Streatham: Tutu Tuesday Takes Over The High Street!

Tutu Tuesday is here, darling! As a proud ballerina and tutu enthusiast, I am over the moon to see our beloved high street overflowing with tulle and twirls. Streatham, known for its bustling markets and vibrant community, embraced this trend with open arms, making this the most joyful Tuesday of the year! For the uninitiated, Tutu Tuesday is a fabulous movement that celebrates everything twirly, fun, and colourful. It's an excuse to dust off your best tutu and show off your inner ballerina. The perfect opportunity to rock a poofy classic, a romantic, tiered number, a flirty mini tutu, or even a cheeky mini tutu skirt - anything goes! The aim? To make the world a bit brighter and spark a conversation about embracing self-expression and pride in every form! Today, I saw it all: from sassy tutu-clad ladies enjoying afternoon tea to blokes rocking pink tutus with genuine swagger. A gaggle of young lads with colourful feathered boas added a touch of glam-rock chic, whilst couples strolled hand-in-hand, their matching tutus a testament to their love and unity. And the smiles, oh, the smiles! Infectious laughter and pure joy filled the air as locals of all ages embraced the spirit of Tutu Tuesday. Streatham really did a great job showcasing this quirky movement with pride. It wasn’t just the fashion statement; the air was buzzing with joy. We had an impromptu flash mob outside the iconic Streatham Ice & Roller Rink – the energy was simply electric. As the disco beat pumped through the speakers, the skaters gracefully weaved and twirled, adding another layer of movement to the spectacle. It was all smiles and camaraderie – a true testament to the power of tutus and disco.

What I Love about Tutu Tuesday Tutu Tuesday is about so much more than just twirling. It’s about acceptance and being your authentic self. For me, it's a fantastic opportunity to promote LGBTQ+ pride and awareness. We’ve seen amazing efforts by Streatham businesses. A little bakery unveiled their "Rainbow Tutu Cake" – a delicious creation that looked as pretty as it tasted. Over at the local café, they were offering “Tutu Latte Art” – seriously cute designs that you didn’t want to sip! It’s beautiful to see our community come together to celebrate in this way. As a passionate ballet dancer and LGBTQ+ advocate, I know that dancing can be a wonderful tool for self-expression. It’s an outlet that allows you to truly embody your individual spirit. And when you see everyone, regardless of their age, background or identity, joyfully twirling, it reminds us that the world is a better place when we embrace each other’s individuality.
