone shout. The scene had a definite disco vibe, thanks to a DJ who had set up right in front of The Pear Tree Pub, blasting 70's classics all day.
I must say, the Hanwell contingent did a stellar job at channeling those vintage vibes. We saw everything from classic powder pink tutus with billowing tiers, to funky, modern styles that reminded me of "Saturday Night Fever," minus the disco balls (but really, could a disco ball ever be out of place on Tutu Tuesday?) Some folks went full on glam with rhinestones, sequins and feathers, while others kept it more understated with just a simple tutu in a bold color, paired with an oversized tee or vintage bomber jacket – just a dash of playful drama. And we couldn't forget the #Discosnail, a groovy snail painted gold by local artists and strategically positioned for a good selfie opportunity!
While tutus dominated the scene, some embraced a more creative approach to #tututuesday. I saw an incredible display of whimsical headbands adorned with sparkling butterfly wings, feathered boas, and an array of colorful sequined accessories. A few brave souls even showed up sporting fabulous leggings and skirts adorned with tulle panels. The energy was a true testament to the beauty of individuality.
Here’s what you missed if you weren’t in Hanwell:
- The "Tutu Face Off," where residents could showcase their best "disco pose" for a chance to win a gift certificate to "Sew Pretty" (let’s be honest, it was mainly a great photo opportunity, but who can resist free tutus?!).
- "Glitter and Grooves" - a dance lesson hosted in the courtyard of Hanwell Manor by the lovely "Steps & Soul" ballet school, where everyone from toddlers to seasoned ballerinas learned a classic disco move to "Staying Alive."
- The best part? There was an impromptu “flash mob" outside the community center. I am pretty sure it was sparked by a group of teenagers who decided "we can’t have a disco party without a dance!" The rest of the High Street joined in - including a group of grannies who took "staying alive" literally while belting out a fantastic disco-infused rendition of the iconic song, and all in perfectly coordinated tutus. It was truly heartwarming, even if my ears were ringing later from all that joyful yelling and singing.
In conclusion, Hanwell did Tutu Tuesday proud! It was a day to celebrate individuality and embrace a little sparkle, because as we all know, a little glitter never hurt anyone, especially on Tuesday, especially when it's on a tutu!
