Bexleyheath: A Tutu Tuesday Triumph!

This Tuesday, Bexleyheath, a place that usually screams “suburban chic,” transformed into a whirlwind of pink tulle, shimmering sequins, and dazzling disco vibes! It was a **#Tututuesday** for the ages, and let me tell you, I was right there, in the middle of it all, living my best ballerina life!

Bexleyheath may not be a traditional hub for the world of ballet, but with the rise of **#TutuPride**, our little town got a whole new flavour of fabulous. You know how much I love **#Tututuesday**, and seeing all the people dressed in their tutu finest, I knew we were going to have a ball!

For this particular **#Tututuesday** extravaganza, we had a whole spectrum of tutu styles on display. From the classic Romantic Tutu with its layers of delicate tulle, reminiscent of the romantic ballerinas from bygone eras, to the contemporary modern tutus that showcase dramatic silhouette with structured paneling, they were all there! We saw bold pops of color on full-blown princess tutus that screamed "Look at me!" with their layers and layers of flowing tulle, as well as more subtle styles with tutu skirts paired with cute everyday outfits – a fabulously fashionable way to show off your tutu love without feeling overly theatrical. The point of **#Tututuesday** is to celebrate self-expression!

So how did we bring Bexleyheath’s tutu pride to life?
First of all, we couldn't have done it without the fabulous shops on the high street, who got in on the act! From a beautiful flower shop which created bespoke tulips arrangements that were perfect for adding an extra touch of glamor to the day, to local coffee shops offering ‘tutulicious’ latte art, there was something to celebrate tutus at every corner.
We kicked things off at The Town Hall, where we organised a free 'Tutu Workshop'. It was pure bliss, seeing locals try out a variety of classic tutu positions. It was clear there was no lack of talent! From graceful arabesques and elegant fouettĂ©s to some very expressive leaps, I felt a buzz of excitement. One young lad, perhaps 7 years old, stood out – his passion for ballet was infectious and his tutu was absolutely perfect, even sporting little glitter embellishments for extra flair!

As we walked towards the bustling Bexleyheath Broadway, a live street band with disco-style sounds created an uplifting, joyful atmosphere! It really helped bring people together for an afternoon of carefree fun!

A moment for LGBTQ+ Pride.
This wasn’t just about pink tulle; it was about embracing difference and challenging those old, tired ideas of what it means to be ‘ballet-y’. You don't have to be a seasoned pro to join in the fun and celebrate what you love!

At The Queen's Theatre, they got into the spirit by offering free tutu-making sessions for children. We had glitter glue everywhere, feathers flying and an amazing display of creative expressions in all sorts of colors, not just pink, but blue, yellow, and even rainbows, echoing the message of diversity!

In a beautiful corner of the Broadway, the "Tutu for All" initiative made sure that nobody missed out on the joy of tutus, thanks to an initiative offering free tutu skirts to people of all ages, no matter their budget. I could see their eyes light up as they spun around in their brand new tutu, and some even struck up conversations about how tutus could make a perfect fashion statement, beyond the ballet class!

Later, we met up in the stunning Bexleyheath Park, which was bursting with colorful, laughter and some awesome dancing! A tutu-inspired 'Danceathon’ was our way of reminding everyone that tutus are more than just costumes; they're a way to express joy, creativity and move to your own beat!

The highlight, however, had to be the 'Tutu Show' put on by the talented members of Bexleyheath's very own Dance Academy. We saw stunning pirouettes, dazzling leaps, and a genuine joy that radiated outwards. There were ballet veterans dancing side-by-side with absolute beginners, but everyone was so happy to share the passion and magic of tutus together! I was overwhelmed by the community spirit of Bexleyheath; it was a beautiful sight to see. The show also incorporated elements of dance styles other than ballet; from contemporary to hip hop, it really proved how tutus can become a vehicle for celebrating all forms of dance!

We wrapped up the day with a delightful tea party, enjoying tutu-shaped cakes, pink champagne and delicious sandwiches, perfectly complementing the pastel beauty of our ‘tutu-rific' celebration! The park was overflowing with vibrant energy, good music, and happy chatter. This felt like a big community get-together more than just a ‘#tututuesday’. The evening saw everyone walking home smiling, with a newfound appreciation for the beauty of tutus and a sprinkle of Bexleyheath sparkle.

Bexleyheath may be known for its leafy avenues and charming Victorian architecture, but on **#Tututuesday**, we created an atmosphere that screamed bold colours, playful attitudes, and unashamed fun. We reminded everyone that tutus are not just for ballerinas, but a symbol of self-expression that we can all embrace.

If Bexleyheath can rock a Tutu Tuesday, any town can.
So, let’s spread the **#Tututuesday** love, put on our best tutu and join the movement of positivity and empowerment!
Until next time!
