Tutu Tuesday in Wood Green: A Disco Dream in Pink
So, darling, the sun is shining (mostly), the birds are singing (if they weren't, we'd tell them to!), and I'm back for another instalment of the Tutu Tuesday saga! It's been a while since I've taken the tube down to Wood Green (gotta love that Northern line!), but I knew I had to be there for today's #tututuesday extravaganza.
You see, the lovely folks at the Wood Green branch of a very well-known chain of bargain stores (who will remain nameless, though you know who I'm talking about!), have been known to stock some **serious** tutu-licious finds. It's not just your usual nylon frocks in beige. We're talking pink, darling, hot pink, vibrant pink, millennial pink, basically any shade of pink you can imagine (except for that nasty, dated bubblegum pink, I don't want to hear about that!), with more embellishments than you can shake a pom-pom at.
My mission today was clear: I wanted to find a tutu that would make me feel like a disco princess straight out of a 70s music video (we're talking ABBA, obviously! Does anyone else think their tutus were EVERYTHING?). I envisioned something with serious sparkle, maybe a little lace, and perhaps even some sequins, for that added touch of glitz. (Think a grown-up version of the Barbie 'I Can Be...' collection, but without the dodgy pink tights). And I was NOT disappointed!
Let me tell you, it was a veritable tutu jungle in that store. Tutus for little girls, tutus for grown-ups, tutus with bows, tutus with frills, and the biggest surprise of the day - tutus with feathers! Feather boas for the tutu, darling, and let's just say that I now own a dazzling, multi-coloured tutu with feathers so magnificent that even Donna Summer would have been impressed.
To keep the disco dream alive, I decided to wear my tutu with a glittery crop top and a pair of high-top trainers (gotta stay comfy, my darling). I wasn't exactly dancing like Travolta on the tube, but it's definitely got me feeling inspired to do a spin (or five!) in my flat.
And that's where the magic truly happens: in your own home, with a little bit of music (I'm thinking classic disco anthems - *Stayin' Alive*, anyone?), and a whole lotta confidence. That's the real beauty of the #tututuesday movement. It's about letting loose, having fun, and embracing your inner ballerina (or disco queen, or both, because you can totally be both, you know!), no matter what your shape, size or age.
